Real estate broker here: Does anyone remember what happened the LAST time the government decided to "help" folks buy homes that they could not afford? The resulting housing crash of 2006 caused a nationwide economic meltdown that, in many ways, was worse than the Great Depression. I PERSONALLY know desperate people who threw themselves off the Coronado Bay Bridge or hanged themselves in their garages. I know families that split up, nice folks who fell into drug and alcohol abuse, strong people who lost themselves within depression and other psycological illnesses and others who were further victimized by skyrocketing crime. Several of my aquaintances became irretrievably homeless. The real estate market & industry (and many other parts of society) STILL have not fully recovered. And, like typical American Communists, Kamala and Company have forgotten all about what the government caused less than 20 years ago and want to do it ALL OVER AGAIN!!
Causes of the housing crash was BANKS high and variable mortgage rates that made it hard to pay mortgages, lack of regulations, mostly greed through lenders. Not getting government help buying a home. Try another lie
I was there. And bank one took over the loan. And we lost the house. It was 30days make up all late payments or get out. We got out with a Los off 10k down payment. All those house payments were still better than paying rent.

1. antitrust, the sectors for building housing are kinked up with lack of job creation, and collusions and anticompetitive practices. they generally restrain the economy growth. it's NOT the house prices themselves that are price gouging, it's the antitrust through the rest of the housing industry. THIS ALSO INCLUDES, the selling of land from the government to the people, alot of land empty land that could have stuff built on it is blocked from the public from using it, this also kinks up the economy and has antitrust type of restraint on housing market.
2. financial crimes, and money launders, and alot of these types of folks come from outside of the usa, and come to the usa with a predatory mindset, they don't care about the best interests of the usa people. they'll launderer whatever money they need come to usa and reck havoc on the usa economy, and this also drives the prices up.

I had my closing costs rolled into my mortage. Then my realtor and mortage broker negotiated by adding it to the price offeing for the house. Didn't need the 20% down, had to pay a PMI for the first 20%. So, it can be done. You don't need a whopping boatload of money up front. Things can be negotiated.
