Hey! I don’t really follow a specific framework because mine is intertwined with my diary but I have been recommended a few frameworks - I’ll definitely make a insta post/vid about it at some point!
The difference between healthcare assistant and support worker should, in theory, be that healthcare assistants work with less able people who often need personal care and high level of care input (medications given, taken to places, shopping and cooking done for the patient) and the support workers work with people that are more able; they have more of a supervisory role focused on empowering and guidance and less on personal care or manual handling ( so they would remind the patient about their medication, they will accompany someone out, and help them shop and cook for themselves). The elderly tend to get healthcare assistants, people with learning disabilities tend to get support. The lines between them are not definite though - you do empower the elderly too, and some people with learning disabilities need both care and support. In real life, the demarcation can't be mentained.
HCA is more hands on care, usually following care plans. Support workers are genuinely more about promoting independence to service users and following their support plans. I've done both. Graduated with MSc Health Psychology in 2019. Travelling for now, but when I get back to the UK hopefully get my first AP post. Then, hopefully a docterate in the future. :)

Hi Ayka, thanks for your videos, very helpful! I am an undergraduate psychology student, I’m currently studying in a university in Italy but live in London. I am a midwife as well and hopefully will be able to work in the perinatal mental health team in the near future. Do you think that could qualify as clinical experience? My main interest is clinical psychology so I think I will go down that path. I don’t get the difference between what you can do with a PhD and what you can do a master’s degree in clinical psychology in the Uk though. Any suggestions?

Hey! It’s a hard one - I’d say personally I would get clinical experience if you feel like you’re gonna get a high 2:1. However, masters these days CAN be the foot in the door for placements. It really depends on what you want to get out of the masters - don’t do it just for the sake of it (like I did and regretted it) !

So... I may have messed up. Graduated with a BA in ‘professional musicianship’ back in 2018... Loads of student debt to pay off and deciding to change career as I’ve always been fascinated by psychology but realised from this video that I can’t afford to do another undergraduate degree. I feel so lost, not sure if it’s even possible anymore.
Grateful for the video, do you have to have a masters in psychology’s to become a clinical psychologist. Can I get a joint masters in phycology and criminology if my percentages are right.
To become a clinical psychologist you need to either have a BSc in Psychology which is BPS accredited or a MSc Psychology (conversion) which is BPS accredited (if you did an undergrad degree in a different subject).

Hey Aika, I wanna do Counselling Psychology instead and I'm the 2020 graduation cohort. Do you know what the differences are? One thing that I find frustrating is that Unis require a certificate in counselling skills which has to be self funded, other than the 2:1, BPS registration, and work experience. What do you know about this? I do want to do Counselling Psy but all this self funding is crazy! I'm fine applying for a student loan for the Doctorate but the Certificate just has to be paid from my pocket and my pocket is empty for now, since the pandemic. If you don't know this yourself, perhaps you could do a collab with someone who's done it, I'm sure you know people, right? Much love to you.
Yes, it’s such a shame and bizarre thing that counselling psych is fully self-funded! It makes it very expensive and only accessible to few. Yes I do know a few counselling psych trainees from meeting them on my Instagram - I do know some differences myself but will try drag a counselling psych into a video for an interview series hopefully!

Fantastic explanation just what I was hoping for. Starting my psychology degree in January 2021. Currently an assistant manager for supported living with a whole range of mental health diagnoses. Tom Burdick got you. Become a support worker and got promoted to an assistant within a few months as had a lot of transferable skills and took to the job really well. No experience required been fully trained by my company and put me through level 3 diploma

Psychology at Oxford can be studied either on its own as a 4 year MSci in Experimental Psychology, or in combination with philosophy or linguistics as part of the 3 or 4 year BA or MSci in Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics, right ? which one did you choose
Thanks for this video. May I ask, you've said that if you get a 2:1 or above, you don't need to get masters to go onto a phd. But you got a first and still got a masters degree on top of that. Why is that?
My study background is a bachelor's in Computer science and now I am studying a master's in cognitive science with a specialization in cognitive psychology and neuroscience. I took some technical classes too but I enjoyed these two majors so much and in the future, I want to work as a clinical psychologist. My next plan is to do PhD as well from any German university. But every time I discuss this with any senior I get the same reply that I cannot be a clinical psychologist. I didn’t do anythjng psychology based at college and I’ve just been accepted into 5 unis for clinical psychology, biology and chemistry will definitely help you get in too!

3:23 I thought a 2:1 was normally awarded to students whose final scores were => 60%. I have never heard that 2:1 starts from above 65% before. Also how do you spell your name?

