Two things. First of, maybe this is slightly better when you add to it The One They Call the Witch and, the intro of this one, Moment of Truth; because Octopath music has the flavor of mixing intros with the bosses themselves, and this is the only case in game when the intro isn't one of the main character's preludes. Second, I applaud the recommendation and the actual reaction and analysis. Also, I highly suggest (not just to Atlas, but for anyone who reads this) to hear the unique boss themes from the Champions of the Continents mobile game, which is a prequel to the events of Octopath (it's japanese but some youtubers published the music with no much problem). There, not only the individual songs are as great as in Octopath, but also has some kind of storytelling between the dungeon theme, the unique prelude melody for each one, and each combat phase.
I agree with you. The Champions of the Continent soundtrack is spectacular! I really like the fame route music. The theme of Agustus (final route boss) is very epic and dark.
I played this game for about a few hrs into the main story. I got to get back into it, the OST is literally one of the greatest things about this game.
Atlas you really should have done it with One They Call the Witch, wouldn't have made the time too long and the build up and the impact would have been so much better. The One They Call the Witch is basically the first part of the song with the intro that builds up and Daughter of the Dark God the second part is the climax. Really a missed opportunity. But regardless you REALLY need to cover more music from this game because it is so underappreciated.
I really hope to see you tackle the music in Octopath Traveler 2 as well at some point, your analysis are such a joy to watch! Thank you for the amazing content
It is not insane to link these two composers. Nishiki probably played Final Fantasy when he was younger, and he also works for Square - the same company Nobuo Uematsu worked for. On top of this, Octopath Traveler is a game that is a huge callback to those SNES Square JRPGs. You should listen to the entire soundtrack. It's banger and masterpiece after banger and masterpiece. One of the best video game soundtracks I have ever heard. I probably listened to it 100 times.
That little part at 6:32 instead sounds like Linked Horizon, the same kind of notes that were in Serpent Eating the Ground... Then listening to the various music ascents I expected the singer would reach the high A# at the climax
Idk how reccomendations work, but you should totally react to Ashes of Dreams from NieR. There's several versions (all sung in different languages), but the English version has great lyrics to go along with it.
This whole game has one of the best OST I ever had the opportunity to listen to. It really gets you in the mood. Gotta point out that also the voice acting is extremely good.
There's something really cool that Nishiki did with this soundtrack. I didn't really get it when I played the game because I'm not so musically inclined, but I saw a TH-cam video on it. I'll probably find the video and post it in a reply because I think you'd find it fascinating, but to summarize: First of all, a bit about the structure of the game for context. Octopath Traveler is a game which is made up of 8 different stories of 8 different characters. Each character's story has 4 chapters, and each chapter has a boss fight. For these bosses, there are 3 boss themes (Every Chapter 1 uses Decisive Battle, Chapters 2 and 3 use Decisive Battle 2, Chapter 4 uses Decisive Battle 3)... Except Nishiki didn't make things so simple. See, every character has their own character theme. Nishiki took every character's theme and turned it into a unique introduction for boss battles in their own chapters. In a sense creating 24 unique boss themes. But this is impressive because Each intro is incredibly unique in order to match the character theme, and they're all very different from the boss theme they lead into. Different keys, tempos, and even time signatures. Nishiki had to manage to transition from intro to actual boss music without making any of it sound jarring, and he does so brilliantly. The video I mentioned goes into details with examples of how he did it
Nishiki doesn’t just reference Uematsu in this piece; he quotes him directly. The cello/guitar part you identified as Uematsu-influenced is pulled almost directly from Dancing Mad, and the ascending choral scales leading into the vocal solo are note for note from FFI’s battle theme. Nishiki is purposefully calling out the themes from the first and last pixel games in the FF series.
Thanks for reacting to this song! Though I do wish that if you were going to react to both songs of the fight in separate videos that you’d do them in order starting with The One They Call the Witch since that’s phase 1. You said the song started with high energy and I was just thinking “Well it IS phase 2 of the fight.” Lol
Bro!, If you're reading this, you should make a reaction to weight of the World (The end of YoRHa) OST from nier:Automata! This ost is the one with which the game ends after sacrificing your saved game data in exchange for helping others to be able to finish the game! It's a very sad thing but I swear the ost is a masterful piece! Greetings from Mexico, I like your videos
I've been waiting for this theme!! I wish it would've been with the technical phase one of the fight for direct comparison but that's another video to look forward to :)
Loved the video! I've never played the gamer personally but the music is really good! You've done a breakdown and reaction of a Risk of Rain song before and i would love if you did an analysis of a Risk of Rain 2 song! If I could recommend a song from Risk of Rain 2 i would suggest maybe "…con lentitud poderosa" or maybe "The Raindrop that Fell to the Sky" both are very beautiful pieces and i think you would like both of them a lot! But thanks for all the videos :>
Day 6 of requesting House of Sacred Remains from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Beautifully atmospheric level track and one of my fave's from video games in general. It'd be awesome to hear what you think of it.
This game have such a rich and fantastic OST, I did not enjoy the pace of the game at all, but the OST is such a masterpiece.

Hi! I hope you are super good. I've been following you for a long time on your TH-cam channel and it would be amazing if you would react to the music of the final boss "ALMIGHTY BHUNIVELZE" from Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns. It has no waste. It is beautiful and very epic. It would be very good content for a new video on your channel to react to that topic. An illusion would be seeing you react to that! And surely many of your subscribers will love it and you too! ... Thank you very much for all your content!!
Octopath Traveler in a nutshell: + Amazing soundtrack + Great gameplay + Great boss battles + Great exploration + Nice character variety - Trash writing - Extremely difficult true final boss that will make you redo 1-2 hours should you fail
Though with the right set up you can easily basically one shot phase two, this set up is also really not hard to pull off and you dont need to be max level or anything.
The writing is problematic in that the writers had to cater to the multiple storylines of eight separate main characters and were thus limited in their interactions (in a scripted "choose your own adventure" kinda way) instead of concentrating their focus on a single or pair of main characters like a more straightfoward RPG would do. I can forgive the writers for that given the time constraints and monumental effort involved in writing dialogue combinations for so many main characters. The possible combinations for so many characters talking to each other are a lot!
@@Hoppo_ Probably a very specific setup. For me and most people who figured it out ourselfves it was a very long and hard battle that required at least a few attempts.
como siempre este tipo no tiene idea de lo que escucha, si sera pro respecto a lo que es musica pero este tema no queda bien si lo escuchas por si solo, debes escuchar primero the one they call the witch y luego daughter of the dark god, si no no es lo mismo ._.
Yes, Octopath Traveler, finally ! There's so much insane OST's in this game !

I agree that this is one of the times where it feels like the two songs are really meant to be played right after each other. Like phases of a song.
I agree with you. The Champions of the Continent soundtrack is spectacular! I really like the fame route music. The theme of Agustus (final route boss) is very epic and dark.
Nobuo is a great inspiration for new composers, and with the style that Octopath traveller transmits, it fits perfectly!
This game has some insane songs...
Octopath Traveler is one of my Favorite RPG. The Soundtrack is Amazing and I love it. Thx for reating to it. 👍
"is Insane"
...there's no better way to describe OT soundtrack, is insane!
There’s so many gems in this OST but I’d have to say the best battle theme is they who govern reason
