    I gave up my apartment, bought a van, built it into a camper and live in it full time. I bought a Tenere 700 this year, the culmination of a two year plan to travel Mexico by motorcycle. I have been saving money for the past 6 months and I'm about ready to take off on my trip. I'm tired of the rat race, working just to survive, etc. I'm ready to see the world after 44 years of working just to pay the landlord, phone bill, and all the other stuff that comes from being a "good consumer." Life is too short to die in your hometown never seeing the world.

      @BernieRunns life is too short. We better enjoy it as we are still here. Go and travel and see the world. There's so much to see on this beautiful planet.

    There is a good reason you see so many new ADV bikes for sale with very few miles on them. Same thing with Harleys, I just purchased a 2 year old Harley with 780 miles on it at a 40% discount, $6900 less than what it sold for new.

    • @ADVDad-hw9ls

      @crashdsnowman1 we have to do our research before we make some big purchases. Some people get brainwashed with advertising and go get it, and then they realize it's not for them.

    I am on my second ADV bike after owning many different types of street motorycles and a few dual sports. I have taken 10 day trips which combined highway travel with dirt road travels. It IS hard work, and riding a heavy bike offroad with all the extra gear and bags to camp, etc makes it even more challenging. Every time I start off on an adventure I question myself. BUT, at the end of every adventure trip... the feeling and joy is indescribable. I know not every adv owner will experience this, and many will never travel off the beaten path but those that accept the challenge are usually rewarded.

      @@chas4life last weekend me and my friend we done 205 miles, most of it inside a national forest and we where getting in some trails very challenging, and in that moment like you said, I was wondering wtf I'm doing, why I'm getting myself into this. And I can tell you that im ready to go back there and try again 😆
      It's just an adventure

    +1 I cannot believe that so many BMW GS "World's Best Adventure Bike" were sold because people watched The Long Way Round & ignored the fact that "The World's Best Adventure Bike" BROKE THEIR FRAMES being used in a way they were supposed to do. No, they weren't "Overloaded", a passenger on the back would've been far heavier than the luggage they carried. Now people are finally waking up to the fact that the painfully expensive BMW GS they bought is just about useless off road, unless you are an expert. Otherwise you're going to learn how embarassing it is when the guy on the old, $2,500 KLR650 gets past you.....& he can pick his bike up when he drops it, you'll need help with your lump of a GS.

    • @ADVDad-hw9ls

      @dumptrump3788 you are absolutely right. There's no need to spend that much money to have an adventure ride. 2 years ago, I bought this super tenere in the used market for $5.5k, had 20k miles , now has over 40k miles, and is still going like a tank. I had to spend some money on gear and accessories, but it's still cheaper than the Gs

      And how much have you road a BMW? I have a 2024 Tenere 700 and a 2023 GS 1250. Both have there strengths and weaknesses it really comes down to what your gonna do with it. My tenere will stomp any KLR into the dirt but im not gonna put my wife on the back of it and travel across the county on it. The GS is hands down the best 2 up touring bike there is on the market i don’t care what anyone says. If they say different it’s because of there lack of experience riding one. I have been 25 motorcycles and have owned hundreds others over 35 years of riding experience. So trust me I’m not just shooting from the hip because I own only one bike and think it’s the best thing on planet earth. I speak from a lot of experience as well as running a business repairing and restoring vintage bikes.

    Well this ended way differently than I thought it would, but I hope this gets a lot of views. Too many people are obsessed with the fallacy of instagram and the fantasy of "world travel" and stuff. Even with unlimited "influencer funds" most people really don't want to go through the process for extended motorcycle travel. Probably not even a 3-5 day camping trip. You're right about the outdoor vs indoor type person for sure. I really thought this was gonna be about buying a used Tenere instead of a new GS. Liked and subbed.

      @@ADVDad-hw9ls Watching now. I've taken my tenere all over the country and through Atlantic Canada. It's a fantastic road bike and rarely needs a dirt nap. I wouldn't try to do any actual off-roading, but fire roads and what not are great. This is restricted by my skill level, of course.

    I’m a 20+ yeah veteran biker. I bought a Tiger 900 as a touring bike. The worst it’s ever seen or likely to see is some washed out and rutted dirt roads. If I’m doing anything more I’m on a much lighter 300L.

      @@ADVDad-hw9ls I have to admit something to you, funny enough we are talking about sportbikes and offroading... I have currently 2 bikes, one a mechanics queen perpetually in the shop Harley and a recent buy, brand new SV650. Just past break in. One route I take goes deep into the woods and strangely has a section near the end that is just a valley of gravel, then paved again. Relatively deep gravel, about 70 feet of it. Cross it pretty daintily on this thing first pass. Anyway, I'm a pretty decent sport rider and on the way back I saw a 25 mph sign come up, which, if it had been paved, would have been no problem. I thought the sign was signifying a turn, but it was a poorly chosen warning that the valley of gravel was coming up. I had no time to slow down, did the best I could, then relaxed and let it happen. Bike tore through the gravel, bars kind of wiggled slightly near the end, then blasted up and onto the tarmac. So, SV could definitely do that full time with the right setup. Lol.

    • @ADVDad-hw9ls
      @ADVDad-hw9ls  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Audfile 😆 I hope you didn't get hurt.
      Any mounded gravel on the sides can suck you in, while loose gravel can cause you slide off the road and into a slough. Riding on gravel sometimes feels like going over ice 😆

    My brother was part of the 2013 BMW R1200gs foto and video shoot to launch the new liquid cooled models, it took 65 takes to shoot the desert stunt riding, and they destroyed 3 bikes, so yeah never fall for those "adventure" advertisements you see, those riders are the best stunt riders money can buy, and the advertisement budget is in the millions, if you want to ride offroad buy a enduro offroad bike, if you like touring, buy a tourer
