Really a very good and complete budget video. I watch a lot of these just as a comparison. Our place is in the city of San Fernando a few minutes walk from the malls and real close to S&R. I love my western style food and don't think (for me anyhow) that I could have chosen a better city to retire to.
We're temporarily back in Vancouver to get rid of our stuff so we can get back to San Fernando permanently this autumn.

With this high of an exchange rate a smart expat would be taking money out of his USD bank account and putting it in his PHP bank account. I saw a video on ANC about the drop of the peso value. They expect the value to be high 50s low 60s against the US dollar through the end of 2023.

Hi Walter, In Digos we have about the same expenses for bills as yours. Although we do pay 10,000 pesos for our place which is a bit bigger as we need the space for the boys. Just to comment, try 123 movies as a download as it's free and I would put it up against Netflix. We don't use food panda as I am tired of them always getting the orders wrong so I have learned to cook here which saves us lots of money. Amazing as our electric is about the same as well as the water bill etc. We have a dog but he eats the leftovers. Thanks for the video Walter, Well done as usual!

The only time we need more is when we are travelling around the country staying at hotels, resorts & eating every meal out & even then $3000 month would probably cover it. Enjoy.

Your rent is atypical. Most should add a minimum USD $200 for rent. Even $1200 a month is rock bottom imo. I've been a permanent resident in the RP for 7 years. Married to a Filipina and we have a 14 year old child. We own our home and our daughter is in private school. We live in Visayas in the mountains with no AC. We seldom go out but do hire a handyman for home projects. Our monthly budget is USD $2800. I would suggest that anyone contemplating retirement here should have at least 2000 USD a month in income.

Good information to ball-park a decent budget. Although I'll still plan on a higher amount, and use a lower exchange rate, I think it's still a good ideal to look at a $2k/mo budget, to let you set aside some for emergencies or other unexpected expenses. I don't think having below $1.5k/mo would be a good idea, particularly if living in a major city area (Manila, Cebu, Subic, etc.). Nice to know some real numbers to look at for consideration. If you gonna live in cities but stay minimalist on your lifestyle without worrying too much about budget, actually 1k a month is good enough. I have been tracking my expenses meticulously fkr 3 years while living in the Philippines province. I think your estimates are realistic. Mine are more on the food side. And mostly transportation. I owe a pickup truck and scooter or motor as they call it here. That adds a lot on registration insurance and fuel costs. The key I always want to mention as comment in these budget videos is that many boast how low they can go but that's ok for short term but long term you need to add expenses for a pleasabt life. You want to buy a thing or two once and awhile. Or in my case maintain my house. Etc. Or make a trip and vacation. Without having rent expenses I still struggle to get by a 90-100k pesos budget every month. And yes drinking my beer. Eating pretty much what I want. I have an asawa only. Sometimes little expenses for family matters but that is it. So going cheap is nice but you want to live like that for the next 20 years is a different matters. You need some extra. With transportation freedom you need 1500-2000$

Your life is better than to live in the U.S.A. today and be homeless in there... All the places in the U.S.A. and anywhere in this country these days have too many homeless. Most of them robbed and killed brutally by the drug addicts in the streets while they are sleeping at night... I just got that bad news that my Black American best friend (my savior and my body when were @ Tora Bora Afghanistan) became a Veteran homeless in the U.S.A... According to his younger sister he was robbed and brutally killed stabed his neck and both eyes by some of the homeless drug addicts. During or while he was sleeping at night on the street. We got out from the Military after 12 years of service and no Benefits but, only Monthly SSA Pension. I did not know that he became beggar and homeless in the U.S.A.. If I knew he was homeless for sure I invited to live in the Philippines, instead.

Are you sure you're really in the Philippines? I didn't hear a single rooster crow, tricycle, or karaoke! Sorry, I will never be able to resist a cheap joke. Is having cheap rent like that common in your area? If so, you've made a great argument for renting vs. owning. Great budget video!
