Don't use rigid connectors unless you make your pedals literally unmovable. Normal velctro won't do the trick, as the hook and loop construction allows still a tiny bit of movement. Those tiny movements are a problem, as your jacks are normaly directly soldered to the PCB of your pedal (some older or boutique pedals have the jacks connected with wires to the PCB, but those are rare nowadays). Any movement does stress on those solder joints and they can break or become unstable. And movement will happen with velcro as the are called stompboxes for a reason. There is industrial strength tape with little mushrooms hooking into each other. Called 'dual lock' by 3M or 'PowerGrip' from PowerAll or similar. There are other locking systems, like special plates and so on. But whetever you do: Don't use rigid connectors on a board which uses normal velcro.
This comment needs to be higher. Rigid coupler type connectors have no give and can wreck the input and output jacks of a pedal. Spend the extra two dollars and get something that won't require a visit to the repair shop down the line.
I agree. It has been a while since I made the video but I think I make mention of the fact that couplers can damage your pedals. If not, take these guys advice :D
If you really want to learn about patch cables, look up 79 cables tested on TH-cam. Excellent source of info. I use EBS Gold flat and they don't rate real well but I have approximately 15 on my board and they work fantastic for over a yr now. 13 pedals on my board and hookups for 4 off the board including tap tempo. No problems w/ noise, space, movement or in transporting board around town.

No marks on the gold plating, no tone loss, no cables not working even the 1 I accidentally sliced. Threw some electrical tape around the cut and use whenever I need it. I bought these in groups of 6 to 10 at a time, made offer to seller and ended up getting each size at $6 to 7 each. 1 of the best pieces of equipment I ever bargained for. So happy with these cause I don't even think about these being a problem anymore.

My 40 years of experience as a professional audio engineer/musician is that sometimes the high quality high price cables are overkill. One of my credos is that it’s only rich people who can afford to buy cheap stuff, because they can afford to buy another, if it fails. Of course I prefer to use the Mogami/Neutrik cables I carefully soldered myself, but… You have to consider the context. There are different aspect if you buy/make a 20 feet cable for a running-around-throwing-the-guitar-up-in-the-air-guitarist as opposed to a short patch cable that lies in a “permanent” position, only affected by the vibrations during transport. I’ve use a lot of low budget molded-end cables on keyboard rigs, mixers, pedal boards and even on no-board set ups, without a hitch. And I’ve had (store bought) high-end cables fail during gigs. So it’s not that clear cut. And it’s also important to realise that electrical cables/wires are designed to withstand pulling and twisting forces. And it takes a lot more material to withstand pulling and twisting forces than it does to pass electrical current. The stiff "installation" cables used for solder-less connections are a special case. The gist being to avoid twisting and/or bending it "excessively". If a cable comes from reasonably serious cable manufacturer it will carry your signal just fine. The critical points are the connections between the cables and the plugs. I won’t go into the finer points of the capacitance/inductance…, “breaking in” debate. My main point is that if it passes audio and it sounds good, it is good. And if you make a set-and-forget installation on a pedalboard, you will, most likely, get by just fine using even the cheapest cable from a reputable dealer. But shit happens, sometimes twice😉
Right now all of my cables are Monster Cable my father got them for my brother & I to use & advertise when we started out. My dad's retired & doesn't have the ability to get them I assume if they even make them anymore? Once they're connected nothing moves that doesn't have too.

These cables have been on my board for over 4 years. So for me , my proof is reliable in every situation so far. EBS has proven its value to me. None of the gold has worn down on any of the cables. I have many of all the sizes.

mx r cant be number one they have cobra heads any cable with cobra heads if you have quality pedals tthey have 2 ins and outs side by side heads dont fit next to each head they head butt thats why ebs number 1 you can actually use them on every pedal

Yeah they're definitely not cheap. But in my experience I'd rather pay up for something I know will stand the test of time as opposed to skimping on cheaper cables and landing up spending more replacing them.
Yeah, you look at a 6 inch cable that costs almost as much as a ten foot cable, and it's annoying. Problem is, the cable part is the cheapest part of the whole cable.
And if you care to know, I've been using EBS for 4yrs on my board and around in my music room. No problems ever. Even 1 that I sliced a nick in the rubber. How I got these was I picked the size and made a offer to the seller to get about a dollar fifty off the price per piece. So ordering 10 at a time I was getting them for about $7 a piece for the 4" . Up to about $9 a piece for the 28"s. I still got some brand new untouched. And picked up some others shorts from other companies cheap so when that other guy who never brings enough of their own gear says "Can I use a couple of those?" That way I don't lose the 1's I like. Also I used a crazy nail polish color on everything I own. Just a drop in a hidden place is my identification mark. Mark you own stuff so your broke ass friends don't end up with your equipment..
Hey! They are pretty much the same thing The only difference is the length of the cable. Patch cables are generally a lot shorter than regular guitar cables. Hope that answers your question :)

Every cable I have patch and instrument has gold ends because they sound better than silver to me. I can hear the difference. My cables cost me about $250 and worth it to me. I get a very transparent pure sound.
You've tricked yourself into thinking you can hear a difference lol. You probably spend $100 on an HDMI cable too because you swear you can see a difference 🤣.

I understand and accept that many other guitar players have different opinions. I've been playing since 2005 and I've tried a lot of different gear so I review only gear that I've used. Nutrix cable connectors if you can solder these are extremely quiet well made built like a tank from NASA, Hahahahahaha . Use microphone cable take the extra line for an extra ground keep your cables from becoming an antenna which in turn makes it extremely quiet ! Don't take my word ? look it up ☆...

I use planet waves patch cable and guitar cable almost 3 years,good quality and quiet too.

It takes less space if right angle plugs are used. It’s hard to tell a pedal that has its I/O in some way that a straight plug fits better
