You go girl I was taught by my mom as well at a very young age how to make collards and man did my mama know how to make a mean pot of greens, fork tender and delicious, yea boy. Ms Mattie you remind me of my mom showing me when I was younger how to cook, I Miss my mom she is home with the lord now. R I p mom thanks for teaching me everything I know about cooking.
She has a beautiful kitchen, she’s a beautiful lady I would definitely try my best to cook some of her recipes, even tho I can’t cook this good, but I can follow instructions 🤤
Hi Ms. Mattie. I did my turkey your way this year with the apple inside. When I tried to take it out of my pan to carve it, it fell apart in my hands. It was the absolute best turkey that I ever tasted. Everyone loved it. Thanks so much.
Hi Mrs. Hattie. Looks delicious! When you said you only used Land O'Lakes Buttter, I started smiling because that it the only brand of butter that my Granny used. At age 94, she went to be with the Lord. I will always remember the times we shared in her kitchen!!!
I used this cooks' turkey recipe last year AND LET ME TELL YOU, my turkey fell apart & was super juicy inside!!! The apple/celery and butter worked perfectly! I'm using this method again this year! Thank you sweet lady for giving life to our Thanksgiving Dinner! ❤️🌹❤️🌹
From West Virginia... my Mother, aunts and uncles always ate cornbread and buttermilk.... we were country too... Oh Miss Mattie I love this video and love watching you.
My husband has been using Gordon Ramsey's turkey recipe for the past 2 years. I found your video last week and so glad I did. We had our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday and made it your way. Wow!!! Our turkey was delicious! Thank you very much for sharing the recipe ♥️
I really enjoyed watching this video. You cook everything differently than my grandma does but somehow the ingredients and the end result looks the same. Thank God for black grandmas !
Your preparations remind me of watching my mom in the kitchen. . . I just love it! She transitioned 6 YRs ago--2 months after I turned 50. I moved from CHGO to ATL when I was 26, to live in my husband's home state. Mmmm, I can't describe enough of the love & protection my parents provided our family. I'm a white girl raised in the south and this is exactly the way I was taught to cook everybody always ask me was I raised by black folk... every Thanksgiving we would get together and cook and my papa had to have his special chitlins and my granny would run him out the house and make him cook them "Stanky thangs" outside...we would get the water hose and clean them... I never did like chitlins but the way my papa cooked them they were good....LOL love yall

Thank you Ms. Mattie! I haven't baked a turkey in the oven in many years (been using a turkey fryer), but i did it your way and it was fantastic!! I love when you said, "Turkey so pretty but don't taste like nothing". You are sooo right. God bless you and your family!!
I thank u so much...my mom died from covid-19 in March and this will be my first year EVER trying to cook Thanksgiving dinner for me and my daughter. I love this video I feel I will do a excellent job. Just need to work on my gravy now❤💯🎯💗
Oh My Gosh Mattie... I have been searching youtube all evening to find you and this video. I saw this video a couple of years ago and the turkey is delicious. I thought I had saved it... but it was gone. Thank you God for helping me find it again. Be Blessed.
This is my first time watching you I love your spirit you are beautiful person and thanks for coming on TH-cam being a blessing and sharing with us all how you cook the collard greens and various things God bless you
🇺🇸❤️🙏😇 There are some that think families should be separated during the holidays this year. I see your big beautiful family that adore you Mattie, and as far as I’m concerned your family dinner is a sign to your followers that we should thank God and break bread together! I’m so proud of your success in the kitchen but I’m even more proud of you and your family for setting a wonderful example family unity. When I watch your show I think of the many memories of my mother and grandmother during the holidays bustling around the kitchen as they prepared our meal. The day I watched your creamed corn recipe I could actually feel the love. You do way more than recipes Mattie. You do families! Thank you for deciding to share yourself with us, we’re blessed! On this Thanksgiving Eve may God bless you and yours. We love you! 🙏😊
This blessed my soul! Thanks you for the love! I am doing what I love and I am glad to have this platform to share it with more than just my family! Be blessed and Happy Holidays 😊!
