Pretty dog and that was a massive hunk of walnut. So pretty. We've got a black walnut tree in our yard that we're working on milling up soon. You're welcome to some pieces, Bob.
I like the sandwiched look as well. My last project was a pair of nightstands where I left the edges exposed. Great project, my shop dog(he wants one too) and I give it two paws up.
Looks nice. I never think to do that with plywood, but when I see you and others doing it and leaving the edges exposed, I end up really liking it. I need to remember that.
I've been watching your channel for a while. A friend of mine asked me to build her a similar pieces for her dog. Glad I searched on TH-cam and found that you had made one. I plan on using shellac to protect the finished product.
I Like To Make Stuff Bob, I like your mix of Walnut and plywood. I too like to sometimes see plywood used as a feature instead of hidden like it was never there.
Old skool hack for you. When glueing up sprinkle some table salt over one face. It helps to prevent the work pieces from sliding. An age old trick made more famous by izzy swan. Nice project though, it looks great.
Hey... I found this in your channel. Just what I need for my best friend. I'm from Spain and thanks for your work.!! That's inspired to me to make stuffs....
add a little table salt tho those glue spots before putting wood together, does'nt effect strength but the "grit" helps hold pieces still till the glue sets
I was wondering why three holes. As for the parts slipping you need to watch Izzy's tips. He puts a light coat of salt on the glue to keep it from moving around. Works great. Thanks for sharing.
Cool project, but I really just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your channel. You do great quality work without a million dollar shop, you make the sponsor connections flow perfectly and the quality of the video and edit it top notch. Thanks for what you do!
John Grammaticus Wait a minute.... are you saying that us Americans compromise and quality and looks all to build a cheaper more poorly made product? Listen here mate! You've got us all wrong! Us Americans REALLY like to compromise on quality and looks and build a dirt cheap, really poor product. It's the American way!
I plan on building one of these, but integrating an arduino with rfid. My younger dog will eat the older dogs food if you're not watching her and the older one is too timid to stop her. And the older dog doesn't like to eat all at once, she'll nibble on her food throughout the day. Makes it hard to police the younger one.
There is a spray thats called "NeverWet" and you could use it for the topcoat so that way the water runs off and it doesn't get wet. You can find it at Home Depot. 👍🏽
My dog eats and drinks very enthusiastically, I have to put something behind his raised bowls because the baseboard makes it stick out and when he uses it his force causes it to shake and bang around. How might I modify this custom raised bowl holder to account for baseboards? (I rent, can't change them).
looks nice! how well does it perform regarding lateral stiffness? I guess its good enough for dog food! Another walnut piece along its front would be visually pleasant as well :)
Cactus! workshop Yeah, it's plenty strong enough for what it is, but you're right, a stringer to connect the cross braces of the legs would look good and make it much stronger!
I just stumbled across your videos. They're really cool. What's that tool you use to indent the wood in order to hide the screws into. (it's blue and on a clamp; 1:50)
where do you buy your walnut? any tips one how to get nice hardwood? that was probably a $100 piece of walnut and you used it on your dog bowl? maybe im looking in the wrong places but in my area that walnut is mucho dinero!
Btw you can't use poly on something already oiled or waxed. You have to remove the wax or oil before, because otherwise the poly won't stick to the wood.
Hi BobJust re watched this, are you still using it? It's looks large, I thinking of making 1 for our dogs outside water bowl. These look great by the way!👍🏼
I have a big dog and I was actually doing some research on the net about raised dog food bowls because I heard it was better for their digestion. I actually found that the best thing is to leave the bowls at ground level because raising them could actually make them eater faster and cause problems to the stomach and digestive system to those dogs that are prone to it. I'm still not sure about it though cos some websites say the opposite... does anyone know if either of those can cause problems to large dogs, or being a benefit, or if neither change anything?
Marfelt Actually paper towels, which were better but still not ideal. I still need to do some research on the best cloth for applying finish. Anyone have any suggestions?
Oh man, I wish i had the tools to make these kind of things! I love making stuff out of wood or other materials, But i always end up with wobbly things or things that just break :P
Good idea...Looks very useful. Take a look at Orijen dog food if you really want a healthy food. Hills is the same crap as everyone else. 5 of first 6 ingredients are full of carbs = not good for your pooch. Not trying to be negative in any way, but we found out our Iams dog food contributed to our 6 year old dane getting bone cancer. Just something to think about. Keep up the great vids.
Dominic Talerico Well, I use a reciprocating saw to cut the nails off. This leaves them embedded in the runners, but I mostly use the slats, so that works for me.
+I Like To Make Stuff Thanks a lot. I need some new ones bad, so I'm stopping at home depot on the way home. Keep up all your amazing work. My wife and I love your videos.
My question is why put on the Butcherblock conditioner before a coat of Poly? I would think maybe the Poly wouldn't stick well with the oil and wax layer below it.
Bill Riley You're totally right. I hadn't considered the poly until I shot that portion of the video but have never ended up putting it on for that very reason.
