  • Hey guys, today it's the ultimate 80s guitar battle with the Kramer Baretta Special going head to head with the Jackson JS11. These are the cheapest guitars from both brands, so I think it's a fair fight. And joining me in this ultimate guitar duel is my buddy Joe, aka Thrash Potato! Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe.

Great video! I have 2 Kramers actually made in the early 80s, 82 & 84 made in the USA and I have 2 Jacksons, a Dinky made in Japan and RR V made in China. I love the old Kramers but the Jacksons are great guitars also so you can't really go wrong with either one. All Jacksons have really great comfortable necks no matter the price point.

The outcome of this was totally predictable on both ends, so the shocked horror look on your face when Potato said he’d pick the Kramer was priceless! 😂😂😂

Good thing that desert island has a huge solar powered amp! 🏝 You guys are both amazing. JOE: you've been in my continued thoughts & prayers man! 🙏 I've gotta go with the Jackson by a nose. 🐎 I have very small hands and am really learning to appreciate the thinner necks. They both sounded like totally rad!

To me the Kramer just sounds better, more full tone, the Jackson sounds good at higher registers but is muddy in some aspects. I love the Jackson Talon style headstock over the Hockey stick.

Always favored Jackson/Charvel guitars since before I could play as a kid seeing them in magazines & on Albums, I would eventually find out that they play as amazing as they looked. I owned one of the recent Kramer Pacers & I feel like it was an excellent guitar for the $200 I paid for it, though I just didn't fall in live with it. The Jackson Neck Profile just feels soo soo perfect/comfy in my hand. Thank you for making this engaging video & sharing you Amazing energy😁

I have a Kramer Strat with an HSS setup. Love it! It's the fastest guitar neck I have of all my Strats. It's light grey. I swapped the pickguard to black from white and did a full setup. I've never played a Jackson. I play Teles, Strats, and LP type guitars. I have 1 double cutaway.

I can’t say 100 percent for sure but I own a Beretta Special and the string spacing feels more narrow than my old Ibanez RG but it feels almost the same as every dinky I’ve ever picked up. I don’t think there’s enough difference in string spacing to make a difference , the Kramer is supposed to have a 12in Radius and I’m not sure what the Jackson has. The Kramer neck is flat compared to a vintage strat but it’s a lot rounder feeling that my RG I believe is a 16or17 in radius. My Kramer was unplayable out of the box, but I suspect most guitars in this price range would be needing a set up to unplayable out of the box. The fret ends were sharp out of the box on my Kramer but honestly there was nothing that anyone couldn’t fix while doing their first string change.
In my opinion the biggest difference between these two besides the Jackson has a neck pickup would be the placement of the bridge pickup, I prefer a straight bridge pickup with the pole pieces closer to the bridge, this makes a bigger difference in tone than you might think. If you have a chance to try them out I’d say do that but don’t be surprised if the Kramer doesn’t have the string definition to really “chug” out of the box. If you prefer a fatter bridge sound than it’s the Kramer all the way.

I have always been a Super Strat guitar player all my life, my go to guitar, I have owned the longest and only guitar I own that's insured, my 2006 Ibanez S520EX, bought it new, changed pickups to Demarzio PAF-Joe in the neck and Demarzio Fred in the Bridge, professionally setup in Memphis TN, and the stars must have been aligned because damn, I have had so many guitar players play this guitar and were shocked at how good it played and sounded to be a mid line guitar.

Me personally: I like Jacksons: And The Kramer Berretta! But I've tried to stay away From Guitars With Floyed Tremolo Systems . Fr one Whenn you break a String You have to Re tune the Guitar And what I've found out is that A standard 2 point System or A guitar with a fixed bridge is much more easier to maintain.

no idea about jacksons, but the Baretta's neck (at least on the vintage) and the Pacer's, is around 1mm thicker on the first fret and 2mm on the 12 than an ibanez wizard III.
so not chunky by any means, specially if you have big hands.

Would pick the jackson. I'm a strat guy and I love the strats on real thin. But I have a squire That was a limited additional while back. I have a black head.Start the big head.Stait's not paint a black like the rest of the guitar.Chrome pick guard mirror. And it's got a compound radius Mac and a pretty good, but you get up that neck. The thinner gets and I love it.. Who's Jackson next to their school? You should do it. I have two black guitars (Ibanez and Fesley) and two white guitars (Jackson and Fender), and I have to say...both black and white are just boring colors. The white Jackson is less boring than the Fender because the pickups and the hardware are black, and the black Fesley is a little less boring than the Ibanez because the pickups are white, but overall, both white and black guitars need the other color in them. Like a white Fender with a black pickguard, white pickups, and black hardware or something like that.
And yes, every guitar needs at least two pickups: bridge and neck, though I have to admit, I prefer the sound of a single coil in the neck to a humbucker.

I would give the nod to the Jackson, however, a vintage non-Gibson Kramer reigns supreme. I am fully versed in all of the mental jiujitsu and professional setup-ology to always have the ability to correctly answer "Not-Gibson," so you would be correct to suggest I have something of an emotional bias. Jacko HH layout does lend itself to more versatile playing for a bit less of the bullshitery reply, in all honesty however. Handy if you encounter a native tribesman who prefers to play lead and youd like to not wind up in the desert island volcano.