Hello Ms. Hattie. I used your recipe the last 2 years and I'm using it this year. Your recipe NEVER FAILS. I used to have a fear of cooking turkey because it wouldn't be completely done, but your fall off the bone recipe cooks completely through. The entire turkey is done, juicy, especially with my own personal seasoning. Thank you so much for inspiring me to cook turkeys without fear. love love your recipe ❤
I wash every leaf, too, but I haven't been cooking mine long enough. Now, I know, thanks! Oh, it looks good, so good I can taste it through the screen. Your mama is wonderful!
I am 4Sure, your collard greens well come out much better now. Let us know if you do make some for Thanksgiving and how they came out compared to your previous collard greens. Thanks for commenting and let us know if there is anything else you like to see.👍🏾
Your family is beautiful! Thank you for sharing your recipes and kitchen. Your hands and your cooking show how much you love your family and that brings tears to my eyes. May God bless you and your family.
OMGoodness!!!!!! When she lifted her turkey and it fell apart, I started salivating 😋😋😋🤤🤤🤤. My turkey has never done that. I will definitely use her method for 2020 CoVid Thanksgiving Dinner. Good tip placing the seasoning for the dressing in the microwave to tenderize. That makes so much sense🤗. I’m in the Thanksgiving mood now. Thank you so much for sharing your technique. God bless you and your family.🦃🍠🥬🍎
@4SureFamily: it’s the day after Thanksgiving and all that remains of my turkey are scraps. Your fall of the bone method rendered the perfect turkey. Thanks again for sharing. You really do know what you’re doin😄. Peace and love
I used to eat cornbread and buttermilk with my dad and my grandfather, God rest their souls. Im 49 born in 72 I remember and we also ate pot liquor after them greens was gone..hmmm so good. Thanks for bringn those memories back to me🥰
I'm cooking this! I don't really like white meat either because it's always dry and tasteless, but you can see that Mattie's turkey is very moist. What I really like too, being a retired hospital nurse, is using an old hospital gown for an apron! I bet I got one somewhere and I usually wear a lot of food on my clothes by the time I'm done cooking. Thanks for this video.
My mom cooked like that also. I’m older and that’s too much sugar now! I loved the Apple in the Turkey. I did that last year it was really tender. Thank you. Have a great Thanksgiving!
You must have known my grandmother! She taught me about seasoning under the breast and also putting butter under skin. I've been putting an Apple in the turkey for about 45 years now.
This video just popped up and I’m glad it did! Newly married and with covid I’m going to have to cook my first thanksgiving dinner by myself! nervous but I sure am glad this video went over everything from start to finish 🤗 thanks so much for doing a complete meal 😊
If you have time you can mixup mac n cheese day before and , candied yams and just bake the day of Thanksgiving . I've cooked my greens in a pressure cooker one time came out great and savez time .Make coleslaw day before. That will leave the turkey and dressing to do the day of tackle.
Oh, I remember my first time cooking Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, I was SO nervous! If I may suggest, try not to have too many different side dishes. Aside from your turkey, choose up 3 sides you feel comfortable making and a couple pies for dessert or cake whichever you like, and no shame in hitting the bakery for the desserts it takes the stress off a lot! Enjoy & God bless!
SO much work on those collard greens! Just wonderful to watch! I can just smell the beautiful kitchen smells from here! I loved watching Ms. Mattie! Our older folks teach us so much! She's a treasure! This warmed my soul! That looks like the beat stuffing I have ever seen!
Just want you to know how much I love and appreciate this video I have watched it three times already. The lady that cooks is wonderful I love everything about her, we do not celebrate thanksgiving in England but I cook it as I adore the food.Im sending you love respect and thanks from England God Bless you and keep you safe.
I'm at the Thanksgiving section of TH-cam because I'm getting a head start on my Thanksgiving menu checking out recipes and looking at what I can prep and freeze starting November 14th so my back feet won't be killing me from cooking everything three days day before and the same day.
