Part of me still wonders if Vegapunk was being poetic when he said devil fruits were dreams. Like how his dream is to create an energy source. If he accomplished this goal you could say the energy source was created by a dream. My only reason for thinking is that what if he meant the ancient kingdom knew how to create devil fruits. They didn't dream them up exactly, so much as they dream up the idea like a scientist and get to work making it a reality. So the human-human fruit may have been a scientists way of allowing their pet to talk and experience life. Which is kinda wholesome.

In regards to Streusen and the Kuku Kuku no Mi; I can't help but consider the application of using it on already-existing food. With Big Mom's access to ingredients and chefs, it's pretty practical to have something delicious cooked up for Streusen to then turn into a different, more nutritionally valuable meal, right? Like turning a cake into something far more healthy and nourishing? All the flavour of anything you're craving, but all the satisfaction and healthiness of a full meal packed with nutrition. The best of both worlds. Also foods that taste great but have an awful texture could be changed just as easy!
This train of thought has me questioning the motives of the ones who created Shinobu's Juku Juku no Mi and Shu's Sabi Sabi no Mi. Who was like, "Oh great fruit deity, my dream is to be able to destroy things. But not just break them; I want to forcibly subject them to the ravages of time at an accelerated speed. I want to watch them rot/rust and decay and wither away into oblivion before my very eyes." Dude must have had some issues, is all I'm saying.
I think that it was dreamed by a farmer to use it in recently planted seeds to get instant crops, instant frutal trees, turning grape juice into aged and expensive wine, turning eggs into full grown and ready to sacrifice chickens, turning calfs into cows... That fruit is basically the Multiply Food Fruit.

