I can't argue with your comments on the absurdity of liquor laws in the US. I currently live in a state where the brands that can be sold are dictated by the state (plenty of Diageo brands are available...I wonder who is getting a kick-back?), as are the prices. Fortunately, they do allow you to receive liquor purchased out of state to be sent to your address.
Thank you for reviewing this. I have seen Blacm Friday at auction for a few months but had no idea about it. This review definitely helps clarify it for me. Thank you 🥃
Got these from 2018 to 2024. The 2023 was a 16 YO Caol Ila and the 2024 a 15 YO Glenkinchie and both were fab. Will have to crack open the 2021 bottle now!!
I have purchased bottles in auction in the past. Pre COVID. Shipping costs are now basically prohibitive. A £100 bottle turns into £200 with the shipping. I can no longer do this. If I can string together several bottles it reduces the shipping but not too much.
It's not any better on the EU mainland; 9% + ~3 euros as Comission's usually fair, but paying 35 or 40 euros per bottle for delivery makes no frigging sense! The auction house gets most of that for sure as there's no company charging even half that for delivery within the EU. There's no honest transparancy whatsoever.
My USA state allows online retailers to ship alcohol to us. I never looked into local whisky auctions and if they would be allowed to ship to us. Will have to do some research.
The UK domestic buyers profit from Brexit for sure. Except for special bottles, we in the EU are not buying anymore from UK Auctions. Importtaxes and shipping is preposterous.
It’s these types special bottles are really good to look out for. Both in retail and auctions. They really do put the “special” in special edition. Some Feis Ile bottles could learn a thing or two 😉
Hi Ralfy, I have never heard of Standard Oil being behind prohibition before. Makes total sense having lived in the US my entire life 64 years, I have learned that nothing happens in this country that does not help a billionaire.
Events in recent years have shown that more and more frequently the conspiracy theorists are proving to be conspiracy analysts. 😉 This one really does sound like a lovely dram - congrats on the score!
I read Billionaire's vinegar years ago and it was on you, Ralfy. On your recommendation, indeed. I also went bankrupt on whisky auctions. But it is on me. On me entirely.
Omg ralfy I can remember buying a coal Ila g&m from the whisky exchange! Years ago best whisky I’d ever had! How times change you couldn’t bye a 22 year old single malt in any shop or whisky shop for £70 well done you! Mite have to try the auctions!
Yeah mine was a whisky exchange exclusive 12 years old 56.2 the cask strength collection I think it was called ralfy reviewed it at some point! He said it was an old school whisky that he could hug! Lol 😂
Great seeing you enjoying this Ralfy! Was slightly surprised you didn’t mention lack of information on bottle regarding UCF/colouring, any particular reason for this other than it being a banger?
Cheers 🥃
Certainly hard to find deals on bottles in auctions here in the US. Don't get me started on absurd shipping laws and costs for the bottles. It's a joke really. The "good" auctions know they are good and charge way too much in commission to both the seller and buyer. Takes the joy out of a win when you pay another 40% or more in tax, shipping and fees.
Love when whisky goes the distance in one cask.

Go Buckeyes
Ralphy’s nostalgia teletransports us to the nineties. Whisky has its powers ❤

Thanks for sharing your joy and excitement. Wonderful review.
Cheerio from a pat-pal in Germany
We need auctions here in Chile!!!

Very interesting, not many auctions here in Perth Australia, so yes...interesting

That Glenburgie was delicious

So happy for you! You managed to pick up a stunner for a bargain! Sipping a 14 year old Balmenach from SMWS while watching. Lovely bourbon oak quality

I had a similar price for a 29 bunnahabhain 'single malts of scotland' bottle. Must be getting on for 15 years ago now though.
The good old days ha

Love a "mysterious bottle"
Why did they make the 2021 edition 22 years old? Why not 21 years???

I was going to order 4 tequila shot glasses,s and 2 Trudeau oxygen wine glasse,s this weekend.
Love your non conformist approach
70 pounds is a bargain!
add tax, and postage... a bit less of a bargain....but still ok for a 22Y whisky