This is old-fashioned down southern cooking I can't eat for any more but I love watching you cook it and I'm glad you said they could be done with turkey or beef I didn't know you could season greens with beef
You look like a wonderful cook, but i can't hear what you're saying because of the music! I'm missing out on your instructions because the music overpowers your voice. I want to hear what you're saying..not the music!
@@deansurratt7936 And I think your comment is extra rude. Like as if," I liked your video, next time have the music down lower so I can hear you," would be so hard to say. You dont have to be so damn ignorant.
@@majestically_PbJelly_Queen Girl, stop being so negative! That was Not rude! It was a suggestion! And I agree! The music was too loud! Nothing rude about that!
@@HMercy Are you screaming through a text? Like all them exclamation points is indicating you're screaming. Your reply is just as ignorant. Or maybe yall just don't know any better!!
Yes, because you cook them in the oven you actually cook the greens more evenly. When you cook on the stove heat come from only the bottom of the pan. 👍🏿🐸
I live how thorough she was....and how clean the kitchen was as well. Only thing that blew me was the lack.of seasoning use on the turkey. I guess it seem weird to me....because Im from Louisiana and we believe in seasoning our food....especially a turkey. We actually inject every part of the turkey with cajun season...along with galic and onion powder....accent...black pepper...then we stuff it with the Holy Trinity (Fresh onions..bell pepper s and celery) Over all I love the video!!
Dressing. My favorite part of Thanksgiving. What a privilege to have you for the Momma of the family. God bless you. Love moist dressing and your turkey is the best. No dry turkey for me.
I love how excited Ms Mattie gets when she tastes her food and knows it's just right!! I do the same thing and maybe a lil dance too!! It also brings me joy to watch people eat my food and love it! Hope the family is well Happy Thanksgiving 2020!
Looks so divine. Keep on cooking and spreading your wisdom. These youngens sure need a hard lesson on the old ways of cooking. We grew up on buttermilk and hot water cornbread. Fresh buttermilk I may add. Just a pinch of sugar with it being fresh then add the cornbread then milk and sit while hot. Me oh my!! Tyvm again and God bless you my dear.
Thank you for inviting us to your Thanksgiving kitchen, Miss Mattie! Everything looks terrific, especially the greens. Hope you have a happy holiday. God Bless you and the family...💜
First time I tried to make turnip greens I thought I did a good job, however they tasted liked sand. Need to make sure I wash them several times the next time. Thanks for sharing your tips and videos!
I love the way you wash your greens. I thought I was the only person to wash my greens one by one. It just makes sense. All that dirt just lands on the greens in the bottom of the sink.
Thank you beautiful woman! Is your arm better now? I won't tell you how I learned to cook greens this way, but I did and it's wonderful to see you do it! Awesome and delicious!
I'm from Africa & watching this beautiful family matriarch take the time to do everything from scratch making famous family delectables both with love & her hands, instantly takes me back to the community of women that raised me.. The next generation NEEDS to see this often NEEDS to be around this NEEDS to smell this and touch this in order to pass on the rich threads of tradition that keeps family bound & functioning with one another WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN 👠 WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HOME WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY this was such a privilege for me to watch & a comfort to see.. .
Lord LADY You Are Really An Old Fashioned Cook. I LOVE IT. I Wanted Some SOOOO Bad. Music Was To Loud When You Were Talking. I Don't Usually Watch A Long Video, Because I Get Bored. I Watched Till The End. But You Were Great In Explanations And In A Clear Voice. Not Boring. Liked That You Taste. ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING VIDEO.
This video takes me back to the food from childhood and family gathering together on the holidays. My mouth was watering the entire time 😁 Have a blessed holiday girl and your family!🙏
now you done taught me something about that turkey. wrapping it up in foil and cooking until it falls off the bone. i do mine different but i like your method!
