We need a Kyle Rayner omnibus. I already bought the compendium, and the 2 trade paperbacks from a few years back but come on DC, Ron Marz and Darryl Banks/Romeo Tanghal were at their absolute peak for that run. When I was a second grader in a new town and my dad moved out, my I found solace in those GL issues. His ongoing battles with Major Force were EPIC!!!!!
I’m so happy they flipped those pages with Black Canary against the biker gang! That was the main reason I kept my older slipcase edition of the collection and never switched to the deluxe edition (the deluxe used the same scans as the absolute). Now I can move on from both the slipcase and the standard size hardcover with Grell’s issues, since the Omni collection has even more issues! Thanks for the review, Omar!
The colors for Neal Adams portion of the GL/GA issues were recolors from the 1980's. DC has been using those versions ever since. They were initially recolored at the time to take advantage of the 7 issue baxter reprints at the time. Trying to take advantage of the new paper then.
This is really cool that they're showing love to the Denny and Neal Bronze Age era. As many have already said, I would love if DC released a Batman by Dennis O'Neil Omnibus set. It's been my most wanted omnibus for years.
@deathmonger183 That's just a reprint of the Neal Adams Omnibus, which is awesome and I already own it. I'm talking about a complete Batman by Dennis O'Neil Omnibus. So every issue of Batman, Detective, Legends, Demon Trilogy, The Man Who Falls, etc. that he ever wrote.
Great overview, Omar. So glad to see the actual cover is not that lame one with Sinestro in space that is on Amazan, In Stock Trades, etc. This one is really cool! I agree that the old black guy should be calling out Green Arrow, Batman, or other street-level heroes, not an inter-galactic hero. How would the old guy know who and what color skin the aliens had, anyway? It's not like GA's exploits were on the evening news. I'm just excited to be getting 1300 pages of 1970's DC and with a stack of letters pages! Gives me hope DC is ramping up their bronze-age releases.
I think we should get batman bronze age omnibie, and Detective Comics Omnibie collect all of it like they did with the brave and the bold regardless of creator.😊
Thanks for the overview, Omar! Wow, that's a lot of stuff that should be worth reading. The one with Roy Harper being a junkie must have been revolutionary at the time. Is that why he's called Speedy? 😉 But bad jokes aside, I wasn't originally planning to buy this one, but now I'll try to negotiate with my wallet about it.
@ Not really. DCs Silver Age material was (as a general rule) not very serialized. In this case, there is probably even less of a need, because the Adams/O’Niel run (which is about a third of this volume) takes a major change in direction. Some of the later material in this Omni might refer back to some Silver Age material… but DC was pretty good at summarizing what you needed to know back at that time.
I will probably buy this just for the backup flash stories, I have deluxe editions of Hard Traveling Heroes and Grells Space Traveling Heroes. Neal Adams was and is one of my heroes
I have the hardcover of the Adams stuff and the Hardcover which had most of the Grell stuff. I am topping this up by buying back issues of the later Grell issues. I was tempted by this Omnibus but I think I will stick with what I already have.
Omar:🤔I trust your opinion! : Please, Who are the artists and writers on the last two/ thirds of the Omnibus? - Primarily O’Neil and Adams? ✌️ Or primarily other writers and artists? Giordano and Grell“? - I honestly didn’t recognize the latter name so I’m just presuming he is not A Neal Adams - Not that many people are , right? :) I bought the Absolute of the first third of the Omnibus. I’m Not getting rid of that :) So do you feel the last two thirds of the omnibus are worth me buying it ?
Yeah the there was a GL/GA: Space Travelling Heroes HC just a few years back. That only had issues #90-106. So like another 3rd of this book hasnt been reprinted.
Because just the Batman and detective comics issues alone would be about 60 issues. Then you have the demon trilogy graphic novels, all the stories from legends of the dark knight, crossovers and all sorts of other Batman stories he’s written over time. Also it would be all over the place because his stories were so spread out.
@@shengcerO’Neil and Adams did like 13 issues of Batman together so it wouldnt be a big Omni, Denny should have his own Omni considering he wrote some of the best Batman stories (most without Adam’s)
I got the Green Lantern/Green Arrow: Space Traveling Heroes hardcover from 2020 also (reprints Green Lantern #90-106). Still have not had the chance to read it yet. Little disapointed this Omnibus collects more GL issues going up to GL #123 and other content as well. Don't like double dipping either. Already have the GL/GA: Hard Traveling Heroes as the two volume softbacks from the early 1990s and also the Absolute slipcase. Wish DC was more consistent on how they tackle their reprint collections. This is just a bit annoying.
@ Yeah, I read or heard Batman was recolored and the green lantern/arrow absolute too. I think I recall Neal Adam’s was the one who worked on them but people didn’t like it. I heard you noted the difference in paper between absolute and this new omni. I think I’ll watch the video on a big screen and make my decision. Did you like the colors or noted something strange?
@@andresrienzi8518 I have the original slipcase hardcover but I didn't upgrade to the Absolute Edition because I heard it was recoloured. I always prefer the original colour, my Batman by Neal Adams was recoloured and doesn't look as good as the originals!
@@Frank-Einstein-Madman that was Neal Adams trying to do the "George Lucas special edition touch" . He thought about recoloring to make them look better. My copy is on the way! I will say that Neal Adams himself said that Hal wasn't really that conservative, just more of an establishment liberal while Ollie was more radical and anti-authority. He compared them to himself and Denny O'Neil, respectively.
The Neal Adams artwork is absolutely gorgeous but Denny O'Neill's writing was as atrocious as it could possibly be. He was so determined to get his social commentary across that he did it in an incredibly ham fisted way from start to finish. That panel of the elderly black man is a perfect example because Hal had saved Earth many times and he didn't just save it for white people but for everyone. But Denny leaves him speechless and throughout the run he reduced Hal to a weak-willed loser who needed Ollie to teach him how to think and what to do. For me, those comics are unreadable because of the writing and it's a shame because Denny squandered some of the most beautiful art to ever grace the pages of a comic book.
Are most of the stories here have a social justice component? I’m interested to read it on that front, although I’m sure there might be some tales that are cringy based on today’s standards. 😂

Great review, lovely to see that they have included the letters pages, one of things I miss with the DC omnis along with the extras (inked pages etc)
You are correct. ."Space Traveling Heroes" was the title of the 2020 hardcover edition that contained issues 90-106 of the GL/GA series.
Perhaps one of my favorite releases this year.

I’ve never read any green lantern and minimal green arrow but i know that this omnibus is an essential buy for the Neal Adams art alone.
Green arrow's omnibuses by mike grell are awesome ! You should take a look
Beautiful Neal Adams artwork. Not a huge fan of the stories, but you can’t deny their importance and influence.
Most anticipated DC omni in a while! Only Superman Triangle Era comes close. This is so big for me lmao
I grabbed the DCBS exclusive... can't wait to read!

Great stuff from growing up! Got a spot on the shelf waiting!
Love this! I’m sure, I wasn’t the only one who owns the Absolute thinking, “What’s else was there?”
I've never read this material before and I love both characters! Waiting for it to be shipped out.
This series sounds awesome, when I get through my to read pile I want to check this out
So much green in this book. If they throw Hulk in it I'll join the Green Peace... And listen to Green Day...
I hope DC releases more omnibus from 70s/80s. GL and GA aren’t my favorite characters but this looks fantastic.
That cover is amazing. Glad they stop doing the plain black covers.
