Veteran Captain Ken runs us through some rookie mistakes that we see a lot of new players do on their first game. Pay close attention if you are a new player so you can avoid them in your first games!

Good video. The top mistake I see new players make is during deployment - When they have 4+ squadrons, but deploy all of their ships first and wait until after I know where all their ships are, before they start deploying squadrons!

      thanks!
We thought about putting that into this video, then we decided just to make a video about Deployment on its own as there are times you actually want to do delay the squadrons deploying!

I'd love to see a video about deployment.

If someone would need tips for how to not forget an upgrade/effect I recomend you visit "Cannot Get Your Ship Out" since they wrote something about that

This was a good overwiew. I remember making some of the mistakes when I first started. I found myself consistently pushing my B-Wings behind my Nebulon or my Assault Frigate. It took me a couple/few games to get used to how the B-Wings moved and where to place them so I wasnt pushing them back.

I agree on most items. I think Leia (officer) can be used by a new player to make up for not knowing the best way to set commands on C3 ships, but I'm guessing you are banking on this making the new player even worse at activation discipline, so I can see the logic.

My major flaws as a newbie, involve collision and having ships get stuck together as a blob in the center of the map. It seems neither my opponent nor I, can untangle the mess that keeps the ships from moving.

I think a lot of players new and old make speed mistakes. Either going too slow or too fast and end up out of position

I disagree about Officer Leia Organa - she's a great officer for a newbie, put her on an insignificant 1-dial ship and she's a great emergency command switcher. Saved my butt a few times when I first started playing.

PetersaberHD thats great! It sounds like you were a cut above the average to use her effectively, well done!
In our experience most new players that have been using her encounter the following:
      - the ship they need to change the dial on has to be activated first
      - the need to change a dial comes after the insignificant ship with Leia has activated (junk activation)
      - new players treat all ships as significant
      - the Leia ship needs to do a command thats not what the other ship needs
Im not saying shes a bad Officer, in fact i think she is awesome. Im saying its just hard for a new player to grasp the foresight on when to use her.
In saying that, shes a card i reccomended on the CR90 video.

I got lucky. I ran a weird fleet, and now that I think about it, I commited so many sins!
I ran MC80 Command Cruiser with.... Engineering Team and Independence. It was supperted by... Nebulon-B with Redemption, Projection Experts AND Enhanced Armaments. I think I also had a Yavaris, without the combo cards (Flight Coordination Team and the other, that allows to execute squadrons after movement), and the CR90 with Leia.
And I always used Squadron Command on turn 1 with my flagship, to move my B-Wings and their escort as far as possible.

Nice job, Captain. One question: do you recommended to use all "slots" for upgrade cards? I'm very rookie player and no competitive. Only funny game with other funny gamers. Another question, how to create a campaign game? Sorry for the language mistakes, english isn't my native language. I'm from Spain. Thanks for all.

So I realize I am a little late to this video, but I have recently got into Armada and am just now seeing some of these awesome vids....my question is what binder are you using for your cards, and do they allow you to put sleeved cards into it? Thanks if you reply!

    • @motf7552
      @motf7552  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome to the game!
I personally don't use a binder, but most of the UltraPro small pock binder pages should fit them with a sleeve on.

I'll ask Ken and Nick what they use, but mine at any rate (which I think is the one featured in this video) is a participation prize from the 2016 Armada World champs (and it does fit sleeved cards).
I think Nick has a folder from Ultra Guard. Will find out!

I disagree with monferrat being non noob friendly. I find him more noob neutral as a new player myself. Yes, maneuvering speed 3 when you are new is a difficult thing to do. However, he is excellent for practicing that maneuver as he reduces punishment for bad placement. He also helps keep small ships alive making it easier for a new player to learn how to use them right. If the raider or arquitens get nuked on turn 2, the player isn't learning much about how to use them. So, in my opinion he's an excellent commander for a noob to put on a small ship, if only to keep it alive

    • @motf7552
      @motf7552  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Happy to agree to disagree.
Montferrat is on my list because:
      1. New players forget what he does
      2. Looking at what imperial ships go speed 3, ISD, GSD, Raider, Gozanti, Arquittens. Only the GSD and Raider ever rely on speed 3 or more for survival, and if they do they take Captain Brunson who is the same points, always works at any speed and in most cases prevents 2 damage. Sometimes 3 if you count the critical effect.
      3. Raider and Arquittens getting Nuked on turn 2 has a lot more to do with positioning and timing than defensive upgrade. An obstructed attack isn't going to help much to a new player, if they even remember to use it.
      4. Running Raiders and Arquittens lean is a better learning experience for new players as thats how they are run normally in competition
I feel mostly that experienced players will get the most out of Montferrat like they have done with GSD's before Brunson came about. Because they will have better timing and positioning for their ship.

My current mistake is poorly judging distances. Run away with a fast ship but still end up in arc. Or fly into another ship's arc. Also having trouble playing the grind game against tanky lists.

actually, i wouldnt say its a mistake because it could be because your opponent simply out manoeuvred you instead!