Woman you cooking all up and through that kitchen and its spotless 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I can see you cook and cleabn at the same time. Thats what my grandma taught me to do. I don't even need your recipes but I enjoy watching you. Blessings❤
Hi it’s me again I wasn’t gonna cook Thanksgiving dinner this year but when I seen your video I’m gonna go on and do it you encouraged me to have Thanksgiving dinner at my home from the Moore family
I use mustard greens and collard greens together with neck bones and ham hocks together . So I boil a few packs of both of them together because I need some for my greens snap beans and red beans
I tend to use hammocks in my greens and neck bones in my beans! But they both give really good flavors to what ever you mix it with! Thanks for the tip!😉
@@4SureFamily I couldn't believe how much liquid was at the bottom when u took it out the oven because I didn't see you add any before you put it in.... Did you ?? And also, did you baste ?? I have anyways put liquid in the bottom but I'd love to try your way , it just fell right apart ! And if there's no need to add liquid then hay, even better !!
It was such a pleasure to watch a real down home cook! You definitely gave me some pointers. My saying is you can always learn because we all have different gifts & ways! Thank you....I ate everything with my 👀 (eyes) Amen!
This reminds me of watching my grandma cook. Your greens look so good and I am just enjoying watching you cook and hearing your wisdom. I am learning a lot.
I really enjoyed this! This lady reminds me of watching my Grandmother & remembering her steps! I love how simple & easy she makes her meal. The secret for the turkey I'm doing for Christmas!! Thank you so much for sharing this delicious meal. Happy Thanksgiving 4 sure family! ❤🦃
I use my pressure cooker and I'll never go back to to long hours over the stove/oven. That pressure infuses the flavors throughout in record breaking time. Boy do I remember those days and admire people that still stick with it. #memories
Happy Thanksgiving Ms. Mattie 😁😁😁 i used your turkey apple recipe n it was AMAZING so so TENDER came out Perfect 👌👌👌👌!!! We had our turkey for lunch n the family enjoyed it very much. I also appreciate your use of commercial pans/cookware. I see how useful they are. Thank you so much. You inspire me to get in the kitchen and cook! ❤️

I have heard the use of eggs, but never use them myself! Sounds flavorful..😋❤
Just want you to know how much I love and appreciate this video I have watched it three times already. The lady that cooks is wonderful I love everything about her, we do not celebrate thanksgiving in England but I cook it as I adore the food.Im sending you love respect and thanks from England God Bless you and keep you safe.
Thank you so much 🙂
Thank you so much this was my very first Thanksgiving meal as a married woman. I followed ur recipe to a T; On Point thanks Mama.
You are so welcome and great job!
PORK IS DEADLY. Thank you. LOVE from an 81 years young Muslim sister, living in Queretaro, Mexico.
I cannot get over how simple you made that turkey 🦃 and how delicious and moist it looked.
Thank-you!
God bless you I'm just now seeing this video and my turkey came out delicious you are a blessing to all of us thank you!
You are so welcome.
I'm at the Thanksgiving section of TH-cam because I'm getting a head start on my Thanksgiving menu checking out recipes and looking at what I can prep and freeze starting November 14th so my back feet won't be killing me from cooking everything three days day before and the same day.
Thanks great! Glad you choose my video to watch, 4Sure!
This is old-fashioned down southern cooking I can't eat for any more but I love watching you cook it and I'm glad you said they could be done with turkey or beef I didn't know you could season greens with beef
Sorry to hear that but glad you liked the video.
Oh My Goodness!!! I haven't eaten that good since I was a kid and my Aunt Inez would cook up some soul food! BIG HUGS and greetings from Toronto!
Thanks so much! Thanks for stopping by and have a Happy Holiday! 👍🏿💕
3rd year watching.
This is my favorite Thanksgiving video. Going to do the collards this year. Thank you!
Thanks!
You must be military...ive heard you mention the commissary several times. You're a marvelous cook. Luv your video!!!
Yes, my husband retired from the Army! Thanks for watching!👍🏿💕
Even I don’t put pork in my greens ; but I never seen anyone cook theirs greens in the oven ; I think I will try that ❤️❤️❤️
Yes, because you cook them in the oven you actually cook the greens more evenly.