Shari Shari no Mi Shari Shari no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that was eaten by Sharinguru of the Marines. This Devil Fruit allows him to turn his limbs into wheels and as expected, it aids greatly in travel, making Sharinguru a human vehicle. However, in combat, this Devil Fruit is almost worthless as the user can do little with wheels, which act as spinning weapons. Franky dealt with it rather easily during the Enies Lobby arc, as is expected of anyone who is a capable fighter in the One Piece world.
I have written in my blog a post about Logia abilities with the hope of Oda eventually finding out and copying them into the story. The Logias can actually be very imaginative but it's impossible to not add the mainstream ones in the story. But honestly, I can see how Jake Jake is one of the best fruits. In its awakening the user would be capable of turning the environment into jackets, meaning they could hide anywhere, turning anything into vents. Secondly, they would be capable of wearing the environment like a jacket, receiving their properties. Thus, he could have a stone armor, a fire armor, potentially anything. And finally, they would turn inanimate objects into clothing that can be easily destroyed. Too bad it's used by Funk.
So, I've gotta say, most of these are understandable if you really start thinking about what kind of potential dream/wish could end up resulting in them. The cook-cook fruit is actually... one of the easiest to figure out, and was literally explained in a certain character's backstory (baby 5) - If you are starving to death, your wish would simply be to be able to eat anything. The fact there are MULTIPLE devil fruits that have the exact same theme, makes complete sense, too. When you are starving to death, your biggest wish, your biggest dream, is simply to have food. This same thing could be extended to almost all food-based powers, but the more specific ones I feel are more likely to be from someone that was absolutely addicted to that particular food, where it was their absolute most favorite thing in the world, simply wishing they had an infinite amount of it. Logia for the most part are very easy to figure out, even the more odd ones. Not only are they default super powers, but they're also often directly associated with real life biomes, regions, etc. - And yes, while someone that's never been to an enjoyable wetland may find the dream to "be" or "be part of" or "aid" or w/e a wetland/marsh/swamp to be "odd", I can say from personal experience that I completely understand it - While I'd be much more likely to be a beach person, I do truly understand wanting to be a swamp person. Swamps, marshes and wetlands of all forms are incredible and amazing places. Smoker... might be the oddest one though. But... could be explained by a... couple things. More on that at the end of this comment. Even the jacket power I can kind of see - Either a wish to be able to hide someone's identity, or a wish to become someone else. Either or. These are both things that just about anyone should be able to understand the desire for, provided your life circumstances ended up making this important to you. Alternatively, either someone really messed up wanting to make human leather jackets, or someone just absurdly obsessed with jackets. Which... I've weirdly known people like that IRL. And yes, people, not a single person, multiple people. So, how could Trebol and Smoker's fruits realistically have come about? And how could a lot of devil fruits' oddities and whatnot be explained? Well, by the "overly literal or purposefully sabotaging or overly vague" genie concept. "I wish to be left alone". Congratulations, you've now created the snot fruit. "I wish smoking wasn't bad for me" Congratulations, you've now created Smoker's fruit. "I wish the world would burn" Congratulations, you've now created Ace's fruit. There hasn't, to my knowledge, been any confirmation that a fruit's abilities are a direct 1:1 representation of someone's wish - That stuff like Aokiji's ice fruit is the simple result of someone "wishing they could be ice" and not wishing for something extremely simple like "I wish it was cooler" and that being transformed into the ability to be and control ice. So this is currently my thought process on why we see some really... REALLY... dumb fruits. Because it's not a direct desire, not a direct wish. They're the concept of someone's wish, given form. In the same way that, y'know, "you have 3 wishes, what do you wish for?" "world peace" "congratulations, I've erased all humans from the world.", works, devil fruits could very much work the exact same way.
It genuinely surprises me how uncommon hydrokenesis is. As far as I remember, there are very few characters, especially in modern anime, that can control water. My hero academia doesn't have one(and no Manual doesn't count he just redirects objects) and neither does One Piece. Would be interesting to see a logia user who can control the very thing that all devil fruit users fear.
I have a fruit concept it's the: erro erro nomi a logia that lets you turn into glitches and errors of any degree (based on control of the fruit). The fruit looks like a black and white pinecone and tastes like a lemon with sugar on it
A good use for the cook cook fruit would be to turn junk food into healthy food. It would give the delicious taste of the junk with all the nutrients of the healthy food.
If you read Gleipnir, it is a story about a guy with what is basically the Jacket Jacket fruit, but 5 Day's at Freddy's teddy bear furry style. Pretty nice story though. This makes me think that the creator of this devil fruit was someone strong that cared for someone weaker and wanted that person to have his/her strength.
