- 멕시코시티에서는 맛집 투어를 하며 길거리 타코를 맛보고, K-Food를 지키면서 널리 알리고 있는 현지 맛집도 방문했다.
마치 서울 마포에 있을 것 같은 찐 돼지갈비와 김치찌개를 먹으면서 세계 일주 내내 그리웠던 고향의 맛을 통해 원기를 충전했다.
이제는 세계 일주 중간에 지친 몸을 쉬게 할 카리브해에 있는 지상 최고의 낙원, 오매불망 꿈에 그리던 칸쿤으로 떠난다.
칸쿤은 멕시코시티에서 항공기로 2시간 20분 거리 남동부에 있는 휴양도시로, UN 산하 세계관광기구의 인증을 받은 관광 특화 도시이다.
그 중에서도 최고의 휴양지는 칸쿤 호텔존으로, 이곳은 도시 동부에 위치하며 칸쿤 섬(Isla Cancún) 전체를 차지하고 있습니다. 보통 칸쿤에 간다고 하면 이쪽으로 가게 된다.
호텔에서 제공한 교통편으로 도시를 지나 바다로 가는 길, 양옆으로 펼쳐진 카리브해의 에메랄드빛 바다가 멕시코 특유의 태양빛을 받아 더욱더 푸르게 빛나고 있다.
해안선을 따라 형성된 쿠쿨칸 대로(Blvd. Kukulcán)는 도시의 간선도로 역할을 하며, 이 도로와 바닷가 사이에 해변이 형성되어 있어 호텔과 수상 스포츠 시설 등이 들어서 있다.
이 외에도 섬 안에서 모든 일을 해결할 수 있도록 관광객을 위한 레스토랑과 술집, 클럽, 쇼핑몰 등이 자리하고 있다.
짐 캐리 주연의 영화 '마스크'로 유명한 코코 봉고도 이 구역에 있으며, 밤마다 칸쿤 전체의 관광객이 몰려들어 인산인해를 이룬다.
칸쿤이 다른 도시와는 달리 미국인이나 캐나다인 관광객에 맞춰 개발되었기 때문에 이곳에 들어서는 순간 미국에 온 것 같은 착각을 일으킨다.
2014년 이후 칸쿤이 한국에도 널리 알려지면서 신혼여행지로 새롭게 떠오르며 지금까지도 많은 한국인들이 여행을 오고 있다.
우리가 머물게 된 리조트는 All-Inclusive로, 공항 셔틀 왕복, 숙박 기간 동안 모든 식사, 리조트 내 모든 시설, 음료, 술 등이 포함된 럭셔리 리조트이다.
이러한 편리함 때문에 신혼부부들이 많이 찾는데 가격이 비싸기는 하지만 전 세계의 모든 음식을 맛볼 수 있는 전문 음식점이 6개나 있고, 해양 스포츠와 전용 비치가 있어서 커플만 즐길 수 있게 어른 전용 호텔로 운영되고 있다.
우리는 오전에 도착해서 보통 체크인은 2시 이후에 하기 때문에 컨시어지에 짐을 맡겨 두고 호텔 뒤 풀장과 카리브해가 보이는 Sushi Bar로 갔다.
음식을 주문하기 위해서는 호텔 어디에서든지 팔에 차고 있는 파란색 멤버십 팔찌를 보여주기만 하면 된다.
팔찌는 멤버십의 등급을 표시하며, 색에 따라 올인클루시브, 조식만 포함, 숙박만 이용하는 등급 등으로 나뉜다.
우리는 이왕이면 칸쿤에서 제대로 즐기기 위해 올인클루시브를 선택했지만, 가격이 만만치 않다.
Viva Mexico는 풀장 바로 옆에 있어서 풀장에서 놀다가 언제든지 타코와 햄버거, 핫도그 등 간편식을 먹을 수 있는데, 편리성은 물론 미국식 맛 그대로 중간 식사로 훌륭하다.
호텔 풀장은 여러 크기로 나뉘어져 있으며, 풀장 주변에는 항상 쉴 수 있는 파라솔과 비치 썬베드가 있어 물놀이를 하다가 배가 고프면 풀장 바나 바로 옆 레스토랑에서 식사와 시원한 음료, 맥주 등을 즐길 수 있다.
숙박 기간 내내 지루할 틈이 없다. 밤에는 숙박객들을 위해 호텔에서는 노래자랑대회나 풀 파티를 열어 멕시코만이 가진 열정과 환락의 세계를 제공한다.
칸쿤 호텔존 리조트에서 멕시코 밤의 열기는 점점 더 열정과 환락의 세계로 달려가고, 밤이 깊도록 식을 줄 모른다.
칸쿤의 낙원에서 보내는 시간은 말 그대로 꿈만 같다. 세계 일주 중간에 지친 몸과 마음을 치유하며, 멕시코의 다채로운 문화를 경험하고 맛있는 음식을 마음껏 즐기는 이 시간은 평생 잊지 못할 추억이 될 것이다.
In Mexico City, I embarked on a culinary tour, sampling street tacos and visiting local restaurants that are popular for preserving the authentic flavors of K-Food. Enjoying rich pork ribs and kimchi stew that felt like they were straight out of Seoul's Mapo district, I recharged my energy with the taste of home that I had missed throughout my world tour. Now, I’m heading to Cancun, a paradise in the Caribbean that I have dreamed of visiting, to rest my weary body.
Cancun, a resort city located in the southeastern part of Mexico, is a two-hour and twenty-minute flight from Mexico City. It is a tourism-specialized city certified by the UN World Tourism Organization. Among the top destinations in Cancun is the Hotel Zone, which occupies the entire Isla Cancún in the eastern part of the city. When people say they're going to Cancun, this is usually where they head.
The drive to the beach provided by the hotel transportation service revealed the stunning emerald blue waters of the Caribbean Sea on both sides of the road, reflecting the brilliant Mexican sunlight. Blvd. Kukulcán, the main road formed along the coastline, functions as the city's main artery, with beaches, hotels, and water sports facilities lining the seafront. Additionally, the island is equipped with tourist-friendly restaurants, bars, clubs, and shopping malls to ensure visitors have everything they need. The famous Coco Bongo, featured in the Jim Carrey movie "The Mask," is also located in this area, attracting crowds of tourists every night.
Cancun is where American and Canadian cultures are most prominently displayed in Mexico. Developed to cater to American and Canadian tourists, entering Cancun can feel like stepping into the United States.
The resort we stayed at for five days was an all-inclusive luxury resort, covering airport shuttles, all meals during the stay, and access to all facilities, drinks, and alcohol, all included in the price. Such convenience makes it a popular choice for honeymooners. Although expensive, the resort offers six specialty restaurants serving cuisine from around the world, water sports, and a private beach, operating as an adults-only hotel to provide a romantic atmosphere for couples.
The hotel pools come in various sizes, and there are always parasols and beach sunbeds available around the pools, allowing guests to relax and enjoy meals or refreshing drinks and beer from the pool bar or nearby restaurants whenever they get hungry. There is never a dull moment during the stay. In the evenings, the hotel hosts karaoke contests or pool parties for the guests, offering a taste of the passion and excitement that only Mexico can provide. The nightlife at Cancun Hotel Zone resorts continues to heat up, heading towards a world of fervor and pleasure, unceasing deep into the night.
Spending time in Cancun's paradise feels like a dream come true. This period of healing my weary body and soul in the middle of a world tour, experiencing Mexico’s vibrant culture and indulging in delicious food, will be an unforgettable memory for a lifetime.
