Sean, Just a fantastic demo. Just received the V2 El Capistan and was a bit surprised to find that simply adjusting the pedal to a particular demo setting was not the whole deal. I have a BYOC analog delay (bucket brigade delay) that I built years ago and the astonishing thing is that pedal sounds like dirty heaven for almost anything I play. Am finding that certain progressions are really required to bring out the best of some of these beautiful settings. Have duplicated your lines on Old Tape Echoes and am starting to branch out. This is a really amazing pedal and I so much appreciate your demo to show some of the hidden magic.

Just sold my Time Line because after5 years I don't use half of it and hard (for me) to tune in. Masterful playing and great demonstration of the effects. I've been looking for something to replace the Timeline. Will check this new version El Capistan.
Howdy there - you are most correct that Pete is indeed a true genius, but he's actually a DSP guy - while another co-founder (Dave Freuhling) is the firmware badass, our other co-founder and CEO Gregg Stock is the analog/electrical genius. It's pretty remarkable to have those three guys at the helm, indeed.
I had a hint I might like this pedal as I love tape echo (I use the tape setting on my TC Elec echo a lot). After watching this vid, I just have to get this - eventually.. maybe sooner (and keep the regular echo). Love the age of tape function, the works.
That first guitar riff example that he is playing here is the same sound and same melody as the song Millimilinary by the Cocteau Twins. CT did some amazing tunes such as The High Monkey Monk, Bluebell Knoll, Pink Orange Red, Serpenskirt, Violane, etc. Their album Head Over Heels is classic shoegaze.
Wow! Absolutely amazing! I've been wondering for weeks what purpose the Strymon El Capistan would serve me, but the opening minute or so of this video, helps me to understand . . . just a deep, cavernous, 3D sound, very reminiscent of sounds from the solo works of the late James Wilsey, who performed the guitar on the famed studio recording of Wicked Game for Chris Isaak. He was a friend, a true confidant, and a tremendous talent. Thanks for enlightening me on the many virtues of the El Capistan. 👍 However, I will take a moment to add a smidgen of the obvious . . . that when you're using an amp modeler (Iridium), and three stacked overdrives (Sunset + Riverside), its impractical to attempt any accurate extrapolation of what this would (or might) sound like, in a live (real world) signal chain or platform.
Thanks. Can you tell us what the secondary (hidden) functions were in these examples? It'd be very helpful to understand the pedal sounds presented here. Thanks.
Hi there - all six of these sound sample videos had the secondaries set to their default positions, so only the main controls were used to craft the sounds. Hope that helps!
I jus found out about Strymon 2 months ago, bought El Cap and Sunset and even got my friend a second hand El Cap, wish I could trade in for this , really need midi and presets.
Hello 👋 thank you strymon for these audio examples ! Is the El Cap V2 compatible with the regular Multiswitch (not Multiswitch plus) to recall presets like on the Timelime ?
@strymon does this one got absolutely the exact same sound and feature of the original ? I like the improvements you have bring into this one but the original one was heaven and I don’t want to miss it
From all the videos I watched so far, there is absolutely no differences in sound mentioned, the only differences are Spring is now in front instead of a secondary option, MIDI + USB + mono/stereo switches on the back
Yep - we made sure not to change anything that would fundamentally affect the sound of the original pedal. The delay mix knob and Spring reverb knob are now completely separate, so you can get a lot of spring verb with little or no delay, which wasn't possible previously. If you loved the original El Cap, you'll love the new one even more.
@@strymon does that mean that the spring reverb now effects your dry signal and not just the repeats? Or is it still only on repeats but you can now have quiet repeats with a lot of reverb? Not sure I understand you here.
Just wanted to update this to make sure you are aware that the Mix knob on the new El Capistan actually goes from 100% dry to 100% wet. With the Mix knob fully clockwise, you will only hear delay repeats and reverb, and zero dry signal. Hope this helps!
Thanks for getting back to me. You guys are awesome. Yep. I understand what you’re saying. But if you’re using a parallel wet/dry rig, you need the dry signal killed even when the pedal is off. That and with mix 100%, there’s no master volume to set the overall level of the delay.
