Awesome. So happy to have found this channel. Now I can get my act together and learn how to properly pronounce words my family has been mispronouncing forever. I appreciate the history and information. Looking forward to checking out your other videos
I used to go to San Jose every summer as kid my grandma had a booth at the county fair selling Mexican food best green chili burritos from Az to Cali best times of my life 🙏🏾
I really appreciate your work on this series! It’s really taught me a lot about Nahuatl and I’m glad to be able to de-colonize and be proud of my Mexícan heritage!
Where can I read more about the addition of the extra 1/4 of a day when starting the new year? And how would the tonalpohualli be kept aligned to the xiuhpohualli when adding that extra 1/4? Thank you!
is there a website where we can buy that black bandana you are using? I liked it very much as it's both beautiful and low-key (so it can be used with any clothes I might have)
I know you're referencing the Meza version of the count which relies on a supposed addition of 6 hours to the new year every year to account for the leap year. However, have you reviewed what is commonly referred to as the ruben Ochoa count which is actually based on surviving codices, colonial Nahuatl and Spanish texts, archeological cites and the actual sequence of observable events such as the solstices and equinox. the count you are propagating is based primarily on Spanish colonial texts and a European concept of time. hourse and second were not used in mesoamerica so can each year be measured in terms of hours. the whole sunset noon sunrise etc start time is not supported by any archeological evidence, historical evidence or indigenous time keeping practices.
Yes, I referenced the Meza version of the count as it was taught to me by my maestros because it's what my calpulli and extended community use. I should have mentioned that in the video, but I wanted to save the details about the different correlations and versions of the calendar for another episode when I cover the calendar in more depth. Tlazohcamati for sharing your knowledge.
can you imagine if we started using xiuhpohualli calendar in America..people's heads would explode LOL.colonizers would say "let's make America great again" and cry like babies
