Thank you Ralfy. I’m someone who has 190 bottles of single malt and still consider myself a novice but I do take your advice and stay away from the drams you discourage. I too only pick up a bottle if it says no chill filter and only natural colour. I spend at least an hour a day researching on line and enjoying one dram a night, sipping for the hour to allow oxidation . So keep up the good work and watch out for conspirators, Slainte!

I went to Glenturret distillery last year looking forward to seeing the place and booked onto their £100 'Whisky Makers Tour' thinking it would be a great experience, to my disappointment I was took around with a large group of people who had paid for a basic tour where we only got shown one of their stills and on asking to see the warehouses was told that "you can see them on a private tour" for an exorbitant amount of money. This was followed by a dram of their basic whisky and then a trip to their shop where we recieved what felt like a sales pitch description of all their standard bottles.
I thought maybe the blending experience at the end which was only for the more expensive tour would be better but no, 5 whiskies that were all 5 years old or younger, not cask strength and only 100ml to take away, a complete rip off and I don't recommend their tour at all!
Unfortunately I was given the impression that the new owners of Glenturret have aspirations of trying to be more like brands like Macallan and 'premiumise' themselves with prices jumping significantly every year now, they're too expensive and I personally won't be buying any of their official bottlings any more.
Talking to the choir here. Yes so many consumers are asking for transparency yet many distilleries scof at their customers and continue to do what they want because there are so many inexperienced drinkers that settle for what they are offered and sit silently and think everything is okay. I've been drinking for a long time and have rethought my whiskey choices I'm in America so forgive my spelling but I look for quality over quantity by a lot at my age. It does make a huge difference. Enjoy!!

Quality rant Ralfy. I come to expect this from someone who has passion and enthusiasm allied to a knowledge of the whisky industry and its practices. Whilst this is undoubtedly your personal opinion, it is always delivered non-chill filtered and cases like this, with plenty of colour.......long may this continue friend 😺. Slainte mhath! 🥃

It would be great if you have this conversation with the distillery and ask why they would not add the information on the bottle. There surely must be a reason.

Because they had a nice tea room 😳…….😂 I love these rants. Unfortunately it’s not just the scotch whisky industry that deserves its customers wrath these days. I also wondered where those bottles were getting crammed for a second 🤣 keep up the great content Ralfy, you’re one of the very few reasons I keep TH-cam 🥃

I could read it pretty easily. At least they disclosed that info somewhere on the packaging. Huge step above the majority. So good to see them not only doing NCA and NCF but also disclosing that they do.

Great rant, Ralfy! I feel every word. Guide at this distillery on Skye belonging to this huge company got realllly angry when I refused his order (!) not to take any photo at all in the still room. Got 1cl of their cheapest NASty stuff at the end. Charged 10£. Horrible.

Totally agree, even though Ardbeg has crazy prices on special releases and way too many releases. I will never forget the experience of being at the distillery and chatting with one of the workers there who saw that we really enjoyed the whisky flight and then gave us wee bottles of the 10 year old along with mini glencairns with the instruction to drink it on the pier since she thought that was the best place to drink it. I have to agree with her.

Macallan havent got any better. Entry to the distillery is by appointment only now. Tried to visit last year on the passing. The place looked quiet, only the odd porsche or bentley in the car park. I was met by a man in tweed and tartan in the car park who asked if i had an appointment and when i said i didnt turned me away. Drove round to aberlour, glenlivet and glenfarclas who were very welcoming. Couldnt try anything as i was driving but the welcome from those were awesome. Ill never buy a Macallan again
The only whisky I have an emotional connection with is Dartmoor; it is made in South Devon, where I often holiday, and it's a beautiful whisky.
Ralfy on a roll today, made some great points, ribbed a few distilleries, and was accurate as always. Keep it up!

If you blind test 5x whiskies can you identify, age, region, barrel type and strength? Give it a score and compare to your previous score.

Honestly I don't even know why I watch anymore, because everything has gotten so expensive that I hardly buy anymore. I'm glad someone commenting here is enjoying Kilkerran 12, or whatever. I had one bottle years ago, and I won't be buying it again at current prices. So many bottles fall into that category now. Meh..."The world is a vampire..."

Hi, Ralfy! After your last distillery watch video (the second part of the G's) I got locked out of Patreon. Next time read the box before you review! It doesnt matter if its written on the label or box (don’t flanel with the contract etc) you need a new pair of glasses ralfy