This video made me go in a huge tangent believing weevil is our next nakama Haha...actually I would love it. 1-He is strong enough to match the straw hats 2-He is a different ''race'' bred by sciencie which is a whole new way of reflextion about what makes you a human. Also in a way that is very current, as he did with all the internet stuff with Vegapunk 3-he has this possesive mother that uses him as a tool. 4-he has a different kind of body that would make the straw hats more diverse. 5-he is not bad himself so he is not irredeemable. 6-He just lives for the figure of his father so it would be cool to find a new fun version of what white beard (a guy we absolutely love)would be if he was in the straw hats. 7-Why are we even acquainted with this guy...!!!! Weevil is being planted early by force to have a glimpse at our future straw. Maybe the story is so tragic, re-reading one piece means seeing our boy weedle trapped. idk 8-To me it would just be right, its a new way of talking about technological advancement, finding your place in the world and following your own dreams. Also Oda would not write an encounter between two very strong people who really love white beard, and luffy wouldn't punish him for having that manipulated life. (I also believe we are uniting all the strawhats finally so we got jinbe who was away, but really always a strawhat. Vivi, who finally has a reason to join the strawhats, a country in chaos with no way to get there or help, also her father is dead so this pressure for not being a pirate is not in the story anymore (rip cobra). In that sense the jacket jacket fruit would be really useful because no one could stop the might of rogward D. Goldgate or goldbeard. Maybe someone wanted to fuse with someone else and they could only do that if they turned into a jacket because jackets have a secret power we don't know about! Maybe the giant hat that imu has is not the only giant clothing he has but he olso has a gigantic jacket and that is the treasure doflamingo knew about!!! Perhaps clothing devil fruits are the strongest and all the marine higher-ups have them. Maybe the 5 elder-stars have the hat hat fruit, shirt shirt fruit, pants pants fruit, shoe shoes fruit and glove glove fruit respectively and imu has an upgraded version of the jacket jacket fruit just like the ton ton fruit is an upgraded version of the kilo kilo fruit!!! the jacket fruit mustt have been a monkey's paw situation. Their desire was most likely to be able to take over other people's bodies, but forgot to specify how.
I think the Jacket fruit is the desire to be like somebody, dreamt up by someone who was envious of everybody around them thinking it would be better if they had that person's skills, or that person's muscles, or be as tall or short as someone else. The main ability requires you to ask for that person's help in order to be like them, but I believe the awakened fruit would allow the user to gain the power to do it themselves and possess whatever body they want. The will isn't to be that person though, or it would copy more like Bon Clay's fruit which only copies appearance, it's to take their skills and strengths for yourself instead of copying it's a lot more selfish which supports my theory that the awakening should be selfish too and allow for body-stealing.
Headcanon for the jacket jacket fruit: A young man together with his very very pregnant wife, were driven away from their home by a group of bandits. 3 days of fleeing they found themselves lost and are now traversing along a blizzardy path with no shelter in sight. His wife, who's body is slowly succumbing to frost bite and is hours away from childbirth says to him"You should continue with out us. We will only slow you down my love." The man who hasn't had any sustenance for days foolishly and jokingly wishes to the Gods above that they may stumble upon a shelter or that he may somehow embrace his wife and unbornchild in such a way that it's as if they were wearing an extra sheet of clothing...a JACKET perhaps. With such strong conviction he wished his final moments and as both him and his wife's consciousness fade away, the jacket-jacket fruit was born.
My personal headcannon is dat the jacket fruit is only weak in the hands of its user.....I believe if someone skilled enough can transform any of their body at will so they can avoid attacks like rokushikis paperbag ,and with dat precise control of what part of the body to activate the user may be able to wrap themselves around and opponent n take control.......don't even get me started on awakening
The most wholesome use I can think of the Jake Jake fruit is if someone with an illness was unable to move or travel on their own. So someone they trusted wished for a fruit where they can be a jacket and wrap over someone. Then they take are aware. This person gave this devil fruit to the person with the illness. Now whenever they ask they can use the fruit and have their own adventures they wouldn’t have otherwise. This has consent of course.
My main scientific reason to believe why fruit users can't be able to swim is because it was confirmed that they grant their users abilities by changing the lineage factor and molecular compounds are shown to be capable of being disolved by water
I never considered the jacket fruit's awakening or how it would work with other DF users. Like, if a Logia wore the jacket would they all of a sudden be able to use a lot more of their element? Could the awakening combine powers and allow the user to control multiple persons at once?
I feel like Oda didn't put much thought into the Jake Jake no Mi, or the idea of just turning into a jacket other than as a way to make the Funk Brothers more interesting contenders in the colosseum during the Dressrosa arc, but man is it weird to think about in retrospect.

