      I dont think other forms of labor are the same thing as selling access to your genitals and inside parts. Would you go to a restaurant and expect to eat your meal out of your server's mouth? He did deliberately appeal to the lowest common denominator to make the case against it look more inane than it is, though - and I don't support making it illegal.
      It's a tad over propagandizing when he's the one playing devil's advocate badly; be better if he got someone that supports the other side that doesn't appeal to religious hang ups like the woman in the video (since there is a practical case to be made separate of religion).

    • @anon8206

      @@euphoricatheist6694 Without religion (mainly Christianity and Catholicism) societies collapse into degeneracy.
      Look at California as an example (or even Portland, Oregon). Human feces are all over the streets, needles are all over the streets, insane amount of homeless, lots of gays, crime, prostitution, etc.
      Then you see that areas that are mostly Christian in first-world countries are the safest and nicest.

      @euphoricatheist6694 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@anon8206 While I agree that society collapses without religiosity, the case can be made that this is the Christians' fault in the first place. It was Christian societies that pushed the LGBTQRSJWHIV movement and enabled all that degeneracy with its overemphasis on tolerance and non-judgement.
      It's ironic that the alphabet people blame Christianity for people being repulsed by them, claiming if it weren't for Christianity they'd have had all they demanded in no time - yet it's lost on such people that while Christian societies were promoting gay marriage, gay adoption and all that crap, it was many years before non-Christian societies (most of East Asia) permitted such insanity. Most non-religious societies (essentially every Communist society, for instance) outright rejected the institutionalization of gay marriage, for which there was no precedent in thousands of years of human history and was a radical idea to begin with.
      It was only because of Christians' insane overemphasis on tolerance and non-judgement and all that kumbaya love is love crap that they got this far, and now they are biting the hand that feeds them.

Look weed has been proven a lot of times to be way less dangerous then alcohol and cigarettes and it isn't that harmful to people with fully developed brains. So, there's no moral reason to make it illegal and if it is then it is a win-win scenario. People get to buy weed at their local convenient store while the government can regulate it and get money from weed taxes. See, it's best for everyone if it's legal.
      Same goes for prostitution. Government gets money and people get to have sex. Heck, since it is legal it'd actually be better because no it's regulated. Prostitutes would actually have better working rights. STD's could be more easily prevented by making sure that the prostitutes get tested every few months and make it illegal to not have sex without a condom. Wrong again. Let's use Sweden as an example - things that the USA would not report as even sexual assault are considered rape there. They changed their laws, and so the reported number of "rapes" went way up. The same happened here in the 60s and 70s - we changed the laws and reporting procedures and it appeared that crime skyrocketed - but it did not. It did go up some, but not to the degree the reported numbers show - not even close. The Swedes have not only made it far easier to report sex crimes and run PR programs to get people to do it, but they broadened the definition of rape. Amsterdam has basically zero drug crimes - because most drugs are legal. They have almost no prostitution crimes - because it is legal. But they still have plenty of drugs and hookers. You need to look deeper into the data before drawing conclusions. Another example - there were Republicans claiming that unemployment under Obama was nearly 50% (Trump was one) that is based on a perfectly valid statistic that includes every living human in the USA for newborn babies to the retired. What they don't tell you is that under Reagan that stat was higher.
      Don't be so easily fooled by fear mongers.

      Or translated:
      "I'm a mom and I know what's best for all these adult women who choose to prostitute."
      I honestly think prostitution is illegal because it all comes down to biology. It gives any working man options on where to get his sex. Take away these options, and women can get more out of a relationship (commitment and resources in the form of dates or gifts for initial or continued access)without having to put out as often and consistently. It basically forces men to be completely dependent on their spouse for their sexual urges. Until porn came out though.

      @M M I have friends, with no sex, who were prostitutes both in the US and abroad. Where it was legal the prostitutes had a far better life and were in a better way in all respects than those here in the US in locations where it is illegal.

    • @tmac2744
      @tmac2744 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @M M Hey, it's cool. If your only encounters are with individuals that were in the profession here in the US, then I would have to agree with you on how their lives are, outside of Nevada (excluding Las Vegas which has the same problem as everywhere else it is illegal).
      Something I would like to bring up for your consideration is this: If we legalize prostitution here in the US, we can bring it under the regulation of OSHA, which can then put in health and safety regulation, such as regular drug testing and regular STD testing, for the workers. Licensing would also be required, like in Amsterdam, Australia, and Germany (among other countries where it is legal), which take those health considerations into account.
      Again, I will state that it isn't a profession I would like to see a family member in, but I am adamant that people be allowed to make their own choices in life, even if I disagree.

    • @tmac2744
      @tmac2744 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @M M How many have a choice? That depends on if they were forced into it through human trafficking or not. People traded as commodities don't get a say, and according to the Federal Human Trafficking Report, >95% of their cases involved the sex trade. So, no, those individuals had NO choice. They were exploited by criminals to fill a void created by having prostitution illegal in the US (outside Nevada).
      The others who get into the trade, choose to do so. In Nevada, and countries where it is legal, this is often, as seen by the ladies in the video, a considered choice. In locations where it is illegal, it is still sometimes a considered choice. Do some people feel pressured into it for various reasons? Yeah, that happens. But that happens for all professions. I know doctors who are only in the profession because it was expected by their family, but they aren't happy and want to do something else.
      You are correct, people in modern society are having more and more difficulty taking personal responsibility. That, however, says more about how families teach their kids today, than about our current topic. If parents don't teach their kids responsibility, then you can't expect it from them as adults. Going down that line of thinking leads to "people need the government to tell them how to live their lives." Letting the government decide your life for you is a VERY SCARY idea.
      For my final point, I think it should be legalized, as prohibition laws only bring in peripheral associated crimes that go along with the thing you make illegal. In the case of alcohol in the 1920s there were a whole host of crimes including: murder, illegal manufacture, smuggling, illegal sales and distribution, extortion, tax evasion (what got Al Capone in the end), and more. Marijuana has similar issues, but in states where it has been legalized, the peripheral crimes have dropped to negligible levels.
      Legalizing prostitution would lessen or eliminate most of the peripheral crimes, and other problems you mentioned. Keeping it illegal just keeps the cycle of crime running. At least while legalized we can ensure the health and safety of the workers and patrons, something that is currently lacking.
      What we are doing with keeping prostitution illegal, is legislating morality, which is a problem. When the government tells you what you can and can't do behind closed doors, you no longer have freedom. North Carolina already has some laws like that on the books (the only legal position is missionary and oral sex is completely illegal), but they aren't regularly enforced...at this time. Keep that in mind while considering whether sex should be illegal.

There are those who think other people's bodies and property belong to them, and there are those who do not. The important conflict now is between libertarians and totalitarians. Wouldn't that make more sense by their logic? Not saying they should arrest anyone in the sex work industry unless they are legitimately causing harm to the workers or the customers though. I'm just hypothesizing what would make more sense because the way the law goes about treating sex workers is very backwards and hypocritical.
