Totally miss this bike now 😢. Glad it found its way to a good home. Excited to see what all you do with it man.
Knowing me, I'll probably be selling it within 2 months so there's always hope for you to get it back! Full circle 😂 thanks for helping me with the inside knowledge
@Evans MTB Saga turn it into a 1x12 and I'll buy it for more than what you payed for it used 🤣. Jokes aside, this bike is on my radar and I'd love to know more of your thoughts as you ride it more.
@@seanm5058 I have one that is 1x12 and has a 160 Yari fork practically new. If you want it, I can sell it to you. forgot to mention that lol.
@wanderer biz how do you like it? I just recently got a nice full sus but it's carbon and I'm afraid to ride it too hard and break it so I was looking at the one you have as a second bike.
@@dolphin-studio how much?

Maybe they have chicken legs? 😂 I thought the gearing was perfect uphill and down
😅🤣😂
i’ve been riding single speeds off and on for @ 20 years and that is the absolute truth
Took that from Seth Bike Hacks with his Syncr Pro.
Hardtails are fun. Having a FS and a HT always gives you options. Blues and greens are so much fun on a good HT.
But blacks and double blacks are more fun
@@jackcampbell6779 ha. Yeah. Just saying that blues and greens can get boring after a while riding them on a FS. A HT makes them fun again. Bentonville seems like a place you can benefit from both for sure.
Yeah I want to ride this more. It was fun and I love the simplicity
@@EvansMTBSaga simplicity is great. I ride my HT more than my FS for the fun factor. I even have a custom geometry HT on order. But I will always have a FS as a 2nd mountain bike for sure.
your blues must be easy, wouldnt want to ride our blues on a HT lol
Budget hardtails come with really heavy wheels if you are looking to save weight that would be where I would go first
Jesse’s shots came out mint! Love how it all strung together.
I love the quality you put on your video. It definitely shows so much effort put in to it.
Yes I totally agree
Oil doesn't come out of the lowers just because you don't have a rebound knob installed. There should be a crush-washer and footnut-bolt that forms a seal between the external and internal parts of the fork. The rebound knob is just a shaft that goes up into the hollow footnut-bolt, but it doesn't seal anything, that part is already sealed off.
"The bars are too wide so i take a spacer out." WTF!
Only adjustment I could make on the trail
Try increasing pressure in tires and the fork, and maybe try skinnier tires. Those will help it jump better. You could also consider a cockpit setup more similar to a dirt jumper vs. Trail bike. Other then that, I think you're pretty dialed, awesome build!
Nice! I’ve been thinking about getting a HT and slowly building it up. Glad you’re having fun with it.
Parts bin build!
I think it was on the video you revealed your Commencal Meta, but I recommended that you check out that type of bike, and I think its genuinely really cool that you listen to your viewers! And as a complete coincidence this was uploaded on my birthday, so thats a little accidental birthday gift, so thanks for the smiles!
Oh yeah I wouldn't be where I am today had I not listened to comments. You guys teach me so much and recommend so many great things. Happy birthdqy!!!
I got my Marin San Quintin hardtail last week, after a ride today, it’s amazing how much you can do that you feel like you need a FS for. Plus, the BB clearance and speed you get with them is insanely noticeable!!!
Getting a San Quentin very soon. It’s an awesome all around bike.
@@outsidebrendan the 3 is on sale; nothing but great things to say after today. Had the most fun I did in a long time. You’ll love it!
It's definitely the bike for people like us who feel like a full sus is wasted money on the kind of trails we ride. I have one with a 150mm fork for a taller stack and a softer landing on drops, and it rips through XC trails and gives me a great challenge on steeper stuff.
I built it with more compliant 28h rims and PNW everything so it doesn't chatter too much and it works wonders. The geometry on it is built for longer forks, and 140mm with a longer axle-to-crown or a 150mm fork is the Goldilocks setup for it. The ride position is super neutral and rewards you for relaxing instead of being super bent down aggressively. Love it.
Hope you enjoy yours even more!
how tall are you and what size did you get? just bought a SQ2 2023 M size, I'm 5'7" with 31" inseam, bike feels big when seating, like i'm stretching to the handlebars.....
@@renyrga5785 I’m 6’1. I ended up actually hating the XL frame after a month of riding lol. Sold it for the RSD Middlechild. Got that in XL too since they had a mega discount on it. Still a little too big for my height bit much smaller than the San quintin XL. Can’t believe Marin recommend that for my height. Definitely size down with their bikes.
If the rebound breaks, cut the Allen straight, and borrow a 3d printer to make a cap. Use a set screw to hold it in the print
I would get some faster rolling tires, that will make flow a lot more fun. Even heavier casing XC tires like continental raceking shieldwall. you can only get those in a 2.2 but that might be ok. I have them on my hardtail and they have all the grip you could ever need in hardpack stuff, but something beefier on the front wouldn't hurt. There's a reason why people use them on their DJ bikes. Still surprisingly useable for climbs in my experience.