Thanks for watching! Hope you and your family are ok from the storm. God Bless you!🙏🏽
I agree! That big Turkey needed way more seasoning on the outside. Also, I like more pot liquor in my greens! But to each his own.
😁. Wonderful family unity. 😍. Only missing is some of family standing back observing what you doing. 👍🏽
Yes! Thank you!
Dressing. My favorite part of Thanksgiving. What a privilege to have you for the Momma of the family. God bless you. Love moist dressing and your turkey is the best. No dry turkey for me.
Happy holidays! And yes, no dry turkeys.
This is great video for all the people that are learning to cook or want to make a thanksgiving dinner.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you so much 🤗 Happy Holidays!
I'm loving your kitchen curtains
Thanks Betty Mile..
Oh, they're beautiful curtains and all this wonderful food, what more could we ask for? Thanks!!!
2nd year watching. This is such a great video, real home cooking.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love how excited Ms Mattie gets when she tastes her food and knows it's just right!! I do the same thing and maybe a lil dance too!! It also brings me joy to watch people eat my food and love it! Hope the family is well Happy Thanksgiving 2020!
Love it!! Bless you and Happy Thanksgiving. 🙏🏽
Such a pleasure to watch. You are wonderful and an excellent cook!
Thanks for watching!
Yes ma'am, too many microwave meals! I love being in the kitchen.
@@4SureFamily me too I absolutely love it.
Thanks for the recipe best turkey ever Thanksgiving & Christmas
You are so welcome! Happy Holidays, 4Sure! 👍🏿🐸
Thank you for inviting us to your Thanksgiving kitchen, Miss Mattie! Everything looks terrific, especially the greens. Hope you have a happy holiday. God Bless you and the family...💜
You are welcome! Happy Holidays 😊!
I put Apple pear orange onion and celery, and garlic in my turkey. I might put butter on the inside this year thanks!
Sounds great!
I love the "pot liquor" of the greens. I need that water
Yes, you know your stuff!😉👍🏿
I so miss my grandma. Thank you Ms. Mattie for sharing.
Sorry to hear that. Glad you stopped bye and was about to learn something new, 4Sure! 👍🏿🐸
First time I tried to make turnip greens I thought I did a good job, however they tasted liked sand. Need to make sure I wash them several times the next time. Thanks for sharing your tips and videos!
Oh no! Don't worry, you will get better each time you cook them. And soon you'll be an expert, 4Sure! 👍🏿🐸
I love the way you wash your greens. I thought I was the only person to wash my greens one by one. It just makes sense. All that dirt just lands on the greens in the bottom of the sink.
I hope many people wash their greens, it is alot more than dirt that you may find. Thanks for stopping by and showing some love!😀
Delicious meal from a lovely lady! Thank you for the great ideas! Can't wait to cook some those greens ...woo hoo!
You are so welcome! Yes, please try the, you love those greens!
Thank you beautiful woman! Is your arm better now? I won't tell you how I learned to cook greens this way, but I did and it's wonderful to see you do it! Awesome and delicious!
Yes, thank you!
I'm from Africa & watching this beautiful family matriarch take the time to do everything from scratch making famous family delectables both with love & her hands, instantly takes me back to the community of women that raised me..
The next generation NEEDS to see this often
NEEDS to be around this
NEEDS to smell this and
touch this in order to pass on the rich threads of tradition that keeps family bound & functioning with one another
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN 👠
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL HOME
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY
this was such a privilege for me to watch & a comfort to see.. .
Thanks for all the love, 4Sure! 💕
Rosetta everyone loves you comment, thanks! 👍🏿🐸
This video takes me back to the food from childhood and family gathering together on the holidays. My mouth was watering the entire time 😁
Have a blessed holiday girl and your family!🙏
Thank you walk in beauty for stopping by! 😉👍🏿
now you done taught me something about that turkey. wrapping it up in foil and cooking until it falls off the bone. i do mine different but i like your method!
