I remember these amps they were killer heavy distortion. They followed the Peavey Ranger 212. Sounds great. I also like the amp in the room sound instead of miking it. That real sound
Sounds great. Very underrated amps. I have both the combo and the head version. For some reason, the combo outperforms the head to my ears. It also has a surprisingly good clean channel. With the EVH 5150iii Stealth 50W head, I dare say it’s one of the best amps I’ve played through.
I used to have the original head. Now I just have my combo and the II head. The combo is in between the original and the II. I much prefer the combo and the II to the original.
Yeh I've had both ...used the head with original 4x12 and my 67 marshall 4x12 sounds better with original cab but different, not worse, with the old marshall. I've still got my 5150 combo but I had it fitted with a bias knob and it makes the amp come alive and didn't regret it one bit. The great thing is I can plug in my 4x12 to the combo too and it is massive ...one of the all time great versions of a great amp.
I have that same amp and a 2x12 cab with T75s it sits on top of - I call it the monolith. I added some recessed side handles on the amp and took the casters off. I roll it around on a flatbed cart. One of the meanest rigs I've ever played.
I bought mine brand new when they first came out. Actually, I got the first one available from Bizzare guitar in Reno. I still have it and absolutely love it! I’ve got 5 other amps and the 5150’s just do it for me. My 5150III 50w Stealth quickly became my favorite, but the 5150 combo plugged into an Orange PPC4x12 sounds f’n amazing too…. 🤘💀🤘
The combos always had a bit of magic going on compared to the heads. The heads were magical in their own right but the combos just sound fucking good. From what I understand they're biased a little warmer from the factory than the heads were.
I've had both heads and combo... They're not biased warm tho ...its baised with a preset cap so run colder than normal so the valves last longer I guess. I still have my combo but had an amp builder fit an adjustable bias...so now it's it can be set for whatever valves I fit aaand I kid you not ,it sounds so much better now ...came to life.
Always had one of these, decided to get one of the new 6505 II 4x12 cabs to run it through and good lord it sounds absolutely tits especially with an EQ in the loop. Thats 6x12 inch speakers altogether, sounds massive.
Greg I know you no longer have the Peavey combo but I cannot get my lead channel to come even close to the thumping bass. Would a re-tube help? I shifted all the pre amp tubes around with no improvement. Would the 6L6’s do anything to the overall high gain drive? I just can’t get this sound from my combo. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for the info I’ll look into changing out the tubes and using these settings. Can I assume the Lead Pre is around noon and the Lead Post is around 1-2 for headroom levels
what's the scoop on those side handles? The dumbest thing about these amps is the fucking handles on top. It's like 80+ pounds... who is carrying that like a suit case? Mine has a single in the center on top, not even the double handle with one on each side lol
I'm sorry but I no longer have the 6505 +112 combo but i recorded some vids with the almost same eq settings... for me the 6505 is a little more harsh and tight but it lacks the lowend frequencies the 2x12 combo delivers...the 5150 combo with new tubes is a monster: the monolith of death!
@@greg24hoareau thanks for the quick reply!! Didn’t know you don’t have the 6505+ anymore. It’s ok cuz I chose to buy the 5150. Your vids are cool so keep up the great work. Btw i was curious why you turned the 6505 to a head and not the 5150? Are the speakers on 5150 good ?
@@WhoamI-ll7rk it's easier to turn the 6505+ into a head...And I wouldnt like to turn the 5150 into a head 'cause the eq is not in the front and I prefered to keep it like it was..
Stock speakers... the secret with this amp is to lower the trebles (form me 3,5) and krank the presence knob (at least 8 or 9 for bedroom volumes and 7 for gigs, before noon it does not affect the sound).

Ok first, new tubes is always a good thing but i think the secret of this combo lies in the presence knob ( before noon it does nothing)... you should better crank the presence and lower the trebles on this amp...try this setting: low 6,mids 2,5, trebles 4, presence 8,5 and résonance 7,5... for bedroom levels it's perfect for me...

Question I’m picking this bad boy for $580 without the pedal imo a great deal but does it comes with wheels and either way why did y remove them?
that tone is all i need
That's EXACTLY what my half-stack sounds like -- big, heavy, and crunchy!!!

The designer j.Brown said Eddie wanted the head mark 2 to be based on the combo sound which was tighter...

If you play a Peavey Wolfgang through that amp it's bananas. Delicious bananas.
I used to plug a wolfgang through it and I agree...sweet bananas!
A new level!!!!
In Flames! 🔥
every good rocker knows that you started with the intro of arch enemy
I would have said The Mirror (Dream Theater)!
👍 still haven't put the casters on mine. 😵
What are the settings at? Killer tone.
Lead pregain 4,5 bass 6, midi 2, high 3.5 res 7 presence 9 (for bedroom levels and 6 for gigs)
Hi, is this riff from 0:25 to 0:35 comes from some song? Great combo btw!
In flames -take this life
Sounded like a new level pantera
No boost? Sounds massive and tight.
No sir, just the guitar into the amp!
Like a chainsaw son
sounds sick. what is your Gain at?
Gain at 4,5...(lead channel)
@@greg24hoareau thanks

"Take this life"...IN FLAMES
Hopefully making the trade for my Marshall for one of these….

sounds awesome! is it really heavy to move around? it doesn't look too bad but it's hard to tell in a video
Sorry for the delay..yes it's à really heavy (weight) amp...its main default
47lbs I think but fit wheels and your laughing
Sounds mega dude 👌🏻 What are you playing?

Thanks, these are for some of these riffs metal riffs from bands like in flames, pantera, dream theater et some riffs of mine..