There may have been a point where they just wanted as many people with any power so there was just a checklist of what was taken/available and just a factory like process to put people through it. There are 3 types of wishes Zoan wishes: wish to be anything alive. Logia wishes: wish to be an element or force of nature. Paramecia wishes: every other wish.

Everyone hates on the swamp fruit because Caribou sucks but in all honesty it is one of the best fruits. It gives you all of the intangibility of a logia on top of infinite storage space. Infinite storage space is one of the most versatile and useful abilities in fiction. In all honesty the element isn't even really gross, like really how bad do you think mud is it's just wet dirt. Plus the element isn't harmful to your surroundings like lave or fire is.

Now for the worst Devil Fruit list. Skimming through it, I definitely disagree with some of them. Others I feel are more average in abilities than being bad all around. I'm noticing that GRL's been judging these fruits by "how and why was this DF dreamt up? What were they thinking???" more than anything. It greatly impacts this list. From surface-level reading in one list to why people dreamt of different powers in this list, GLR struggle making great tier lists. 10. Who really cares? This fruit is far from the worst but far from the best. I would not like to be a Mucus human, but it's properties can be useful in different situations. 9. This is not a bad Devil Fruit. Being able to turn anything into any food you want is a life saver. Once you have this fruit, you will never have to worry about getting hungry again, this is an inverse to the Munch-Munch Fruit where the user can eat anything but will forever be hungry. You can also possibly alter the aspects of already existing food to change its properties, or create food that have supernatural abilities to aid you. It's a helpful fruit for a non-combatant to have. The "weakness" of the food not tasting good can stem from Big Moms over-demanding palate as she's the only one to complain about it's taste. 8: Going over the Butter-Butter and Cream-Cream Fruit, their the kind of fruits that are like "They exist, cool, goodbye". There's nothing particularly super interesting about them to separate from other substance producing fruits. Butter is adhesive and Cream can create burns, ok cool I guess. Their not bad and are serviceable, but they can't compete with the more versatile fruits. 7 This another cop out on GRL's end. Putting two very similar Devil Fruits in the same spot. While I can agree with the Ton-Ton fruit being on this list that while it is heavier than the Kilo-Kilo fruit, it trades in one positive for two negatives. Firstly it cannot make the user lighter like the Kilo-Kilo can, secondly the user gets affected by the attacks by the DF while the Kilo-Kilo doesn't. The Kilo-Kilo Fruit on the other hand, I disagree with being here. The ability to make yourself heavier and lighter at a whim can be made useful in different situations. Being made lighter, you can move at faster speeds, jump higher, and essentially fly with the right tools. It's an often looked down upon fruit that needs some thinking to see the good uses of it. 6. This fruit placement highlights the issue of the video on focusing on a made-up story on the origin of a DF rather than talking about the DF itself. I don't think its right to put this fruit on this list because it was used by a terrible user. 5. I'm assuming the Human-Human Fruit is no 5 because how much time you spent on it. This fruit is mostly useless to a human, but good for an animal to become sapient. The only way this fruit can be good for is if a human user gains the enlightenment and becomes super powerful with it. 4. No. This is not the 4th worst Devil Fruit. Your reasoning proves nothing as to why it's terrible. 3. The Berry Berry Fruit can fly and be overall a nuisance with the fruit. Very Good was a pretty weak guy, so if you had a stronger body then this fruit can possibly be useful. It's better than the Bara-Bara fruit in that it isn't restricted in where the user can fly to. 2. Uhh....No. Yet another fruit ranked by "Who would dream of being this". This fruit has much higher potential than GRL realizes. 1. "Up until now, the fruit's I've been mentioning are from nitpicking" This really goes to show how biased GLR with all of the fruits above. The most obvious choice and the most obvious choice I would agree with. This fruit is extremely limiting and has low potential to be used in any area. Only an awakening can fix its problems but I don't see how such a restrictive fruit can be awakened. Wow, this list was pretty bad. GLR became flanderized and let one trait consume him when making this video. Almost all of the Devil Fruits in the list come from irrelevant theories on the origin of DFs rather than actually talking about the DF. Edit: After thinking about it, I think it's worth it unsubscribing. Many of the takes GLR seem artificial and misguided. The clickbait is real with the channel. The jokes are unfunny and feel forced. Even the jacket power I can kind of see - Either a wish to be able to hide someone's identity, or a wish to become someone else. Either or. These are both things that just about anyone should be able to understand the desire for, provided your life circumstances ended up making this important to you. Alternatively, either someone really messed up wanting to make human leather jackets, or someone just absurdly obsessed with jackets. Which... I've weirdly known people like that IRL. And yes, people, not a single person, multiple people.
So, how could Trebol and Smoker's fruits realistically have come about? And how could a lot of devil fruits' oddities and whatnot be explained?
Well, by the "overly literal or purposefully sabotaging or overly vague" genie concept.

There hasn't, to my knowledge, been any confirmation that a fruit's abilities are a direct 1:1 representation of someone's wish - That stuff like Aokiji's ice fruit is the simple result of someone "wishing they could be ice" and not wishing for something extremely simple like "I wish it was cooler" and that being transformed into the ability to be and control ice.
So this is currently my thought process on why we see some really... REALLY... dumb fruits. Because it's not a direct desire, not a direct wish.
They're the concept of someone's wish, given form.
In the same way that, y'know, "you have 3 wishes, what do you wish for?" "world peace" "congratulations, I've erased all humans from the world.", works, devil fruits could very much work the exact same way.

It genuinely surprises me how uncommon hydrokenesis is. As far as I remember, there are very few characters, especially in modern anime, that can control water. My hero academia doesn't have one(and no Manual doesn't count he just redirects objects) and neither does One Piece. If you read Gleipnir, it is a story about a guy with what is basically the Jacket Jacket fruit, but 5 Day's at Freddy's teddy bear furry style. Pretty nice story though.
This makes me think that the creator of this devil fruit was someone strong that cared for someone weaker and wanted that person to have his/her strength.