I picked up a steel hardtail called a Production Privee Shan 27.5" a couple years ago. Super beat up, Fox 36 had worn stanchions and everything needed replacing. It's coming along nicely though and it's unbreakable.
Highly recommend to put new oil on the charger. Having the fastest rebound, setting for too long, can damage the internals and will burn faster the oil inside
Great job on doing split screen with the sponser, so many times I just fast forward, but this time I watched all the way through.
Maybe see how it feels with 2.6 inch tires, a little bit less mass and still lot's of tire.
That was a pretty creative fix with the fork
SS is the way to go! I convert my 26" pump track bike to a mini SS hardtail with chunky tires n shreds like hell in the loamy n muddy single tracks. 😁
If you want to use this bike on pumptracks and jump lined you should concider changing to faster rolling tires. It will shave off some pounds too.
You should try waiting for best priced used parts to put on the bike . If they got a problem and they need to be rebuilt it is content for your channel.
I've been looking for messed up parts! Haha. I'd love to restore a pros bike too
That is a fun looking build. Some more dirt jump friendly tires like 2.4 wide or less might make a big difference on jump trails
Looks great! You’re going to love the efficiency of the SS and I love the cleaned up magic gear setup without the tensioner. 👍
I'm ready to convert all my bikes to single speed now 😂 I like how it makes the rear end feel too
This bike might not be as good on the “smaller” jump lines or even at the pump track due to the long travel and slack HT. That’s really where a DJ shines but as you said it does get pretty limited for cost. I just picked up a older cheap DJ of FB market place awhile ago. I am not really good at jumping but it is definitely easy to ride “smaller” jumps compared to my enduro FS or enduro HT. Don’t ride it much and still haven’t taken to the pump track either. Which definitely proves your point.
Love my Dartmoor Hornet.
10spd 160 Fork. FUN!
I have hardcore hardtail too, its my favorite bike out of my two. in the fall race season I put a smaller rear tire and race XC on it. I recommend a smaller or less agro tire, and you may want to consider switching to like 28mm or 30mm rims.
Looks pretty similar to my Nukeproof I showed you a while ago! Absolutely gorgeous bike. Hardcore hardtails are the most fun kind of bike to ride!
Cheers bro!
Dude it's so fun. I love the single speed too. How good is your Nukeproof? I feel like doing a proper hardtail build and selling off my other bikes and keeping the enduro
@@EvansMTBSaga It's been incredible! It has the obvious disadvantages of no near suspension, but with the new Factory 36 up front it absolutely rips.
I ask because those frames are pretty affordable if I wanna build up another hardtail
@@EvansMTBSaga I'd say get one! They are super sweet rigs to build up. Would be funny if you built yours up to my spec haha
I like those tires. size matters 😉 I also like the one blue grip and the PNW bars to match. Now that you have it where it should be, sale it and get a ebike. 😎 I’m super ready for you to have maximum saddle time on a quality eMTB. Get a low power light weight and a extra battery. Trust me on this, you will love it.
Scratched bars and mismatched grips…DREAMS!
Hi Evan been loving the new videos recently, keep up the great content 😁👍🏻
I went and checked that rebound knobs on my forks are not loose. Thanks for the reminder!
Haha good call! I hope you're subscribed or they'll just pop right off next ride
Hard tails from the plus bike boom era are the bomb. Not fast but, Velcro like grip for days. Amazing. 😍
my favorite mountain bike is my 160 mm forked Santa Cruz chameleon single speed. You learn so much about reading the trail and maintaining flow on a SS HT. and then, when you get back on a geared squishy bike, everything is so much faster and easier. They also put the fun back in mellower trails that are boring on a modern trail/Enduro bike.
That's cool to hear that SS compliments regular riding. I'm looking forward to riding SS way more now. It's quite the experience
Specialized has 27.5x2.6 slaughters on sale and they are very fast rolling centers and hood corner knobs. I run them on my hardtail and love them. They are like $14 each right now.
How did you know what I bought already 😂
I’m rocking a Fuse on 29x2.6 fast rolling tires…..the little bit extra cushion is real nice through rooty sections and rock gardens. I recommend rev grips if you are going to be hitting long trail days or rough sections. That plus the big tires let’s me keep up with the enduro bros on the big mountain days.
Noice. Hardcore hardtails are epic. Just posted my sponsor video of my brand new enduro hard core hardtail and it shreds. Got to ride it today. You’re going to love it.
Love the new bike and excited for the build. Was really hoping for a San Quentin though.
I was in the works for getting one but it fell through. I felt a San Quentin 1 the other day and it was probably 36lbs. So I'm excited to have this Meta as my base
Since you anyway throw out the fork at one point, go for a smaller if possible with the frame, to make it more playful. Of course shorten the bars and get some faster rolling tyres on it to especially for the pumptrack. That should be enough to change the bike completely.
