I would say drop the pan, check for debris, pull the pump and inspect, it may have debris or be failing already. if neither of those are the issue then pull a main bearing and inspect. lucky for you, you've got a lift. Doing it on a concrete floor or pulling the motor to do it would really suck, so at least you can do this stuff without pulling the motor. As far as the carb, Im in camp of keeping the Edelbrock. I had zero luck with the Rochester's and tossed it. You might want to give Squeak Bell a call, he might have an answer. If you need his number let me know.
As hard as it is to hear sometimes,,,just bite it,,,and rebuild it again. Like you said, it’s a unique car and it’s unique with its ORIGINAL engine. Keep it that way. Honestly, I watch your channel mainly for Lil’ Debbie. The other projects are great but I love watching your progress with her. I have a couple Buick’s that beat me up now and then but that’s part of it sometimes. I love them so it’s fine in the end. Just rebuild it and get her running good and you’ll be happy you did down the road.
Side Bar.....the pressure relief valve in the oil pump is plugged from detritus during engine break-in? ps..the Caesar salad stayed with me. What did you eat for dinner?
Sorry to see all that glitter. Hate to say this, but pull the valve covers off and check the rockers for loose ones. It may be eating the lifters. If not, then pull the pan and check the bottom end. Mains rods and oil pump. Pro tip on the carb gasket, rub grease on it. It won't stick to the carb or manifold/spacer. Sure do hate to see it. You guys worked hard on that.
I feel sick. My Caesar's Salad isn't sitting well. You can't quit, the world's watching. Maybe start with easy stuff- -drop the pan and look for shit -take apart the oil pump, it might be in self destruct mode. - pull the plugs and check inside - maybe your interior plug disintegrated. - put dye in the new oil filter and run the motor for 30 seconds and use a UV light My guess is the oil pump is bad acting...suicidal Edelbrock won't fix the oil glitter. Many Cadillac people say STAY with orig Rochester as the GM engineers put many millions of them into the Cattle Trucks....don't do it! I'm so sad, I could cry......call the Professor.

Yea im kind of with Don, drop the pan and pull a main bearing and check its condition, then plastigauge it and go from there.
Try a different oil gauge (long shot)
Run 15/40 Rotella for Few 100 miles then put zinc additives along with 20/50 and a new filter. Send it. It will be fine

I suppose that new oil pump could be shitting the bed already. All good suggestions! Thanks, Don!
