Thanks for the video, Holly. Not a lot of positive information around AP jobs - and it's made out to be *the* career route to CP. Your video was quite detailed and made me hopeful
I got told by someone in the nhs that has worked as a AP they opened the job application for one of the nhs AP roles online only for one day so she could apply and get it. I was told that the nhs does this a lot they hire internally first
hi holly, thank you so much for this detailed video. can i please ask, did you say that you were working as an AP whilst studying for your undergrad?.. please let me know... I am doing my undergrad for Psychology with counselling and have been looking for some work experience. thanks
Hiya - so I worked as a research assistant during my undergrad but an AP after a few years of post-uni work :) have a look out for support worker roles
Hey, I'm a SEMH TA i graduated with a psychology degree last year, would this be enough to get an assistant psychologist CAMHS role or would i still need support worker roles first? I can never find any support worker roles that don't involve personal care and i really don't enjoy personal care.
Hiya - thanks for watching! It's really hard to say as it depends on what experience that has given you and what the experience is of the other AP applicants, but you can always give it a go! Try looking for support worker roles in more community-based services like drug/alcohol services :) Best of luck!
Yeah, absolutely, it can be a long process, but it isn't that long for everyone, and during those 5 years, I had some really useful, interesting experiences, just outside of the conventional Degree --> AP --> DClin route :)
Hi, love the content, and find it super helpful as I am currently a band 5 youth worker with the NHS, and interested in human psychology and mental health. I have a masters in Youth Work and currently battling between going on to do a PhD in mental health/young people studies...or doing a conversion masters degree and solely honing in on psychology 🙃 I'm torn...any advice?
It’s difficult because it really depends on what you want to do- I’d have a chat with some phd candidates to see what it’s like and what the job opportunities are afterwards :) happy to have a chat re: clinical psychology
This has been so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and support :)
Thanks for your lovely comment! So glad it’s helpful ☺️☺️☺️
Hi Holly,
Thank you for this detailed and informative video. Could not have wished for better advice.

I'm so glad to hear that! There are lots of other routes, so don't worry!!

Ah wow I don't think it's designed this way! But many AP roles are open for a day only as there are so many applicants xx

But, applying for 5 years actually turns my stomach upside down. Is it worth it?

@ClinicalPsychologyCommunityUK in 5 years I am hoping to get my PhD.
Great!
is psycholgoy a good career..
Hello! As opposed to a support worker or HCA, would a children’s nurse working in a mental health ward be suitable? thank you :)
Definitely! Especially if you can work alongside some psychologists :)
Do you think a position as a pupil support assistant for the council could be valuable? Thank you
Hiya - yes definitely valuable, although you will need some more clinical experience most likely :)
Hi, do I have to have a current BPS (graduate) mebership in order to apply?
Hi Lucy, No you do not! You do need graduate basis for chartership only, not a graduate membership. This means you've done a BPS accredited degree :)

I am a SEN TA - is that good experience?
Hiya - thanks for the comment! I would say yes :) it will be great experience for getting you ready for a support worker role before an AP role :)