I like that you saved the advertisement for the end and didn't start with it or sprinkle it in. Good project and good advice on pocket holes.
Pretty dog and that was a massive hunk of walnut. So pretty. We've got a black walnut tree in our yard that we're working on milling up soon. You're welcome to some pieces, Bob.
Slowvannah Farms Nice! I'll definitely take you up on that offer! Thank you!
Bruce A. Ulrich Hey Bruce, don't forgot to expose the plywood edge sometimes! (I'll leave that there so you can remember next time ;)
I Like To Make Stuff ha ha! Good deal.
Excellent video, as usual! I especially liked your comment about the use of pocket holes and how it's not always a bad thing.
That's a great project. Something that you would never go out and purchase, but given the chance to build... awesome stuff, Bob!
I am so happy you explained the 3 bowls...i thought maybe you had a sci-fi dog with 3 heads.....lol. Nice build.
Miter Mike's Woodshop I was thinking the same thing. He'd have to be named Cerberus.
Nice project Bob! I like the angles you used on the legs.
Steve Carmichael Thanks Steve!
Nice one Bob! I am going to make a scaled down version for our three little cats
That turned out nice and it is a simple design.
i really like how you included your sponsor, putting him at the end of your video and i can decide whether I'm interested or not. Good job!
Outstanding video and great youtuber that declares the name of the sponsor in the first moments. Bravo.
Old skool hack for you. When glueing up sprinkle some table salt over one face. It helps to prevent the work pieces from sliding. An age old trick made more famous by izzy swan. Nice project though, it looks great.
Great video! Love the shirt! And finally, that walnut was really awesome looking!
Nice looking piece Bob! I also liked the music
I'm Ben and I like to watch you make stuff
Youve got the coolest tools and a workshop
Hey... I found this in your channel. Just what I need for my best friend. I'm from Spain and thanks for your work.!! That's inspired to me to make stuffs....
I had a similar arrangement for two Mastiffs I used to have. They needed the raised bowls for their size and it helped contain their mess (somewhat).
Looks great! I'm a big fan of the walnut and ply look as well. Just make sure you really clean that well and remove the wax before you add poly.
Christmas gift for my dogs this year. Woo!
I was wondering when the famed pocket whole on walnut video would turn up. I agree, there is a time and a place for pocket wholes.
Very nice work Bob!
Great project. I'm also a big fan of exposed plywood edges.
I have been wanting to make my pup a raised food bowl but she still has some growing todo. This is definately on the list of projects.
It makes me happy that you care about your dogs cuz I know some people don't:( I do! :)
And i love yor videos i watch them every day
I helped my brother awhile ago, build something similar. He houses Greyhounds after they are no longer racing, so they can be adopted. to a good home.
this video encouraged me go to make another one!! it’s cool stuff!
Turned out really nice Bob
Nick Ferry Thanks Nick!
Great job! Enjoying all of your projects!
Great video! Will definitely check out the dog food. Thanks again!
add a little table salt tho those glue spots before putting wood together, does'nt effect strength but the "grit" helps hold pieces still till the glue sets
Cool project Bob.

Nice project, thanks for sharing!
You could try a pocket silk or a silk handkerchief to apply the finish since it worn fall apart when it gets wet.
To help with glue making your work slide sprinkle some sugar on the glue gives the work more grip
okay, last shirt comment, it just stands to reason that your nerd shirts in these videos are great!
Great project and very informative.
Albert
Al Furtado Thanks Albert!
Is it really safe to put a water bowl next to electrical sockets?
a few grains of salt help keep the wood from sliding around and won't effect the glue up. nice quick tip.
Do you have a classic dog house video? Would be A great DIY!
Cool project, but I really just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your channel. You do great quality work without a million dollar shop, you make the sponsor connections flow perfectly and the quality of the video and edit it top notch. Thanks for what you do!
Wow, thank you Chuck! I really appreciate that!
Nice working shed dude! I wish I had a half of that nice and smart machines to build my little projects :)
Hello. Thank you for posting this video.
This is a great project, you make it look so easy. :)
Love it .. what would I use so the wood be water proof ?
Nice build! (And super fun editing as always!)
Thanks Toby!
Fun fact - I never saw a pocket hole in my life until I went on youtube. I guess we just don't use them in Europe as much as you do in US.
Yeah mee too
John Grammaticus Wait a minute.... are you saying that us Americans compromise and quality and looks all to build a cheaper more poorly made product? Listen here mate! You've got us all wrong! Us Americans REALLY like to compromise on quality and looks and build a dirt cheap, really poor product. It's the American way!
And I have never seen Bob use a dowel (wood dübel).
Fuck off.....Ikea much???
Love the project - very cool!
Great job mate.
Sallys likes our dog bowl set up just the ways it is. Thank you though .
Great job! you're the guy!
I plan on building one of these, but integrating an arduino with rfid. My younger dog will eat the older dogs food if you're not watching her and the older one is too timid to stop her. Great BOB!
