Speaking of the inability to light fire, years ago I attended a fire protection demonstration where a company had a system for extinguishing fires wherein they would reduce the oxygen level in a room to a point where you could still breathe but fire could not sustain itself (seems like it was 16% oxygen, and normal air has something like 21% if I remember right). They also introduced very fine water vapor in the room, so that it looked like a cloud or fog was in the room. The combination of the lower oxygen level and the mist in the air prevented fire from burning. They actually lit a fire in the test room, and then activated the system, and the fire just went out. I have it on video. If the cataclysmic events like volcanic eruption or something else reduced the O2 levels, combined with extreme humidity from the weather produced such an atmospheric condition, it would explain why they couldn't light any fires and why they described it as a "mist of darkness", a mist that produced darkness because it prevented fire.

Same thing happens after volcanic eruptions where there's a lot of Ash in the air. Enough oxygen is displaced that fires can't burn.

I cannot express the tears that came when you talked about Sam. All three of my children are autistic, but my 7yo is what is right now termed classically autistic. He doesn't have any words, or even words approximations. I remember doing the motions with him to wheels on the bus one day when he was 2, and then the next, it was completely gone. He hasn't done it since. He cannot feed, dress, or bathe himself, though he has no cognitive delays, everything is just so overwhelming for his mind and his control over his body is limited.
It can be a very very dark place to be a parent of a child with extreme autism. Because you love your child, but, as you do beautifully express it, you mourn in a very real way the cold you thought you would have, too.
Sam gives me hope. I don't know that my son will ever get there-- we're agonizing over baptism next year and whether or not to have him marked unaccountable for the time being because his grasp of right and wrong is about that of a toddler-- but it may not be that way forever. Thank you for that little bit of light.

Dear sister you are a real hero! Thank you for sharing your experiences. I admire you and am inspired by your example. I have been thinking a lot about the fact that the most precious souls were sent to Earth on fragile bodies. I am eager now to encounter people with desabilities or special needs, so I can try to show my reverence unto them. I reverence your children, they are very special souls and what to say about the mom they were sent to. Thank you dear sister. Love from Brazil.

Thank you for sharing something so precious and personal. I too have a nonverbal autistic 11yr old. He is very low functioning. Anyhow, when it came time to think about baptism, I took it to the bishop. Because of his disability/diagnosis it is in his church record that baptism is not needed for him to return to our father in heaven. Just wanted to share that with you.

I apologize for not being able to identify the author of this story, but I've used it in lessons for many years:
A few years ago, a young man was inspecting fire damage just outside an Idaho town where there had been an extensive forest fire. As he and the other volunteers were helping inspect the fire damage they noticed several smoldering mounds across the scorched earth. Intrigued he asked a government inspector what they were. The inspector told him to “kick one of the piles and see”.
    He did.
To his great surprise, several baby Sage Hen chicks ran out from under the upturned mound. He was fascinated. How ingenious he thought, these little chicks knew where to run for refuge from the fire. He asked the inspector how the chicks knew about the natural shelter and exactly what it was.
He was amazed with the inspectors reply. “They’re not natural at all. The smoldering heap is what is left of their mother. When a fire breaks out the mother hen calls to her young ones, and stretches out her wings so that they can run inside to her protective embrace.”
You’ll never see a better demonstration of love or self-sacrifice.”

Considered an urban myth originating about 1945. Not saying it isn’t true, but don’t want to perpetuate Mormon Lore at the expense of my own Hen Gathering witness as I read the Book of Mormon. It stands there and in my heart as a witness of the Holy Ghost about the nature of God and the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
I still like the story and it wouldn’t surprise me to find that experience recorded in a journal, a first hand account. I hope so! ❤

I always enjoyed the "Discussions of the Gospel" series on the BYU channel, years ago. Eric was one of my favorites! There are so many rich and true areas that have been taught in both parts 1 & 2! I have to download the show notes for sure! I can't thank you both enough for bringing special guests for each unique episode. They each teach such profound doctrine of truth! This episode kept bringing to my mind dear and sacred events in my life and the role Jesus Christ played in each event. I love the work the whole crew puts forth to bring us closer to God, our Father, God, our Savior, and God, the Holy Ghost. Thank you all so much!❤

When I was young I went to Timpanogos Cave. During the tour they turn off all the lights. That darkness deep into the mountain is frightening, even when you know any minute the lights will come back on. In this passage where the Nephites can't light even "exceedingly dry wood" I remember the darkness of the cave. How thankful I am to know Jesus is "the Light". He is all light.

