I actually pulled that sweep off (4:44) at a JJWL tournament recently. It's also my bread and butter. This is one of the few sweeps that work on ultra heavy weights.
Cross sleeve is my jam. On your oma plata, try passing the sleeve to your hand that’s around his leg, then it’s completely isolated and your original grip hand can attack the elbow to open it. It’s a more secure oma plata IMO. It also prevents them from stepping over.
Man, I’ve been trying to figure out the best open guard for me lately. I’ve been getting passed more than I like with butterfly. I love this set up and would like to see it live when someone is actively trying to pass. Thank you for this. Oss.
I use it a lot against pressure passers but don’t have too much footage of it being used. You will probably see more collar sleeve and spider lasso in tournaments though
Hey Alec...great videos. Would you say being parallel/angle when in guard in superior (like in this video, head next to leg) to facing forward like most guards. (Bottom guard is linear to top guy) 🤔
I like this guard because I struggle to be strong enough to expose the hip on collar sleeve- this grip exposes so much. I like to cross sleeve and reinforce with tricep or elbow grip. Thoughts on that?
@@AlecBaulding Nice, I know what you are talking about I think standard Judo grips he has our lapel we have his tricep on that side, we pull guard foot on that same side hip then tripod sweep or switch to cross sleeve setup?
This needs more recognition. You are awesome coach!

Saulo Ribeiro and Jared Weiner play this guard. It is also called 2 on 1 sleeve or shotgun guard.
From one Alec to another your videos are awesome.
Thanks you 🙏🏾
Awesome stuff!!
Exactly what I have been looking . Give thanks

good content man keep it up!
Thanks 🙏🏾
Great job! Any fights to watch with this cross sleeve guard?
It’s actually not that popular lol. I think Isaac doderlin uses it in his matches in addition to the sit up guard

How to pull cross sleeve guard would be nice I have my idea how to but might be a better way
There’s actually a move that leads right into the tripod sweep that also works for the cross sleeve guard

Who plays this guard in high level competition? Apart from tommy and epsen
Well I play it lol. Also cobrinha, Kennedy and Isaac play their cross sleeve with their sit up guard.
Jon thomas
Mikey too
