- The Northern Contingent do the Camino in style We stayed in a variety of accommodation from B&B, a vineyard and a converted water mill amongst others. We may have not roughed it in the albergues but the walking is the same. We started in Leon and walked the 192 miles to Santiago de Compostela which is the same as the C2C I’m not in anyway religious but have to say it’s a very spiritual journey We sampled the local culture and food along the way as you’ll see in the film. The best places to eat are the ones where nobody speaks English the best one being in the square at Santiago where we had menu del dia “ deal of the day”. The one in the film which I didn’t get a picture of the main course or pudding ( there’s a funny story about the pudding) we had a litre of each white and red wine, the traditional Galician soup of cabbage and potatoes Caldo Gallego, delicious, hake or chicken chips veg and gravy. The main sounds simple but believe me it was as good as you’d get in any top restaurant. When we asked for “la cuenta por favor” he wrote it on the table cloth €46 and that was for 4.
