I use 2 - O rings crossed over each other and put the hook at the crossover point. Stays at a 90゚ angle 👍

Cool rigging Matt. Thanks for the video. Similar to other comments, I saw another cool option from Debo’s Fishing where you use two O rings, and hook the X where the two rings cross and getting that perpendicular hook as well. That perpendicular hook is critical however you get there!

I use a piece of heat shrink tubing. They come in different colors and sizes. You can also heat the tubing with a lighter to make it fit snug. You wont melt the worm unless you over heat the tubing. Better and stronger than any o rings and a better hook orientation.

Great tip Matt, But do it my way also and let us know if you like it. Use electrical tape(Waterproof 3M recommended) and turn it one or two times around where you want to put your hook and fish with it all season😁

Try a mini hair rubber bands. You can double it up, and where the x is you can get the hook the right way and still use very few baits. Plus the hair ties are easier, and cheaper than using 2 o-rings

That’s a great idea. I’ve used 2 prongs and position them in a x. That holds good but the prongs still tear the worms. Like your method much better. I’ll be trying that this year. Thanks for the great videos.

I like using the eco pro tungsten whacky weight… it has a wire loop you slide up into the middle of the worm and run you hook through and it puts your weight just under your work too which gives it a good fall… but I do like your plastic dot trick I’ll have to try it out.

try using 2 o rings crossed insert hook behind the x then the hook will be in the right place

You can put on 2 o-rings without having to cross them. Thread hook under one o-ring, then over and back under the other one and the rings are now crossed over the hook.

  • @wesstewart9264

Take a really small rubber hair tie, twist it to double the band. Where the X is created insert your hook perpendicular to the worm. It is the easiest, cheapest way to rig the wacky rig "correctly" and still save the worm

  • @johndeluca1614
    @johndeluca1614 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good tip. Innovative idea to use a disc of plastic inserted into the worm. I've found that piece of rubber tubing, like what's used on spinnerbait trailer hooks, works pretty well. It keeps the worm from casting off, like sometimes happens when using a single o ring, and lets you hook the worm perpendicular or parallel if you prefer. The rubber tubing works well too and pretty much the same way as shrink tubing ,but you don't have to heat it.

Back in the early 1970s when BASS and Bassmaster Magazine were both in their infancy, Bob Cobb bought an article from me where, using a paper hole punch and a plastic lid, I was able to create little plastic circles I used to keep an Uncle Josh pork chunk from coming off a jig hook. I still use the method today primarily for plastic baits. It was the beginning of a part-time writing career.

I remember that! That was back in the days when it was the 'B.A.S.S.('s) Master magazine' -in other words, it was the Master Magazine of B.A.S.S. .The 'BASSMASTERS' moniker was a (genius) marketing move that Montgomery dubbed all anglers participating in Open and Pro/Am events. Then came the TV show of the same name. Somewhere in the mid to late 80s, it became 'BASSMASTER' Magazine. As you can see, I too, grew up with B.A.S.S. as it was headquartered near my home.

Ok what I do is take a piece of clear tubing and cut it about a 1/4 of a inch wide and drill 2 small holes through it then slide it over the worm then I push the hook through the 2 holes and it’s perpendicular thru the worm

  • @dave4327

I wonder about a single wrap of electrical tape. You could cut the roll in half on a band saw to make it pretty unobtrusive on most natural color baits. Cut the wrap with scissors so you don't get a curly tag end. Wrap it fairly tight so it doesn't slip off from the oil on the bait, but not so hard as to squish it.

I use the clear shrink wrap too. Works great for wacky and Neko rigs. Hook is held at the right angle and definitely avoids worm rolling over. It’s a little time consuming (similar “little chore”) but using a big candle you can roll the worms quickly. Highly recommend!

  • @jamesschnell4919

This is a good idea. I like to use shrink tubing and heat it so it adheres to the worm. I can then punch my hook through both the worm and tubing and it gets me tons of fish catches on one worm.

@@MattStefanFishing silicone tubing works better then shrink tubing. Get yourself 20 feet of silicone tubing from Amazon, cut it up, and use your needle nose to stretch it and put your worm. Bonus is I typically just put it down an inch, then slowly pull the tubing to the middle, which stirs up all the salt on the way down. Works great and it's quick and cheap.