The video was awesome and helpful. I'm doing an online degree in Psychology that's eligible for chartered membership. However, I will be applying for a doctorate as an international student, you mentioned you were international yourself. Would you like to explain more how that works?
International places are self-funded rather than NHS-funded, meaning that you will have to pay tuition fees as normal over the 3 years (and living costs, travel expenses etc). It is around £20000 per year but this varies! The number of self-funded places are smaller than NHS-funded spots, but I've heard it is equally competitive! Hope this helps
Can you explain more about the international route? I know only certain unis offer self funded places. And oxford isn’t one of them. So are you a UK national or did you have a different type of visa? :)

Yes it is possible, you can do an MSc psychology CONVERSION course after your undergrad which is a 1 year course and then you will be eligible to apply for furthur doctorate program

Loads of student debt to pay off and deciding to change career as I’ve always been fascinated by psychology but realised from this video that I can’t afford to do another undergraduate degree. I feel so lost, not sure if it’s even possible anymore.

Grateful for the video, do you have to have a masters in psychology’s to become a clinical psychologist. Can I get a joint masters in phycology and criminology if my percentages are right.
To become a clinical psychologist you need to either have a BSc in Psychology which is BPS accredited or a MSc Psychology (conversion) which is BPS accredited (if you did an undergrad degree in a different subject).
So, do you need to do a Masters before doing a Doctorate if you get a 2:1? ☺️

Hey Aika, I wanna do Counselling Psychology instead and I'm the 2020 graduation cohort. Do you know what the differences are? One thing that I find frustrating is that Unis require a certificate in counselling skills which has to be self funded, other than the 2:1, BPS registration, and work experience. What do you know about this? I do want to do Counselling Psy but all this self funding is crazy! I'm fine applying for a student loan for the Doctorate but the Certificate just has to be paid from my pocket and my pocket is empty for now, since the pandemic. If you don't know this yourself, perhaps you could do a collab with someone who's done it, I'm sure you know people, right? Much love to you.
Yes, it’s such a shame and bizarre thing that counselling psych is fully self-funded! It makes it very expensive and only accessible to few. Yes I do know a few counselling psych trainees from meeting them on my Instagram - I do know some differences myself but will try drag a counselling psych into a video for an interview series hopefully!

Fantastic explanation just what I was hoping for. Starting my psychology degree in January 2021. Currently an assistant manager for supported living with a whole range of mental health diagnoses. Knowing this is perfect experience in line with the doctorate is amazing. Please could you clarify one thing for me. If you get a 2.1 or 1st can you go straight onto doctorate without doing a masters in-between? Thanks
Masters degrees are desirable for some unis, though some have it as a necessary requirement - best to check per uni!

Tom Burdick got you. Become a support worker and got promoted to an assistant within a few months as had a lot of transferable skills and took to the job really well. No experience required been fully trained by my company and put me through level 3 diploma

Psychology at Oxford can be studied either on its own as a 4 year MSci in Experimental Psychology, or in combination with philosophy or linguistics as part of the 3 or 4 year BA or MSci in Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics, right ? which one did you choose
Just to clarify. If you get a 1st or 2:1 in your BSc then you might not need a masters to get onto a doctorate programme?
Yes - high 2:1 or first. Although many people choose to do master's anyways (like myself)
Thanks for this video. May I ask, you've said that if you get a 2:1 or above, you don't need to get masters to go onto a phd. But you got a first and still got a masters degree on top of that. Why is that?

My study background is a bachelor's in Computer science and now I am studying a master's in cognitive science with a specialization in cognitive psychology and neuroscience. I took some technical classes too but I enjoyed these two majors so much and in the future, I want to work as a clinical psychologist. My next plan is to do PhD as well from any German university. But every time I discuss this with any senior I get the same reply that I cannot be a clinical psychologist. Would you guide me on what I should do or any other field I should search about if I can't be a clinical psychologist.?I just want a bright future i struggled a lot in finding my interest. And now I need help from seniors.

I didn’t do anythjng psychology based at college and I’ve just been accepted into 5 unis for clinical psychology, biology and chemistry will definitely help you get in too!

3:23 I thought a 2:1 was normally awarded to students whose final scores were => 60%. I have never heard that 2:1 starts from above 65% before.

The video was awesome and helpful. I'm doing an online degree in Psychology that's eligible for chartered membership. However, I will be applying for a doctorate as an international student, you mentioned you were international yourself. Would you like to explain more how that works?
International places are self-funded rather than NHS-funded, meaning that you will have to pay tuition fees as normal over the 3 years (and living costs, travel expenses etc). It is around £20000 per year but this varies! The number of self-funded places are smaller than NHS-funded spots, but I've heard it is equally competitive! Hope this helps
Can you explain more about the international route? I know only certain unis offer self funded places. And oxford isn’t one of them. So are you a UK national or did you have a different type of visa? :)

Yes, however you need to check with each course to see if it needs to be one year full time paid work. you can definitely try!