Sounds great! But ensure you place the apple in the turkey too! 👍🏿🐸
@@4SureFamily Will do! never tried it but im sure its great!
Well done Mamma, love from Australia 💜🇦🇺
Woman you cooking all up and through that kitchen and its spotless 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I can see you cook and cleabn at the same time. Thats what my grandma taught me to do. I don't even need your recipes but I enjoy watching you. Blessings❤
Thank you Jacqueline Jones foolow me at Mattie's Kitchen! And let me know if you have something you want to me cook!
Hi it’s me again I wasn’t gonna cook Thanksgiving dinner this year but when I seen your video I’m gonna go on and do it you encouraged me to have Thanksgiving dinner at my home from the Moore family
Happy holidays! Wow, that means a lot. I hope I can inspire the young to cook more like we did in the old ways. 👍🏿🐸
Her kitchen is cleaner than the board of health!!
Thanks😃!
@@4SureFamily I cook my neck bones and ham hocks together just so I can reduce all the things I have to do for the holidays
“ I don’t measure nothing, I just pour it”. I loved her after that. 👍🏿😍
Hey hey Jeffrey Porter! When you know what you are doing you don't need measuring cups!😉
I am here for that juicy tender turkey 🙋🏽♀️. I’ve had dry turkey all my life! The struggle is real😭😭😭😂
That's great! I hope you were able to take something away for the video, 4Sure! 👍🏿🐸
Cook your turkey in a roasting bag and it will be tender, juicy, falling off of the bone tender!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
@@4SureFamily I couldn't believe how much liquid was at the bottom when u took it out the oven because I didn't see you add any before you put it in.... Did you ?? And also, did you baste ??
I have anyways put liquid in the bottom but I'd love to try your way , it just fell right apart ! And if there's no need to add liquid then hay, even better !!
Thank you for taking the time out to show us how it's done I should've been watching my mother but she's gone
So sorry to hear that! Thanks for watching my video Searelle Polk😊!
OH MY GOSHHHHHHHHHH.. Wow. Falling apart and juicy. Thank you for sharing. I will definitely have to give that a try. - TY for sharing.
You are so welcome!
I love this video so authentic reminds me of my granny and late aunt
Thanks for you comment, that really means a lot, 4Sure! 👍🏿🐸
It was such a pleasure to watch a real down home cook! You definitely gave me some pointers. My saying is you can always learn because we all have different gifts & ways! Thank you....I ate everything with my 👀 (eyes) Amen!
So true! I hope you got full, lol.
This reminds me of watching my grandma cook. Your greens look so good and I am just enjoying watching you cook and hearing your wisdom. I am learning a lot.
You’re too cute, you remind me of my mom! She was a great cook and really clean (like you), much love and blessings from my family to yours ❤️
Oh thank you! You’re too kind. Happy Holidays and bless you too! 👍🏿💕
I guess you’re cooking when you use commercial restaurant pans and wear a hospital gown for an apron. I do like a brown seasoned turkey.
Thanks for commenting! 👍🏿💕
🤣🤣🤣 and " butta wit" no measuring spoons in sight!
Cooked turkey for Thanksgiving, turned out really moist. Thanks!!!!
Yes, I am glad it turned out good for you 👍!
Thank you for stopping by and supporting our channel!
I use my pressure cooker and I'll never go back to to long hours over the stove/oven. That pressure infuses the flavors throughout in record breaking time. Boy do I remember those days and admire people that still stick with it.
#memories
That sounds great, thanks for sharing!
I can’t wait for the holidays! That food looks delicious! 4Sure!🐸❤️

I’m new to your channel, as I just found you now. I really appreciate the time and attention you gave in your instructions to help us make an extraordinary meal! The fall off the bone turkey ...wow! Everything looked incredible. I know you don’t give measurements on ingredients, but it is not difficult to see how much of everything you put in each dish. I also appreciate your use of commercial pans/cookware. I see how useful they are. Thank you so much. You inspire me to get in the kitchen and cook! ❤️
Yes, start cooking Caroline. And welcome to the family!
