For sure, but keep in mind that these patterns are very customizable. For example, you don't have to keep an alternating bass note, instead you can just keep the root of the chord or replace the single bass notes all together with a strumming pattern consisting of the same note values. Other tips: 1) make sure that you have the chords 100% down before even attempting the strumming pattern. 2) Play the song using whole note strums (1 strum per 4 beats) so you can practice the chord structure and vocal line independently from the rhythm. 3) Practice applying the rhythm to each chord individually, then practice holding that rhythm between chord changes. Keep up the great work, I know you're dedicated and that you will have some tremendous progress in 2020!

I 120% agree that this is an outstanding lesson. My question is: while the song is considered as an "easy" one, is it normal that it takes me days, well weeks of practice to obtain a decent (yet far from perfect) result? Something wrong with me?
I understand we're in the key of E. Could you please, Pretty please, explain how the G# 7th dominant chord fits into that progression? I love theory, where did the G#7 come from. Please help
The answer you seek is in “secondary dominants.” Basically you can play whatever dom7 chord is a 5th above the destination chord. So, if your chord change is Emaj to C#m, you can wedge a G#7 between them because it’s the secondary dominant above C#. It’s one of the most useful songwriting tricks out, and I gave a lesson on that very subject in the works.
Cool thing about the guitar is you can always simplify elements to meet your skill level. Start off just getting those chords down and learning to switch chords at the right time. I provide chord sheets and other resources at Patreon.com/Swiftlessons that will be helpful.