I was just down in Bentonville for the first time and I loved the jump line on all American at the start and jesse’s last stand!! Jesse’s last stand was super flowy.
if you're going to keep it single speed (which you should as single speed is brilliant) I'd replace the sprocket with a Gussett Double Six, the base is 7mm thick so far less hub body damage. I'm running one on my SS hardtail and it's absolutely rock solid.
Thanks for the comment! I have a grand idea about the SS set up and looking into building an actual SS rear wheel for the major benefits of the wide flanges
@@EvansMTBSaga That'll be interesting to see.
It would be so cool to see a van build and travel videos on the channel
I love my hardcore hard tail, Marin San Quentin 3. I think that it rips flow trails and big jumps!
Anyone else slightly down in the dumps with the dark and gloomy weather we have had here in NWA for like over a month!? I am used to riding 3 times a week and now once a week if I'm lucky. Come on, spring & summer!
I like the overcast because it's great conditions to film videos
@Evans MTB Saga very true but I guess I really meant the 15 to 30 degree weather with dark and gloomy lol plus it is decent kinda during the work week and crappy on the weekends.
There are forks on sale everywhere. You can get a zeb for under 500 bucks
It’s got 3 gears: Sit, Stand and Walk.
Smashpot the forks. And posssibly a FAST or Avalanche cartridge. I love my Smashpotted Fox 38's
You got that for a steal I sold my commencal meta frame for almost as much as you bought the complete bike for
one thing I don't like about rockshox forks is that allen key adjuster. It just seems like a really cheap thing for rockshox to do. i have a very budget $130 Bucklos Lutu fork and that has a better rebound adjuster then what rockshox has. I also don't like how the botom of some rockshox forks have that bit that is hollow, again it just makes the fork seem really cheap.
You made that fork service look so easy! 😳
Lowers are super easy to service
@@EvansMTBSaga I'm so keen to try it out!
this makes me want to make my Evil a single speed full suspension. Would absolutely shred my trails! Great vid as always. Keep the content coming.
Single speed is not good because they only have 1 gear ratio
@@wtfchazpwnt It's made for going downhill
Great video! Welcome to the hardtail club man 🤠 I wonder how long you will keep it single speed though 😅
I think the single speed is the most fun part about the bike. I'd convert it to 11s to sell though
i need to give you credit for how you do your ad spot. the only creator i dont skip the ad!
Thanks Dany!
I bought myself a Schwinn Axum when it was 50% off and converted it to a SS...no thing but the frame, rear axle and chain is stock at this point (bin parts other than the SS carrier & cogs), but the bike is pretty fun. To get up everything I am riding I am down to 21 / 34 oval.
Dang you must have some steep climbs! It's so fun building out a bike and wondering what's still stock. I think with one of polygons, all I had stock on the frame was headset spacers. Is the Axum your only bike?
@Evans MTB Saga no, it is my 3rd concurrently owned, out of many over just the last few years 😉. Love that it has room for two bottles inside. Honzo DL/ST, Timberjack, Fuse & Chameleon, all come with sliding dropouts (mass produced frames, more custom) but only the Fuse & Timberjack can do 2x bottles, which the freaking hot and dry SoCal summers taught me is a must for my rides. Will swap out the frame eventually if I get a deal on one of the above.
My FS is a modified Siskiu T8. The Fox 34 Rhythm on my axum was the T8's fork, stroked down to 120 with a new air spring shaft.
I’ve been wanting a sick singlespeed for a while. I keep watching facebook marketplace and as soon as I see one I will be getting it.
welcome to the hardcore hardtail club! My name is also Evan and i ride a Santa Cruz chameleon mx and i love it. Keep up the great content:)
I dig the meta man! Single speed looks really fun, i have been pondering the idea of doing a single speed shredder!
Oil can’t leak out of that bolt, the bolt holds the damper rod against the bottom of the fork the hole is just for the Allen adjuster
Makes sense now that you put it that way. Do you think it seals good enough?
A pair of Paul components hubs would be perfect for that bike
Dude I know! Ive contacted them cuz they didn't have 32 hole in stock, but I might go with 28 hole.
@@EvansMTBSaga I’m excited to see what you do with the bike in future videos
You should do a budget mtb camper van build series.
I've got the 2021 model and am looking at doing some component swaps on it once the old parts get smoked. Swapping from 12spd to 10spd (maybe even 9spd), changing the SRAM 2 pot Level brakes for something with 4 pots, and way later down the line I would like to get an Ohlins 36 to replace the RockShox 35 gold. The main thing to swap is the brakes. Levels have a horrible rep at the bike shop I work at.
