    As an OTR O/O I used to hit a dock 2 mabey 3 times a weeks. Still, the backing was easy. Reason being, GET OUT AND LOOK!!! 1st time, I GOALed 5 times, 2nd time, 7 times, last time I GOALed 9 times because folks with 41 years driving experience were bumping the trailer and getting failed out. Road portion, swing wide, take your time. I sat at one intersection for five or six minutes and several light cycles waiting for right conditions to make a right turn. After I completed the turn, my facilitator said "great job on that turn". I real life, you cannot help but hit curbs to get into some stores. Galveston is a perfect example.
    Pre-trip, study, study study.

    Yep I pass 28 people in my class backing was super easy for me because I hit dock probably 10 to 14 times a day. Everything you Said was correct dead on. Study 📖 that pre trip to the T. Fyi 8 pass out of 28 people don't quit your job. Pre trip you have to speak out loud ijs. I only have 13 years of experience clean record however I always have the mindset 😌 I'm a rookie for life.. . Alot of people fail pre trip are backing. The backing is tight. Just keep in your mind if someone else can do it so can you. GOOD LUCK KEEP ON TRUCKING 🚚.

    Was at Seymour last week. I was a track 1 all 3 days, which meant I passed all three days. I didn’t know that until I got to my terminal the next Monday and my manager told me. However I was filled with anxiety but managed it with exercise, getting good rest and having a positive attitude. It was 27 in our class so they split us into two groups. Half of each group passed. Everything you are saying is correct. What I respect about Walmart is it didn’t matter if you been driving 3 or 30 yrs it leveled the playing field for everyone. I’m at Greencastle.

    Great advice, I have been driving for Walmart for 5 years did my OnBoarding the way they use to do it everyone nationwide went to Bentonville. There were 150 drivers on Monday, and by Friday there were 60 of us left. This is a "tryout" and almost 50% do not make it, but the ones that do end up staying with Walmart to the end of their careers. Once you are out on your own, you quickly realize that Walmart is NOT a trucking company, so they don't push you like one because they don't make their money off of the trucks they make it in the stores. Side Note don't quit your current job is great advice, but Walmart WILL be calling your current job to get job verification before they bring you to OnBoarding, so the cat is out of the bag with your current employer.

    Honestly, that’s why they can’t get driver’s, because all the bs preliminaries, i’m a 26 yr trucking veteran, either you check my driving record and employment record or don’t take me at all, i don’t need to walk around a damn truck calling out everything on the truck from front to back, if i was gonna be hired as a mechanic then i understand but if they need driver’s that bad then they need to cut a lot of that bs out, Walmart isn’t everything, i bring in 89k already as a company driver and i work the same 5/2 & 5/3 schedule BUT i haul butane and propane.

    • @WalmartRich
      @WalmartRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      With more relaxed standard comes more accidents. Walmart has to protect itself since they are self insured.
      Also driver minimum is now 110k. I would not want to deal with the Hazzard and stress of hauling dangerous chemicals.
      This job is as stress free as a driving job can get. Drop n hook or live unload by store associates.
      Im glad you got a job you like, seriously. But the headache you mention is almost the same thing you had to do to get a license to begin with. The benefits and pay are well well worth 1 week of slight possible retraining. Everyone has thier preferences, thats ok.

      I’m glad the “burden” of doing an actual pre-trip scares away the knuckle dragging bubbas who would likely just leave a busted trailer for the next driver to take care of. I look forward to driving for Walmart so I have other drivers who actually know where the shop is even located unlike at my current company where I feel like a baby sitter for a bunch of man-babies

    My only concern is that I haven't been driving a manual in 6 years. Otherwise it's very familiar business, been hauling groceries for 8 years now. Making about 95k now. They're building a Walmart distribution center right next to ours , so it might be that there's going to be some healthy competition pay-wise so our company can keep their drivers lol 😂

      All onboarding classes should be the same. My pretrip show the airbrake steps (I think) but now they have you recite the airbrake because you're not connected to the trailer when you do that step. So I keep hearing boot camp. So do they stand over you while your taking your urine test. Lol or do they hair test. What about the physical as well. I will take that pretrip test I have orientation in a couple of weeks

    • @WalmartRich

      No its nothing like bootcamp..its just what they call it. Im told in the last 3moths things changed a lot. The pretrip guide is able to be used while doing the test. You only recite the airbrake test now. They also have finishing school for those who need just a little help.

    Thank You for sharing your experience and advice for onboarding with WalMart. I have been at CR England for 14 months and a lot applies to training and routine. Questions. Do you get assigned your own truck and keep it? Or is there still 'slip seating'? I heard the phone policy is now relaxed for safe Drivers. And how many months experience now to join WalMart?

    • @WalmartRich
      @WalmartRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      30 months driving in last 4 years.
      Phone policy is now no time limits. Rules are must have a headset or hands free device. No taking while backing, construction zones, bad weather etc. (Distracting situations, kinda use common sense)
      Walmart slip seating is like this. On your Monday you get a truck. On Friday you pack up. Next Monday new truck and Friday yo pack up. I was able to get a 5-2 5-3 program just months after getting hired. It might take 2-3 years to get your own truck assigned to you.

    • @LouisKatz
      @LouisKatz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WalmartRich Thank You for your reply. For me getting used to new truck every Monday is not ideal. But would consider WalMart if they change that policy. Down the road...