I think the Jacket fruit is the desire to be like somebody, dreamt up by someone who was envious of everybody around them thinking it would be better if they had that person's skills, or that person's muscles, or be as tall or short as someone else. The main ability requires you to ask for that person's help in order to be like them, but I believe the awakened fruit would allow the user to gain the power to do it themselves and possess whatever body they want. The will isn't to be that person though, or it would copy more like Bon Clay's fruit which only copies appearance, it's to take their skills and strengths for yourself instead of copying it's a lot more selfish which supports my theory that the awakening should be selfish too and allow for body-stealing.
Headcanon for the jacket jacket fruit:
A young man together with his very very pregnant wife, were driven away from their home by a group of bandits. 3 days of fleeing they found themselves lost and are now traversing along a blizzardy path with no shelter in sight. His wife, who's body is slowly succumbing to frost bite and is hours away from childbirth says to him"You should continue with out us. We will only slow you down my love." The man who hasn't had any sustenance for days foolishly and jokingly wishes to the Gods above that they may stumble upon a shelter or that he may somehow embrace his wife and unbornchild in such a way that it's as if they were wearing an extra sheet of clothing...a JACKET perhaps. With such strong conviction he wished his final moments and as both him and his wife's consciousness fade away, the jacket-jacket fruit was born.

The most wholesome use I can think of the Jake Jake fruit is if someone with an illness was unable to move or travel on their own. So someone they trusted wished for a fruit where they can be a jacket and wrap over someone. Then they take are aware. This person gave this devil fruit to the person with the illness. Now whenever they ask they can use the fruit and have their own adventures they wouldn’t have otherwise. This has consent of course.
My main scientific reason to believe why fruit users can't be able to swim is because it was confirmed that they grant their users abilities by changing the lineage factor and molecular compounds are shown to be capable of being disolved by water

I never considered the jacket fruit's awakening or how it would work with other DF users. Like, if a Logia wore the jacket would they all of a sudden be able to use a lot more of their element?

Infinite storage space is one of the most versatile and useful abilities in fiction. In all honesty the element isn't even really gross, like really how bad do you think mud is it's just wet dirt. Plus the element isn't harmful to your surroundings like lave or fire is.

Now for the worst Devil Fruit list. Skimming through it, I definitely disagree with some of them. Others I feel are more average in abilities than being bad all around. I'm noticing that GRL's been judging these fruits by "how and why was this DF dreamt up? What were they thinking???" more than anything. It greatly impacts this list. From surface-level reading in one list to why people dreamt of different powers in this list, GLR struggle making great tier lists.

This is not a bad Devil Fruit. Being able to turn anything into any food you want is a life saver. Once you have this fruit, you will never have to worry about getting hungry again, this is an inverse to the Munch-Munch Fruit where the user can eat anything but will forever be hungry. You can also possibly alter the aspects of already existing food to change its properties, or create food that have supernatural abilities to aid you. It's a helpful fruit for a non-combatant to have. The "weakness" of the food not tasting good can stem from Big Moms over-demanding palate as she's the only one to complain about it's taste.

Going over the Butter-Butter and Cream-Cream Fruit, their the kind of fruits that are like "They exist, cool, goodbye". There's nothing particularly super interesting about them to separate from other substance producing fruits. Butter is adhesive and Cream can create burns, ok cool I guess. Their not bad and are serviceable, but they can't compete with the more versatile fruits.

This another cop out on GRL's end. Putting two very similar Devil Fruits in the same spot. While I can agree with the Ton-Ton fruit being on this list that while it is heavier than the Kilo-Kilo fruit, it trades in one positive for two negatives. Firstly it cannot make the user lighter like the Kilo-Kilo can, secondly the user gets affected by the attacks by the DF while the Kilo-Kilo doesn't.
The Kilo-Kilo Fruit on the other hand, I disagree with being here. The ability to make yourself heavier and lighter at a whim can be made useful in different situations. Being made lighter, you can move at faster speeds, jump higher, and essentially fly with the right tools. It's an often looked down upon fruit that needs some thinking to see the good uses of it.

Wow, this list was pretty bad. GLR became flanderized and let one trait consume him when making this video. Almost all of the Devil Fruits in the list come from irrelevant theories on the origin of DFs rather than actually talking about the DF.
