    You are so organized and have great ideas on what you need and bring it to reality. All your animals look very clean and we'll taken care of. It's great that you have your Dad to help you on projects. I held my daughter on projects around her home as well and I really enjoy it. You have given me the bug to get back into raising rabbits again. Take care and stay warm next week. Larry

    Chickens and predators: in the neighborhood when my two sons live on a farm, there is a quite large chicken operation. Their whole operational area is enclosed. The chicken coops are inside of it as well as the roaming area for the birds. There also small trees inside as well. And when I say, "enclosed" I mean ENCLOSED! The sides of the yard are enclosed of course, but so is what is in effect a roof/ceiling. We have eagles here as well as the other smaller raptors, so that over-head screening is for that. As well as raccoons etc. that might want to climb in over the side fencing. By the way, this is a family hobby-type operation. I've never seen them set out any notices of "Eggs For Sale". As you might imagine the whole thing is very impressive. This type of enclosure would allow you to have your flock outside whenever. Hope this helps. 😇 P.S. their flock is exclusively Rhode Island Reds (or the equivalent - I'm not up on chicken breeds but that is what their chickens resemble. 🙂

      You're probably right that their flock is RIR, but if you're curious what other breeds have the same look there are Buckeyes, and ISA browns. Buckeyes are like a Rhode Island Red but with a short comb. ISA browns usually have some whitish feathers mixed in. Their operation sounds epic!

      What a great comment! I chatted with a neighbor 2 years ago about growing veg. He had plans of raising both chickens and rabbits for meat. Oddly enough, I ended up being the person with the rabbits! They are easy-care. Enjoy them! And add some hens too! 🤣 Good luck 👍🏻

    Mesmerizing! Yes, I enjoyed the tour and YES, you are very organized. You certainly show how much STUFF is involved in raising theses animals and I applaud that. You “pulled back the curtain” on the work, equipment and feed required. Nice workshop! Good luck with this nasty freeze coming. My rabbits are “outdoors” in cages within a covered, caged chicken run. They are New Zealand meat rabbits and do just fine with our central NC winter temps. With that freeze coming, I’ll be tarping up the chicken run and stuffing the bunny cages with straw. My hens are fine with an uninsulated hen house to protect them. You have gorgeous FAT hens - I attribute that to the oils sunflower seeds (I could be wrong 🤣). All that fluff keeps them warm. 👍🏻🐓. Thanks for the tour and the exhibition of your joyous youthful energy and ambition! ❤

Congratulations on having a barn to expand your love of animals & become professional in your rabbitry. I love your new expanded cage systems for growouts. ;) Excellent tip on raising the feed sack pallet off the floor so the cats can get to the mice :) thanks!

    Sweet lix minerals is the brand we use for our goats, and it has all they need.

    • @TealStoneHomestead

      The mineral buffet allows the goats to use their own intuition, to choose what their body needs and not what it doesn’t. We did an all-in-one mineral at the start, but the premixed minerals can give them too much or too little of certain things.

    This is my first winter raising rabbits. I have three females, two are Flemish giants and one is a Rex. One California male. All just turned 8 months and ready to breed for meat purposes. I live in SEMissouri near Cape Girardeau. Weather usually 45 to 20 degrees in the winter with warmer and as low as 0 but that is rare. I use a three sided building with a tarp over the front to break the wind.
    Confused on raising babies in the winter and keeping them warm. Do you use heat lamps or what do you do to keep them warm and how do you use heat and lights? Just the low light on all the time?
    The Flemish are probably going to need 22 to 24 inch baby boxes and I have read 11-12 inches wide? Can I use dog fur in the nests? Washed fur? I have Samoyed, Great Pyrenees, and Lab fur, also I clip a couple small breeds. I ran a dog rescue and just retired after 17 years so am filling the kennels with ducks, chickens and bunnies so I don't get weak and take in more dogs as a foster in this horrible economy.
    I trust you and your climate to help teach me the best methods to care for the bunnies. I ordered the round water bowls you use and love them. I use mine for feed too. Rabbit pens were from Tractor Supply, but I am also using re-designed 48" dog crates for the big girls.
    I am 68 and my husband has dementia at age 89 and I have not told him I have bunnies that he will be eating. He would have a stroke!!! Or a heart attack...
    I'm a prepper and JFK food savvy person with a compromised immune system, looking for as healthy and independent food management as I can do on my own at this stage of my life.
    Can you go into detail on raising babies in the winter? Also should I have bedding or boxes to hold bedding for the adult bunnies? I feel like they need more than just am open cage., Am I over thinking this?

    • @TealStoneHomestead

      I would never use a heat lamp on rabbits. Or any other supplemental heat.
      In the barn, we don’t do anything extra for our rabbits aside from extra hay. In my outdoor hutches, I just make sure they are protected from windchill and elements, along with a layer of hay when the temps drop. I have a video here. th-cam.com/video/RxzROtJDe7I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=td4PpgSEh1i_36hM

    Sorry for writing everything in French, but I know that with a simple right click, you can translate a comment and Google's translator is sometimes catastrophic. =)
