I've given myself some extra days to keep going to Finisterre once I reach Santiago. I wasn’t going to say this, because it is personal, but the Camino de Santiago has changed my life without me even going yet. While I was preparing, I decided to get a total health checkup with lots of appointments to lots of different specialists. We discovered a small growth that was just about to become life-threatening. So, St. James has become my patron Saint, because while I was getting ready to go on pilgrimage to his shrine, I caught cancer before it would have become disfiguring or life-threatening. I also hurt myself, so my trip was delayed, but that’s a different story. Haha.

Thanks so much for your informative video! I am so excited for my journey on the Camino! I pray I complete it. I’m starting in Sarria on April 29th and will be walking the Camino in 5 days with a small tour group. Do you advise a wintery jacket then?

Heads up for the long weekend in Spain, many people will have holidays. If you can plan the trip in the way that you won’t arrive to Santiago NOT on Sunday, you will skip half of the crowds
@caminotellers First, let me start by saying how much I appreciate your videos! They are informative, fun, & inspiring. Second, I'm planning on doing my first Camino starting mid-July of this year on the Frances route. Should I still plan on bringing a long sleeve shirt & a fleece for the evenings? Trying to save as much weight as possible and if I could drop those two it would save me about 435-450 grams.
Thanks a million for connecting! We always take two layers: the long-sleeve T-shirt, which helps us with sunburns, and the extra light, foldable down jacket, which can be a good idea for colder evenings, Galicia's humidity, and as a pillow if you need a quick rest. Many people use fleece jackets, but we prefer a lightweight, foldable jacket. What do you think?
I have 20 days to walk this April. My plan is to walk the Portuguese from Porto, the Frances from Sarria, and the Ingles from Ferrol. Holler if you see an orange guy out there!
I love your videos. Thank you for all the effort and time you put into it. St-Jacque chose me for May 2026: I’m from Cologne and will travel by bike from Lyon to Le Puy En Valley to the Pyrenees. May 2027: Pyrenees - Camino Frances - Santiago de Compostella - Cap Finistere.
In your opinion, would you take a sleeping back on the primitivo in late april? I only took a sleeping liner on the frances but it was in September. And I'm not an ultra light hiker but I do like to keep it as light as possible. I'm a fairly warm sleeper and I'm guessing that some of the alburgues will have blankets, even if for a small fee. Thanks for the videos and who knows, maybe I'll see you out there someday.
April in primitivo is…cold! Nice dawn/synthetic jacket is a good idea, a really good idea!!! And a nice hat too. Keep us informed about the trail as we will be there few weeks after you !

Sorry for late reply, but we are in the middle of the Caminos, book is useful for extra info and keeping the map with you! There are also few apps that do similar job and weight nothing. We would take a guidebook for history or extra info!

@@caminotellers - we have slowly built our training up over the last year from just walking an hour every day to now walking longer distances regularly with loaded packs. We've tested our footwear, clothes, packs, sleeping bags, and quietly examined our personal reasons for the Camino deeply. We've read your book, made new friends with people who have already done it. We often meet other pilgrims while we are on training walks - the sticks give us away - LOL. In short - we are counting the days !
Hello and another great video. I don't know if you can answer this question: I have booked a one way flight from US to Madrid for April Camino. I have seen posts and comments about needing "proof of onward travel". I was planning on booking return flight after I had started my Camino. Any information on this?
I’ve been to Spain several times and while the Customs and Immigration Service may ask how long you plan to stay in the country, they will not ask for proof. It’s better to have your return ticket way ahead of time because it will likely be much cheaper.

There are lists of them on many pages, also there is an indication next to the main entrance… and the price is also a good indicator of which albergue is private or public or donation based.

