It was fun "hanging out" with you guys today. I changed the tires on my ebike recently and realized the front was on backwards AFTER I added the sealant. Got it switched, and it was a lot easier the second time with my "practice" run.
So rad getting to hang with you as well!! Ah!!! The freakin' worst - I think it's just because we're getting so stoked to get out & ride, rushing to do it, then BOOM. Backward tire. haha. Practice is good though! At least that's what they keep telling me. -Mike
Awesome bike man and its rad seeing another hardtail! I just started to refresh mine a few days ago and Im planning on hitting some trails this weekend🤘🏼
Helllll yea!! Love to hear it. There's something so fun about riding a hardtail; I think it's the connection to the roots of mountain biking. Raw & real! Enjoy your rides this weekend!
Right?! That's my one hold up; I do love the feeling of simplicity on the bike but my knees are pretty beat from 20 years of BMX. Thank you for being here amigo! You rule. -Mike
That's a great question! Some brands may do it, but I've never seen it. The pitch of the race may vary by manufacturer unlike BMX...but I'm not confident in that. -Mike
Most people I know with the coil have really enjoyed it!! This was the air spring & when it worked was pretty alright, but I'd only get a few weeks out of it before it turned full pogo stick like this - such a bummer! This one did it mid ride!
wow, did that old fork have a lockout engaged? i saw you have sliding dropouts on that hardtail (which i know is needed for single speed) and it looks like you have them all the way forward -- i did the same thing with my kona honzo. how tempted were you to buy a new tool for getting the crown race onto the new fork? fall is also my favorite time to ride. only downside is it takes longer for the trails to dry out and reopen after rain.
Nope!! It was just TOAST. Happened mid ride too, the descent was terrifying haha Yea! I love the sliding drop outs; hoping I can keep the wheel as forward as possible with the belt. I was suuuuper close to buying one haha. It’s on my list now, along with bearing presses, & a truing stand for our new work bench. 😂 No doubt! Hoping fall lasts extra long this year 🤞
@@JoyOfBike haha I was thinking truing stand when you were changing the tape! this summer I trued wheels in the bike frame which went okay but it sure would be nice to have a truing stand! my workbench isn't big enough to have one out when I'm not using it though
hahaha I used to get made fun of for saying this!!! In fact I ONLY wanted a hardtail for years. Now that I've got this one back up & running, I think I'll be on the same program as you. So rad!
Thanks man!! Grateful to still have it - puts a smile on my face to get on it & reflect on the past & what the future may look like thanks to a bicycle. Pretty special. Bikes RULE!! -Mike
These are actually both air spring! I considered setting the MRP up as the coil but never did. I still have it so maybe down the road. The broken one was 160mm, the new one is 140mm.
Fair enough! I just want a bomb proof, BMX/Klunker style bike to counter my bike full suspension! I think it'd be fun to ride at the skatepark that way too. That's 100% needed I rode this bike the other day & had NO front brake. Terrifying.
I recently built up a transition trans am a couple months ago, and like that bike more every time I ride it.
YES!!! That's a kick ass rig, too. Stoked you're diggin'.

Happened to me yesterday, but fortunately with tubes. Extra training 😂

@@JoyOfBike it’s so connected and leaves you without any room for excuses. It makes you work for it!
Fun video, keep it up. Yes to the gates belt
Thanks amigo!!
I have the belt & sprocket secured, now I just need cranks & spacers then it's big BMX bike mode!
Can’t beat a great looking hardtail. I am not sure about single speeding it, makes my knees hurt just thinking about it. Thanks for the video guys!

More hardtail content please! 🤙🏻
oh...don't tempt me with a good time!!

Nice. Why aren't bearing races machined into the fork like BMX?
That's a great question! Some brands may do it, but I've never seen it. The pitch of the race may vary by manufacturer unlike BMX...but I'm not confident in that.

I'm shocked that the mrp fork was performing so poorly! I love my mrp coil

I ride my hard tail more than my full sus. They’re timeless.

@@JoyOfBike your hardtail is hard core given the story behind it. I’d rock that thing with pride every time I threw my leg over it! 🤙
