I just ordered the left-handed version of this guitar, and your videos are what sold me. Not just on the sound, but also on the finish. It’s only available in two finishes for LH - Lemon Drop and Honey Burst.
Needless to say, after seeing this gorgeous guitar in your videos, I went Lemon Drop.

I've purchased 10 Harley Benton's, 2 acoustic guitars.....which I think far out way the electric guitars and 6 electrics. Only one was not playable out of the box. I love Thomann....my sweetie offered me a Gibson LP for Xmas and I said no thanks, I want a HB SC-550!

The HB guitars are amazing! Very high quality and rediculous price! They buy straight from the factory and sell right off their web site, and that keeps the middle man fat right off the bone!
    What an awesome guitar brother!

Thanks James. The bloopers are really popular with most folks and I think it's nice to show I'm human. You wouldn't believe the amount of out takes there are most times. They're not always amusing and sometimes they are not broadcast friendly 😉 It means a lot to me when folks comment on them as it means you watched right to the end. I'm starting to put some nice stuff right at the end for those who watch it all the way. 👍😎

Hi mate great guitar unbelievable for the price! Blackwood fretboard, alot of these are now in response to Rosewood being on the Cities list, there are numerous types but most are made from Radiatta Pine that is put thru a process of being dyed, baked and resin impregnated. Had the opportunity of doing some testing of this material would be interested to see how this holds up and your opinion of feel etc

Good Guitars I have 2 Harley Benton's an SC 450 CB plus Wilkenson and a CST 24 deluxe in tobacco. Both are amazing quality for the price. The CST was not made in China it was made in Vietnam. From what I have heard HB are made all over the place. I do have other guitars to compare them to 1 of them is a PRS Custom 24 S2.

Is that the accurate color shown in the video? Yours looks much lighter than the Thomann pics. I just received a SC450plus LD, and it definitely has a very distinct orange tinge around the border. Closer to the pics on the site.

Yes it is and at first I was uncomfortable with that but having watched a recent video about it with him I think it is meant to be with him to add more history to it. He clearly loves and cherishes it and it gets played live all the time which I totally respect. I thought initially he might have bought it as a heritage investment. I was wrong. Huge kudos to the guy.

  • @frmcf

Thanks for doing the review. I don't know if that's true that all HB guitars are made in China, though. I think they use factories in other countries too. In any case, I don't know what you find, but there are good and bad guitars made in just about every country. Country of production is, in my opinion, only a very rough guide to the quality you can expect to see.

I never tire of Harley Benton reviews. I quite fancy the XT-22 or one of their 'T' types with the 'TV Jones' sort of pickups. Shame about the lacquer crack - Thomann are great at customer service and would happily change yours for one without problems. If you look at Cory Mura's channel you can see him trying out some new Harley Benton prototypes which are going to be placed higher up in the HB range.

Nice guitar! Now that HBs are finally available in the U.S. , I'm thinking about buying their Manhattan model jazz box. I realize you probably haven't played one, but wondering if you believe HB's general quality is roughly equivalent to an epiphone or ibanez? I've been looking for a cheap jazz guitar, all of the used ibanez, epis, and peaveys I've found used of that ilk, are about the same price as a new HB Manhattan. Love your videos.

@@Chinaguitarsceptic Thanks man, I'd love that but I live in Italy near Venice. Unfortunately I had to return the guitar for a problem. It seems it did not undergo quality control in Germany (no QC little book and no stickers) and it had a bad problem on the headstock. The tuners for the third and fourth strings were misplaced and the strings were touching the near tuners. Bad sound and tuning. But the guys at customer service immediately sent me a RMA and postal sticker. I'll let you know when it comes back.. if it was a Chibson I'd be crying now. Ciao.

Nearly everyone says the Harley Benton guitars are fantastic for the lower price points they sell for. I’m considering buying one or two myself to get a Tele and PRS style guitar for not very much money. It is a little more of a risk for those of us in the US as it is costly to ship one back if it’s a bad one. I enjoyed the bloopers at the end.

With by now all these HB videos, no criticism, I think by now there should be a 'definite' project, which might ask for a collaboration between several youtubers. Instead of ordering one at the time, order ten HB of rhe same model and type. Unpack them at one location and judge them on the usual criteria; finish, set up, playability, tuning stability etc. Instead of the 'is it good' question, you'd get an answer to 'what are the chances' question. By now I think buying a HB gives a chance of 1 in 5 it needs professional help, 1 in 5 it's only reasonable for the price *), and 2 of 5 it's great for the price and 1 in 5 it's great anyway. Buying and testing them 10 at the time may give these figures some substance. When 1 in 5 needs additional costs a HB of 200 'actually' costs 240. It might give some nice discussions in the video too. When you do this with five you could all publish one part of the whole session, each covering a topic, unboxing and first impressions, visual inspection, playability/set-up, sound etc. *) I have a HB, it's nice for the price, but I wouldn't show/play it proudly to others without mentioning the price for it's not really good.

It's crazy how they can build a guitar like that at such a low price. Especially a set-neck guitar. It makes me wonder how much the guitar factory workers are getting paid an hour to build these guitars. I think machines and robots are mostly building these low priced guitars now...

Michael Fitch You have to order them from Thomman. They're Thommans house brand. There is an additional shipping cost to the US, which is around $70 I think, but from what I understand that's per order not per guitar. So if you order two it's still $70.

I bought a Harley Benton 7 string from Thomann a while ago (I live in Canada). It had some shipping damage which I could deal with, but it has TONS of finish issues (blobs of paint, neck scuffed and scratched having sandpaper feeling, fretboard has chips of wood coming off of the sides and on the face near frets). Just totally unacceptable workmanship even on a cheapo guitar. I've owned cheap Epiphones and Jacksons at similar price range and they had none of these issues.
The neck profile is nice and plays well otherwise. Fretboard seems level, though frets could use a polishing and are quite sharp, but I expected that. I was quite disappointed that the chewed up fretboard and globs of paint on the body would pass Thomann's quality control. After shipping and duty, I don't think these instruments are worth the risk unless you live in an area where you can try them out or return them easily. You'd have to get new tuners, new pickups, pay someone to set it up or spend a couple hours yourself. When it's said and done, you could've just bought a low end Ibanez or Jackson 7 string and be done with it.
I've been emailing Thomann and they don't respond either. I've emailed about 3 different addresses to no avail.

The 'crack in the lacquer' at 6:18 looks to me to have been caused by the wood joint opening. I've looked at a lot of YT videos on the Harley Bentons, having been tempted by their 'Boneyard' LP lookalike and the 'Prince' Tele, but every single video I've watched has pointed up some extrememely serious build quality issues. They may be cheap, but in my view their prices reflect the poor build standards. Thanks for the excellent video though!

Not sure as the heel joint looks sound but it is very likely a factor as the joint is stronger than the surrounding wood.

HB should not have sent this geetar out due to the botched job where the neck meets the geetar body. I'de call it a "r" grade at best; in need of repair.

They are made all over Asia, not just China or Vietnam. But production of higher end models has been moved to Vietnam from what I have seen so far.

    Hey CGS!
    Interesting fact:
“Blackwood” is actually Harley Benton’s term for baked maple that’s been through a staining/colourising process!
