Another crushing moment when Ed talks about the passing of Akira Toriyama and how much it affected him. Augh. Love both of you guys and love these videos. Not sure how many of these we have left, but whatever the number is it's definitely not enough.
Like the whole CK family, I am still hurting, and praying for Ed, Jim, and family. It took me all week to have the strength to listen to one of these new episodes that Jim as dropped in honor of Ed's wishes. So bittersweet. Been a fan for quite awhile. You guy's have accompanied me on many of my hours long walks with my pooch while enjoying a nice cigar. I have found so much to ponder and laugh about through my many hours of listening. You guys are like little bros to this 64 year old. I am spending out a cosmic hug to Ed and hoping that one day I can deliver a physical one to Jim. Be well and let's all try to be nicer to each other.
I'd like to see you continue these vids, Jim. With guests and other makers. I think it'd be wonderful to see the continued growth of the audience and continuance of the idea. It's been a treat and thank you for the enthusiasm.
Every episode is more bittersweet to me than the last. We miss you, Ed. Jim, thank you for releasing these. I go through so many emotions listening to the episodes. It's cathartic but painful too. And yet I don't want them to end.
Calling Red Rocket 7 "Intergalactic Forrest Gump" Ed, I always love how you could come up with something like that on the spot. Miss you so fucking much.
Glad we got at least one last Wizard episode. I started watching CK when it was primarily a Wizard review channel, so these episodes are fun for me. Since then, the channel has completely changed how I view the art form - no exaggeration. Best to all of Ed’s family and friends. Hope to see Jim stay on here in one form or another after these videos run out.
The removal of Toy stuff to fill 'Toy Fare' magazine, and Trading cards to fill 'Insight' contributes to the reduction in girth. As well as the comics market's decline in general. I was expecting an AOL CD - not a floppy! I can't believe I used Girth and Floppy in the clean sense in the same comment.. :)
I vividly remember this issue of Wizard and also being blissfully unaware that the industry had hit rock bottom. In retrospect, thank God I never went into comics, for so many reasons. Long Live Cartoonist Kayfabe.
1:09:38 Based on the books I have from VIZ from 1997 and before, there is little to no cross promotion between anime and manga. Most of the promotion in the back of each manga comic book floppy was for other publications from VIZ, some even from Dark Horse actually. There likely wasn't any cross promotion for anime in manga until after 1998 when the TV program block Toonami (Cartoon Network) first started airing anime. That said, when VIZ started to publish the monthly editions of Shonen Jump outside of Japan in the early 2000s, they absolutely started to promote anime related to what was being shown. That said, I do not recall many, if any promotion for manga in any video release of anime. Possibly if it was related to VIZ, but it was at best a handbill promotion, but I may just be mistaking that for the mail-in-subscriptions for Shonen Jump. It's also worth noting that VIZ didn't really license much in the way of anime. That typically was handled by companies like Funimation. Cross promotion between manga and anime rarely happened early on.
If after all the back log videos end. If Jimmy dose not continue the channel, I hope they get the rest of gang together and do a final few to end the series. I’m hoping it will continue but I can also know it can be really hard to do emotionally.
I will never be able to thank for everything you taught me, and for all the company you gave me. Thanks Jim for continuing to upload the videos. At least for a little while, we forget that Ed is no longer with us, and the world is a slightly better place.
I appeared in that MTV Unfiltered video that Ed references around 58:00 (the one about comics, not the one about furries). Quite a pull from the Smith Brown Jones reference (creator of said comic, John Bean Hastings, shot the video). He sent me a VHS of it and I have it digitized somewhere.
RIP Ed! You’re in my prayers, man. Thanks, Jim, for uploading these. Keep’em coming. I loved your point of view and opinion in comics and culture in general. It amazed me how much interesting you made those comics talks, aside the reunions you had the opportunity to do (couldnt believe in eastman + laird). I’ll surely be watching some of those videos again.
On the manga/VIZ tip, cannot believe I used to pay $2.95 a month for a single floppy issue of manga... the same section someone in Japan would get inside a Weekly Shonen Jump of 500+ pages for the same (or lower!) price. It was brutal being an anime and manga fan back in the 90s.
I can confirm the sentiment @10:16. I was in the 5th and 6th grade, living at AMR military base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Every day I'd wake up before my sister to watch Sailor Moon before riding the bus to Mokulele elementary. God bless you, Ed. ❤
I went to a used bookstore with my kids. Looking for comics. I pulled out a few books including Carl Barks. I thought to myself, I wonder if the guys have this one. My four year old asked me “what’s this?” And I couldn’t see the book so I said “pull it out and see”. It was Mister Wonderful. Dan Clowes. I was a proud father. And I placed it in the buy pile. Thanks for everything. Kayfabe Forever.
This has been a heartbreaking time, even tho I didn't know ed personally I miss him. But hearing ed and jim laughing together and having a good time talking comics brings joy to myself and all the kayfabers. Rest In Power Ed🙏.
I'm so conflicted. I know Ed wanted vids to keep coming out and I havent missed a Wizard vid yet they're my favorite. But haven't watched a CK vid since the Toriyama vid. Ed said he wants to be remembered as someone who loves comics so I think it best to watch
1:11:02 TLDR: Armored Trooper Votoms is basically another version of Gundam (sort of), made by Sunrise, the same studio that made Gundam. It was first an anime, just like Gundam, and later was adapted into a manga, just like Gundam.
this shunts me back twice! glad Wizards are obtainable as reference of the pre-social/media epoch. our heat/cargo/plastic epoch could use more content like this - but angrier 🕊
RIP: ED-you're missed. Did 4 deployments to Iraq with the Texas Guard and lost lots of my buddies, some I watched die in front of my eyes. It was awful and tragic. My first deployment we lost 12 of our brothers to combat,my 2nd tour we lost 8 of our buddies, myself and an other sgt were severely wounded in this-MEAN-ambush.We both were flown back to our FOB,then flown to Ramstein Air Force hospitol in Germany.I stayed there for 3 1/2 months and the other sgt stayed there much longer than I. Was then flown back to Ft Hood,Tx ( now renamed Ft Carazos ) to rejoin my rear-d unit. SEMPER-FI
In a world full of mass murderers, serial rapists and crooked politicians, some people decided that it was a priority to come after an independent cartoonist from Pittsburgh. It says a lot about our society. RIP Ed
I am tricking myself that these videos won't come to a sudden stop.
... missing ya terribly, Ed
I know what you mean. It's like he is still here. I don't want it to end.....