Which part did you enjoy or learn?
22:50 mis colegas!!!! 🥰
Así?
@ desde hace 36 años por ahora, y me alegra verles en el camino 👍🏻
I'm doing the Camino Porto in the middle of May!
Yupiiii
Central or costal?
@@caminotellers coastal!
In June doing the french
thanks very much!
You're welcome!
Starting mine in mid April
French way?
❤ this Caminos
🥰
Camino Primitivo starting on my 40th birthday on April 15th :)
Happy birthday 🥳 - Caminotellers are the first one to wish you a great life! what a wonderful present you are getting for yourself!
I’m turning 45 in Feb 2025 and Planning to walk the French route 😊
Great!!!! 😊 if you need more info, ask anytime
Thanks guys
Our pleasure!
I have 20 days to walk this April. My plan is to walk the Portuguese from Porto, the Frances from Sarria, and the Ingles from Ferrol. Holler if you see an orange guy out there!
We will Tom!
I want to walk in September. I have been reading and watching as much as possible. Any info will help.
Connect to our livestream on Thursday and resolve any possible doubts!
What a great adventure you are planning, please keep us informed!
Wife and I planning on SEP/OCT Camino. Not set on which one. But time is no issue, so thinking one of the full routes.
Longer it is, better it feels!
Great video! So happy that i found you. Thank you! I am planning to do Camino Primitivo in early July'24. Could be too hot? I am starting preparation today!
Welcome to the Community! How early is your “early Camino primitivo”?? Is it in spring or summer?
Hola! I am planning to star on first week of July 7, 24
Love it how you explained camino walk, me and aunt is 62syears old. I’ll take your guide. Do I need book guide?. Which one,and we’re to get it. Thank you so much.
Sorry for late reply, but we are in the middle of the Caminos, book is useful for extra info and keeping the map with you! There are also few apps that do similar job and weight nothing. We would take a guidebook for history or extra info!
Australian husband & wife, taking long service leave and walking the Camino Frances from St Jean to Santiago, finishing at Cape Finisterre. We are leaving from St Jean in the first week of April this year. Hope to meet you there - Buen Camino !
You will be opening the Caminos this year, we will join in may!! How are the preparations going?
@@caminotellers - we have slowly built our training up over the last year from just walking an hour every day to now walking longer distances regularly with loaded packs. We've tested our footwear, clothes, packs, sleeping bags, and quietly examined our personal reasons for the Camino deeply. We've read your book, made new friends with people who have already done it. We often meet other pilgrims while we are on training walks - the sticks give us away - LOL. In short - we are counting the days !
We are starting the Camino Frances on March 14. Planning a leisurely pace on 16-22 km per day with rest days weekly. We are from South of Sydney!
Thanks! Do you come from US?@@me-lg1yw
Yep, this is not a mandatory requirement so far… we know some people who come for Camino with no return ticket !
Agree!👍
I can walk around 15 km a day. Can I find a hostel-Albergue to stay in the evenings within this distance on the Camino de Norte? 🙏 thank you
Hi! Will you be starting a Camino del Norte from Irún? As only the first stage you will have to do 16k until you reach the first albergue! Join our I’ve stream on Thursday where we answer all the questions and we can see how is the situation on the entire Camino! Hugs
Camino Portuguese in July!
Porto? Costal or central?
How does it work getting a stamp if you’re staying in a BnB/hotel instead of an Alburgue?
@@jrs80920 pretty sure most of them have stamps as well.
I'm planning to go in November! A little worried about the cold...,
You will be fine, remember the idea of layers, base, mid and the top! A windbreaker also can be handy as the feeling of cold is also caused by the cold winds!
I’m planning to go on finish of August early September from porto or Lisbon. Your tips are very valuable to me What do you know about the Portuguese Camino please. Do you have a video about it please. I’m intending to do the caminho from 1988 when I read the Paulo Coelho book and now the opportunity just arrives Gratitude
No, we don’t make a dedicated video only about portugués way, you can find some episodes from previous years, showing some interesting details though
Are the streams and rivers safe to swim in as there is so much agriculture in Northern Spain?
I come from Scotland and the North of Spain (and Portugal) had some of the cleanest rivers and streams I have ever seen. An abundance of fish in them as well.
@@rossnairn6488 Any pointers about getting permission to fish in Spain?
there are a real gift especially after a long day of walking! and you can find many of them- Zubiri, Estella, Hospital de Orbigo....
agree!
mmm, it's a good question...let us investigate about that!
hello there, thanks very much for this very important tips,me n my wife are planning to do the camino,we would like to ask for us 1st timers, what route will you suggest for us to do,maybe the shortest, just to get the feel of experiencing camino, and later on we will do our wish list camino frances route, thanks very much.
Welcome in the family! Many people start with last 100km on few routes, which can be around 6 days… starting from Sarria, Ferrol, Tui or Vigo. If you have 2 weeks you can easily start from Porto and the route is easy and accessible to all. Which months are you planning to travel??
@@caminotellers most probably mid of next year,we will follow your tips, prepare physically and mentally,i am already 60 yrs old really wishing to do the camino before reaching 61,thanks very much and more power.
I will start the French Way on the 8th of May, but i will arriving in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port late on the 7th.
😊👌 we will be in SJPDP those days!
start from Sarria 16 July excited apprehensive Mike from Wales
Super! Keep us informed and send some pic
How busy is the Camino at this time? I would like to walk next year from mid July to mid August but I’ve heard it might be difficult to find places to sleep. Hope u have a great Camino!
How do we know which are private albergues vs regular ones?
There are lists of them on many pages, also there is an indication next to the main entrance… and the price is also a good indicator of which albergue is private or public or donation based.
