  • Milwaukee transfer pump works great for pumping oil and diesel fuel. Milwaukee builds pump with Nitrile impeller which has an excellent resistance to oils. I've pumped hundreds of gallons of oil, diesel, and even gasoline thru the pump and impeller still looks and works like new!

    Be aware that this thing is not sealed in the vertical position and liquids can drip down into the electronics when you have it positioned vertically like in the video. It has weep holes on the underside so that when it's used horizontally it won't reach the electronics. I found this out the hard way and had to take it apart and replace an internal fuse.

    Thanks for the review, exactly what I needed to know. Gonna pick one of these up for pumping oil. Just did some service work on a pipeline job, and at -33C even with the equipment running at high idle, the engine oil was barely warm enough to drain. This pump would speed things up so much! Thanks again

    Another excellent video, thanks! One exception to pumps which only use a rubber impeller is Jabsco; they use nitrile impellers in their bilge pumps, since boats can end up with all kinds of stuff including oil or fuel down in the bilges. Reasonable prices and they have some models with brass or bronze pump bodies instead of a plastic. Jabsco has been around for years, another reliable company.

    I use my Milwaukee transfer pump for glycol and I’ve never had a problem. If I am close to a water source I’ll flush with water for a few seconds to purge out the hoses and pump itself. This pump kicks ass for a lil unit 👍

    Just what I wanted to see struggled today trying to pump 100L of cold gear oil into a piling rig today gave up with my drill pump had to result to a very slow poor into a small funnel taking nearly 3 hours. 😩 good to see the flow isn’t to much as well as filling reducers and track motors if I pump to fast it will blow out the hole.

    I'm a field service generator tech for Cat. I bought my M18 pump 2 years ago. I've only used it for coolant. Never ran anything else in the pump. It can move 110 gallons of coolant pushing from the bottom up in maybe 30-45 minutes. I will have to time myself next time. I noticed my pump one day about a year ago was pumping weird, I found one of the impeller fins was missing. It pumped out 110 gallons but going back in with the new it got almost to the bottom of the first drum and wouldn't pump anymore. I replaced the impeller and bought a spare. It's been fine ever since. It's odd that mine broke on just coolant!

    I have a pump like this and I run a truck repair service. Motor Oil and Diesel I have no issue with. I know the pump wheel is nitrile coated which is great, not sure what kind of seal is on the pump shaft to the motor. I has lasted a year with no issue. I would worry about solvents or alot of gas. There again it has worked thus far.

    If you're warrantee is done, you should put a plug on it and have a drop cable that connects to it with a momentary switch like a winch. You can lay under a vehicle and pump it and shut it off as soon as you are full vs having the pump near you to hit the switch on and off. Should be able just to tap into the existing wires without bypassing the factory switch. Have the drop cable on a plug to disconnect if you don't need it for a certain job.

    Great news, thanks for the update. I was one of those warning about possible issues. Yes, nitrile and Viton are the rubbers of choice for petroleum. I didn't know what these were made of. Did the Grainger site ID the rubber? There's no test like a long term field test. I know your eyes will roll on this part, but what about the shaft seal? The reason I'm so wary is that I build spray systems. We started off with off the shelf pumps and found that some wouldn't last a week before impeller or shaft seal failure pumping pesticides cut with both water and mineral oil. We started ordering pumps with Viton seals and stainless impellers(for our centrifugal and rotary vane pumps) and haven't had to replace one for a seal or impeller failure since.
    I still won't be using one of these for gasoline because of the brushed motor and confined motor housing that could trap vapors. With oils and diesel it's not such a big deal. With gasoline it's, "Are you willing to bet your life on it." But that's just me.
    Thanks again. Great update!

    • @tetradgroup

      I hauled fuel for a living and every pump and hose is wire wound and grounded for a reason.

    • @mikemorgan5015
      @mikemorgan5015 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@abibodlogistics Look for systems and components specifically designed for gasoline and diesel transfer that are rated accordingly. There are issues with fuel transfer that the average person wouldn't consider, like static electricity. Petroleum products can produce a lot of static electricity when moved against certain materials. They must be properly grounded and designed to dissipate electrical charges and be made of non sparking materials.

    If you would have heated the gear oil a little, would it flow easier and faster with less cavitation. Another observation , if the pump were laying down as compared to standing, wouldn’t this also help with the ease of transfer???

    Im looking at doing mobile oil changes with this pump instead of buying an air powered lube skid to mount in my service van. Could i run this pump at the end of a 50’ reel for recovery? Im thinking if i had two separate pumps for recovery and new oil, i could install an in line flow meter to measure how much oil i pump out. And for recovery just drain into a pan and suck up into the recovery tank. Only thing im on the fence about is if i have oil tanks on a pallet in the truck i would need a long hose to reach the truck im working on. I guess i just need to buy one and test how long a hose i can pump 15w40 and still maintain a decent GPM.

    How would you recommend going about cleaning the pump before switching fluid types? Say your pumping diesel into a tractor and then need gas into ATVs
    Would you say before pumping the gas into the atv just prime it by pumping some gas out on the ground first make sure all the diesel is out of the system?

    • @JohnTheMexicanic
      @JohnTheMexicanic 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm looking for an answer too but my only thought of the cleaning process when switching fluid types is maybe running two quarts of degreaser and a quart of water then water for 3 to 4 mins. I'm a diesel mechanic so I'd be using it for diesel and coolant only but im thinking of cleaning it out that way after use. Or maybe even just water