Oh yeah 4 pots are awesome. I really liked the TRPs. Also have been a fan of Shigura
With those upgrades you'll have a super sick bike!
You can't go wrong with à meta HT 😉
Hey man one recommendation if you don’t want flats try tubles and cushcore
Evan the super slack head angle will mean that jumps won’t feels as good so maybe if ur getting a new fork get one with less travel
I was talking to @s14tat on my subreddit and I think I may swap the frame eventually to better suit my needs
Build it with common man parts. The high end is cool, but not what everyone is going to afford. You should build it with Amazon parts or something.
Oh yeah I'm going used for a lot of the parts
I got the '22 Meta HT/AM for long rides and the Clash '22 for fun. Commencal builds great bikes 😊 iam totally happy with those bikes and my next bike(s) will be from Commencal too 😁
I don 't really understand your fork problem. It doesn't looked that bad or bent. Dissassembling the damper side would reveal the problem plus you could perform an oil change.
The hole in the bolt doesn't meant to leak oil. That's where the rebound adjuster goes through.
The lack of oil in the lower is THE normal sign of the lack of maintenance.
The most dramatic fork rebuild I´ve seen!🤣
Hardcore Hardtail 🤘
Love that trail 💪
You should be able to buy the rebound adjuster?! In the UK TF tuned supplied me with a new rebound adjuster and bolt as I may have snapped it when going a bit ham putting the fork together in a rush 😬
Plot Twist, Evan has a stunt double! You’re riding is freaking awesome
Thanks Alexander! I appreciate the props.
I’ve had problems with those cheap rear cogs on single speed kept dropping the chain and eating shit because of it lol. Then I swapped to a quality Wolf tooth I believe rear cog and have no issues with the chain coming off
And I think my favorite gearing is 30 tooth up front and 18 I believe in the back, maybe it’s a 16 not sure .
the earliest I've ever been, love your videos
that bike is insane!
Haha Jeremy is hilarious 😂
Haha right. Comes back from a ride "honey, I scratched my bike, time for a new one"
i was hoping you were going to a single speed bike or dirt jumper wen i saw video i was so suprised
Disclaimer for anyone thinking this is a dirt jumper. It's not! Just like Seth's murder machine, this is just a single speed aggressive hardtail. Never try installing a smaller travel fork, you are going to ruin the whole geometry.
I about had a stroke watching the old seals getting hammered in. 😮
Why
That fork is a decent candidate for a damper upgrade.
New subscriber here ❤ Thank you for sharing this creative bike services and vlogs. Watching from 🇨🇦 Toronto. Your channel is awesome 🤙
Yeah if you have no oil in the damper the compression dial wont do anything :-)
A wise man once said: “On a single speed you never need to worry about being in the right gear cuz ur never in the right gear” 😂😂
wise seth
that was said long before Seth brought it up ;)
I thought the expression was “single speed, the wrong gear every time” 😂
Love the ideal of a flow/ jump hardcore hardtail. Don't know about a single speed tho. I hope you find out where the weight is. Nice thrash!
Single speed feels rad! Check back next week, I have some upgrades
I've got the same style of bike, single speed pipedream moxie hardtail with a 160mm fox 36. Super fun. I've done the great divide on it and raced enduro on it as well. A great jack of all trades master of none.
The bike looks fun!
Single speed is so fun!
Dude so much fun. I didn't really understand SS before, but it's an experience in so many ways
@@EvansMTBSaga at some point get a long carbon fork for it and try it rigid. It’s the pinnacle of SS riding to go full rigid.
Do feel bad that a new fork maybe required, never really liked single speed, Seth used to done this with the Syncr Pro asked him for advice on how to sell a used Gt (No Longer available), but have sold the bike without his help, and was upset with him. I am sticking to multi speed.
Go for marzocchi Z1 coil for your next fork
Coil???

If you really want a Jump line bike, USE A DIRT JUMPER pls. Super stiff frame and fork, 26inch wheels witch 4.5 bar air pressure. It is really worth it trust me
BTW kind reagrts out of Germany
For the fork I would have just contacted rockshock because they have had warranty issues with those forks and they have spare parts for that fork
I would have said get a canyon siched 720 make the suspension not as hard as people would put a bit grippier tires the long version and you have a dream
That sounds pretty cool! I wonder if anyone has done that
@@EvansMTBSaga I don’t think so since people just use it a fit jumper

Hey, I love your videos and am planning to convert my 2016 talon 3 into a single speed. I have ridden that thing to the ground . So, now i need to replace the forks, brakes and hubs but i wanna do it in a budget since if I get good parts for my 2016 talon 3 then the cost of the parts can quickly meet the price of a new bike. I don't want to spend more than 300 dollars and i tried looking at the used market but where I live , I can't find anything. So, what are your suggestions? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
i took my Growler to the rail yard and found it to be way too unwieldy there compared to my DJ
