I love Martin! He’s so kind. I love how he and I have a total opposite experience. I came from extreme rural America where I grew up in the middle of a forest with no neighbors except deer. My town being so small it didn’t even having a stop sign or light. And now I live in urban Kyoto. His content makes me homesick for the rural life. 😊

Maybe do a house swap with him for a weekend?

I don't have a special interest for Japan, and no idea was this video was suggested to me, yet found myself eagerly listening, sort of imagining what it would feel like to leave everything and go live in the country side of Shizuoka. Can't wait to check out Martin's vlogs too!

Watching a Martin video is like sitting by a gurgling brook or a crackling camp fire for me. I would definitely watch a "Martin makes chocolate chip cookies" video.
I don't know anything about the PTA is America but nobody messes with the PTA in Japan.
The PTAs in Japan hold a lot of power and can easily make or break political careers.

His views are very nice and interesting. I do digress in regards to his opinion of what makes one 'Japanese' and 'Gaijin', but simply because I see resident nationality as being Japanese as good enough to qualify as Japanese. But that's okay.

    “Why did you choose Shizuoka?”
Martin fabricating a story that isn’t “my wife’s parents live there”

So many interesting insights here & agree with loving the quiet of living outside big cities here in Japan. Not wanting to share the secret magic of the countryside is really interesting & connects to what Alex Kerr was talking about in his latest book Hidden Japan & many expats feel here when they discover something special. It's a concern whether exposure to the public will ruin it. Such an interesting talk here with Martin - thanks for featuring him!