A spiritually uplift as always, the humility in your total countenance, all three of you is so warm and energizing, Professor Huntsmans tender tears made this a total heart warmer. There isn't a day and into the night that these discussions don't play over in my soul and in my daily interactions with my family and friends. I totally lavish my spiritual senses in a connecting unifying with our dear Savior in a very close manner that gives such peace.
You were discussing how concerned we are when those we love step away from the protection of this Light of Christ. Repentance is really, really hard, and those who have been through the tangled jungles fighting to find a strong hand of hope know the loneliness and darkness and the all-consuming struggle back into the "Light" of safety.
This is not a leisure world where we can skip along without the constant companion ship of Christ. Repentance and forgiveness are real.

Brother Smith, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend who is going through a terrible divorce. I've been doing the same thing for the last year, and I understand where she is. Please tell her that the light does come. As awful as this has been, I've gained a closer relationship with Heavenly Father than I've ever had before. I know that blessings are on their way for her too.

    Regarding Divine violence
The way I understand it is that it is, as John said, the Lord actually being merciful. The people at the time of the flood were hurting each other badly. They were moved to another classroom where they could continue to learn, but wouldn't be hurting one another and further condemning themselves. The same was true at the time of the destruction in the Americas.
It's hard to read about "the fair sons and daughters " who were also moved to another classroom. From my understanding, "fair" is a reference to inner heart, not outward appearance.

I loved what brother Huntsman taught me. However, he mentions the length of time between the 3Ne destruction and the Lords appearance. It is actually stated in Scripture. 3Ne 8:5 and 3Ne 10:18 make the time almost a full year.

Yes, I caught that the last time we had the Book of Mormon to study and wondered why no one mentioned it in our Gospel Doctrine discussions. Fasinating.

    • @garycouture1
      @garycouture1 หลายเดือนก่อน

I agree with gordonwoods. 3 Nephi 8:5 states that the destruction began on the first month and fourth day of the 34th year. The beginning of 3 Nephi 10:18, Mormon sets the timeframe of “in the ending of the thirty and fourth year” and he ends the verse with, “he did truly manifest himself unto them.” It is clear from these two verses that there was nearly a year time span between the death of Jesus Christ and his appearance among the righteous people of Nephi. Since we know from the New Testament that Christ was crucified just before the Passover, which was the time that the destruction happened in the Nephite lands, a year later would have been the Passover again, hence the reason for the large gathering at the temple in the land of Bountiful.

  • @BeKindRemind
    @BeKindRemind หลายเดือนก่อน

Strange as it is, the Spirit has taught me to see the beauty in those verses describing destruction in 3 Nephi 9. This is the place in the scriptures where the Savior most directly explains why entire cities were destroyed - to save them from themselves. To make their eternal judgments as easy and light on them as possible. The verses themselves describe it this way, "that the blood of the prophets and the saints shall not come up any more unto me against them." Seeing the end from the beginning, and having suffered it all Himself, He knows that a temporal destruction is nothing compared to an eternal one.

The most important thing you can say and do when someone you know is suffering a great loss is to be with them, listen to them; hear their grief, feel their pain, and let them know that you love them.
They do NOT, at that moment, need to hear the gospel preached, or to be told, “It will all be restored in Heaven”.
    They need comfort!
Most of us know the plan, and it still hurts. We miss our loved one desperately, with a consuming pain.
It hurts even more; adds “insult to injury” to have someone doubt our faith.
    I know. 😢

I know this may sound too simple....but try to become extremely diligent and constant in your personal scripture study. I have been studying everyday for the past two months a little bit each day of every scripture book and the church magazines and conferente talks. Then I sing a hymn and get on my knees and try to imagine being in front of God the creator, the King. And many times all I can say is THANK YOU. My days have been full of light! Please try it...after two weeks I promise you will see the light. Love from Brazil.

    3Ne.10:4-6
I've been intrigued and bewildered by a phrase in vs 5. Reading the number of times the hen gathers her chickens under her wing (seems Chick-Fil-a, Col. Sanders, Raisin' Canes all missed the point) a phrase i have always wondered is in O ye people of the house of Israel, ye that dwell at Jerusalem....
Was his voice being heard in Jerusalem? Along with the spirit world and the inhabitants in the new world?
    Someone explain that to me?