Great job!
how did you find out what the height of the bowls are?
I HAVE THAT SHIRT!!!!! OH and Awesome project to.
Yup, gotta share this Bad Boy !
Nicely done Bob :-)
What kind of table saw do you have?
Would love to see what you would come up with for an automated dog food dispenser. Like with a Rpi or arduino!
I love your dog! It's so cute! :)
My dog eats and drinks very enthusiastically, I have to put something behind his raised bowls because the baseboard makes it stick out and when he uses it his force causes it to shake and bang around. How might I modify this custom raised bowl holder to account for baseboards? (I rent, can't change them).
Hi what are ALL the tools that you use? Thanks!
I made a few of these for my dogs,I would of edge band the perimeter in walnut for a nice contrast. Came out nice though.
cejkwo Mass Oh that would look good! Great idea!
Oh my gosh this guy is amazing😱😱 I wish I was this smart😂
Double layered ply looks great. Nice job!
Marc Schaefermeyer Thanks Marc!
...or you secretly own a Cerberus and each head has it's own food bowl
just kidding
+STcraft Maybe I do.... or maybe I do. ;)
Lol
Dungeon Link? XD
just not kidding
The Black Talon I
Great video! Would love to see more uploads!
Adrian Ruth Thanks! I would love to have the ability to do more, but I'm putting them out as quickly as I can finish them :)
looks nice! how well does it perform regarding lateral stiffness? I guess its good enough for dog food! Another walnut piece along its front would be visually pleasant as well :)
Cactus! workshop Yeah, it's plenty strong enough for what it is, but you're right, a stringer to connect the cross braces of the legs would look good and make it much stronger!
Awesome vid! Any chance of you ever building a dog house? Keep up the great content!
I just stumbled across your videos. They're really cool. What's that tool you use to indent the wood in order to hide the screws into. (it's blue and on a clamp; 1:50)
It's a Kreg pocket hole jig.
hey Bob, what kind of dogs do you have? I'm just wondering what a good height would be for my dog
where do you buy your walnut? any tips one how to get nice hardwood? that was probably a $100 piece of walnut and you used it on your dog bowl? maybe im looking in the wrong places but in my area that walnut is mucho dinero!

Parabéns,muito bonito.Saudações Brasil.
I have and was wearing the same Millennium Falcon shirt when i was watching this video.
how do you find these big pieces of wood like walnut and oak?
***** I got the walnut from a local lumber yard that has a small hardwood selection.
Hi BobJust re watched this, are you still using it? It's looks large, I thinking of making 1 for our dogs outside water bowl.

So what kind of rags did you end up using? Microfiber?
Marfelt Actually paper towels, which were better but still not ideal. I still need to do some research on the best cloth for applying finish. Anyone have any suggestions?
I Like To Make Stuff I remember Matthew Cremona mentioning in the comments that he uses lint free cotton rags from the hardware store.
Adam Liske Good call!!
please like this and you will get good luck
Hey Bob, love the work you produce. Any chance you'll be doing any cat related woodworking projects ?
Oh man, I wish i had the tools to make these kind of things! I love making stuff out of wood or other materials, But i always end up with wobbly things or things that just break :P
Molto bello e funzionale bravo
Can you make a phone case??? It have been super cool👍🏼
Just how many clamps do you have??? I saw like 20
not enough. you can't have enough clamps
***** you know it
He said he's working his way to 1 mil 😂😂😂
Stephanie Yu legend says he has more clamps then subscribers
Please make videos about the techiques and tools you use, like how-to videos .
Thanks for your great channel !

Hey Bob, I was wondering where you get you maple, walnut, etc. I want to make some things for my family but can't find good wood.
Dominic Talerico We've got a small local lumber yard that has a small hardwood selection. Hopefully you've got a local shop like that as well.
Thank you. Do you have any methods for breaking down pallets? I'm making a half wall of pallet wood around my room.
Dominic Talerico Well, I use a reciprocating saw to cut the nails off. This leaves them embedded in the runners, but I mostly use the slats, so that works for me.
Thank you so much. Man, You're channel has given so many ideas as to what I can do. Please keep making awesome videos.
Are those Avanti Bro blades on your miter saw? If so, how do you like them?
+Eddie Milton Yes they are! They have worked great and lasted pretty long as well.
+I Like To Make Stuff Thanks a lot. I need some new ones bad, so I'm stopping at home depot on the way home. Keep up all your amazing work. My wife and I love your videos.
now he is wearing his metal ring
The raised food bowls will also improve the digestion of the dog and help him stay healthy.
Nice!
Sandra Powell aka {Sawdust Girl} Thanks Sandra!
great idea for when I have a bigger dog again...
Who hoo I got the 1000 th like.. Good job I have two dogs as well but I'll have to make the legs shorter as they're min pins.. Thanks
Phew, I thought I was going crazy when I was thinking about that. Thanks for a quick answer, Keep up the good work.
cool video like always
Catel Lewis Thanks!!
