    I loved this race. It demonstrates why so many Olympic 1500s have been slower, kicker’s races with runners saving themselves for the end while the leader failed to medal. Then this one is a FAST kicker’s race, with Hocker showing he was fit enough to pull it off. I hope this is the way this race continues to go in the future, but I suspect no one will be willing to do what Ingebritson tried. He thought he was like Mondo in pole vaulting, way ahead of his competition and able to dictate the ending. Not anymore.

    Very brave run by Jakob. People saying he went too hard, there’s no other way he could’ve run - going that hard was his best strategy. He would’ve got out kicked by Cole even if he had gone out a smidge slower.

    • @michaeldeierhoi4096
      @michaeldeierhoi4096 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Are you an experienced middle distance runner? The fact is when any runner pushes the pace too much they have less available at the finish. Given Ingebrigsen's history if he had controlled his pace early on he might have been the one to set a world record or at least come closer. But ultimately we will never know.
      Rest assured Jacob will likely remember this mistaken strategy.

    • @_NPJ
      @_NPJ 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@michaeldeierhoi4096 yes, I understand that, but the same thing applies to hocker, Kerr, and Nuguse. If they all had run slightly slower, then they also would have had more in the tank to out kick Jakob, noting the kick isn’t his strength. They’ve proven they can out kick him even in a 3:27 race so it’s hard to imagine they wouldn’t do the same in a 3:29 or slower. But I take your point, perhaps if the pace was exactly the same but just someone else doing the work to keep that pace instead of Jakob (say Cheriuyot) maybe Jakob has more left over? He’s also been out kicked in slightly slower races by Kerr and Wightman though so I really don’t imagine he’d have placed any better if he didn’t go out as hard. I think his best chance was to go hard and try to run the legs out of the others, but even that didn’t work, so it’s hard to say what he’ll do from here.

    • @michaeldeierhoi4096
      @michaeldeierhoi4096 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@_NPJ You can speculate all you want, but it proves nothing. Besides if anyone had run at a slower pace they would have had more ground to make up at the finish. So it's a balance between not going out too fast not going to slow in order to stay in touch with the leaders.