Man, Jim needs to give us a warning
It's been hard for me to listen to these vids now. I miss Ed but I hope Jim continues the channel.
Out of context.
This comment showed up on an entirely different video, by a channel called "nobody".
youtube is getting screwwww-ee
Happy, sad and angry all at the same time to see this vid. Thank you so much for uploading, I'll never stop rinsing this awesome channel
Same!
😂

Go back and watch the Robert crumb interview they covered. He talks about his exact situation and it’s heartbreaking.
It’s about 19 minutes into the video. It randomly auto played for me.
Yeah.....hearing that... hurt. Ugh
🙏❤
God Bless you Jim. Hope you are well. It’s not your fault. You are a good man.
I have to admit that was a bit crushing to hear Ed announce the gallery showing of his artwork. RIP Ed ----

Last Wizard? This really hurts.
R.I.P. Ed Piskor, the world has lost an amazing person and incredible talented artist. You will be missed.
Can't thank you enough for posting the remaining backlog of vid Jim.
Cartoonist Kayfabe...........FOREVER!!!!!!
Damn the final Wizard. This is how I found the channel. I’m glad we get one more.
I'd like to see you continue these vids, Jim. With guests and other makers. I think it'd be wonderful to see the continued growth of the audience and continuance of the idea. It's been a treat and thank you for the enthusiasm.

I will miss the Wizard reviews. Thank you Jim. Rest in peace Ed.
RIP Ed. Thank you for posting this.
Calling Red Rocket 7 "Intergalactic Forrest Gump"
Ed, I always love how you could come up with something like that on the spot. Miss you so fucking much.
Rest in peace, Ed. It's absolutely tragic what's happened. There are no words. I just hope now he's finally found peace 💛
Ed will he missed by all. Thank you Jim for carrying the Kayfabe tourch! We all need this right now. Love to all! ❤
So happy to see a Wizard video this morning.

OMG! When the floppy came out I was expecting a bigger ‘WTF?’ Reaction from the boyz.
Rest in peace, Ed.
Thank you for sharing all this last videos Jim, much love to you and all family and friends.
Two brothers together
Talk to us when you are ready Jim. We need you bud.
We will never get the hear what Ed thought of Thunderbolts whenever he got around to reading them.
I vividly remember this issue of Wizard and also being blissfully unaware that the industry had hit rock bottom. In retrospect, thank God I never went into comics, for so many reasons. Long Live Cartoonist Kayfabe.

😢R.I.P GO EASY BRO
The first Wizard magazine I read was September 97, and was expecting to get your review on that one. 😢
Heartbroken, but grateful to see these videos still popping up on my feed. RIP Ed P.
Thanks Jim
Thank you for posting this Jim
"Your nose just grew Mike Carlin" haha!

That C3PO was illustrated by Killian Plunkett.
I'm glad he's fulfilling Ed's request from his last message. I didn't think he would. Sad situation.
Thanks!

I’m just going to go back to video one, when the uploads stop.
I'm so glad that the videos haven't stopped coming, but it is really sad seeing Ed's face or hearing his voice.
Thanks Jim.
This has been a heartbreaking time, even tho I didn't know ed personally I miss him. But hearing ed and jim laughing together and having a good time talking comics brings joy to myself and all the kayfabers. Rest In Power Ed🙏.
I'm glad these are being put out but it's gonna take me a while to come back to them. Thank you Ed and Jim. Long live CK

Thank you for posting this Jim. We all appreciate it so much. :)

Still my favorite TH-cam channel. Long live CK! Thank you for posting…

Damnit man... no more Eddie P going over wizard mag.... gawd this sucks. I'm so mad at the mob right now.
Really going to miss these, I still can’t believe it.
I bought Ramna as single issues.
Gonna miss Ed's pronunciations.
That Boba Fett was also by Cam Kennedy.

So surreal to hear Ed speaking in future tense about holy grails and books he wanted to add to the reading pile.

Man I hope Jim and Tom continue CK.
Every time Ed calls Jim "Jimmy"...damn.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
R.I.P Ed 🙏
