- I Spend one night at the Silica Hotel, which is just 5 mins from the blue lagoon on foot
I check out the hotel, Geothermal pool and the Big Blue Lagoon!
However it ends in disaster as 5.30am earthquakes happened and just before 6am the alarm sounds to warn of an eruption, no one knew where it would come up but it was very close to the hotel!

This is one hotel stay I WON'T EVER FORGET!
😂😂👍
That was a really good video. How you kept it together to shoot it is pretty amazing
Or go back too 🤣
Don't forget to go stay at East Quay down in watchet Somerset
It's beautiful and quirky 🤪
I bet the Hotel didn't forget to bill you either. :)
Hotel Room = lots of money
Lagoon resort = lots of money
Dinner = lots of money
Massage = lots of money
Drinks = lots of money
Minimal packaged lunch = lots of money
6:00am wake-up call by a volcano = priceless
To sleep in hotel above active magma chamber = ? 😁
Well the room looks very comfortable.
You have to put your clothes in your bag before you go to bed,so you can just put on your shoes & jacket & go go to, if the alarm goes off!
Brilliant
Minibar is complimentary
Love how this guy is not a dramaqueen like most people today.
Vulcano erupts, drives away, little filming, time to fill up, vulcano erupting in the background, 'filling up your car is a bit different on iceland.'
Lucky they were not in EVs waiting around to chargee while the lava and ash rained down.
Agree, excellent video.
He knew it was coming, that is why he went there. Then, acts surprised that it happened. It was all scripted.
Nobody knew when. He is genuine guy
If this was an American TH-camr it would have been very different.
Hotel stay: expensive, experiencing this: priceless. Best footage I've seen from this eruption so far.
Jepp... The lava curtain was quite impressive!
I just found the British resort documentarian
Great video. Very well choreographed.
I have driven people quite often to and from the Silica Hotel but never stayed there, so very interesting for me to see inside.
I love seeing your honest opinions.
I´m one of the locals that have been agains them being allowed to operate in the area while there is a very high chance of imminent eruption.
I mean the area was marked inside a orange danger zone, and they are having business opened for tourist.
I have been waiting for it to erupt any minute in the last 3 weeks.
Though the eruption was where they estimated, they can never be 100% sure.
I mean the magma chamber is underneath the Blue Lagoon area at around 5 km / 3 miles dept.
The road you are driving at around 21:43 is all under lava now. It went over the road about 6 hours after you left.
The lava went as close to the the front door of the hotel as about roughly 600 meters or about 0.38 miles.
The Berm Wall was between, but still.
The lava did not hit the berm wall but was very close to it.
I doubt that anybody told you this. But in the last 3 months, or since novemer 10th when all the earthquakes happend. The land in Svartsengi, where the powerplant is, sunk by about 35 cm / 14 inches and since then it has it has risen again from that point about 55 cm / 22 inches (It sunk a little bit after each eruption).
So there have been a lot of movement in the land there.
Also, the land around the town of Grindavík (The town that have been evacuated) few km south from there. There is a point West and East of the town, and those point have been spliting apart about 3 meters / 10 feet now since november. I dont yet have numbers since this eruption.
I’d been watching the daily reports and the web cameras since this started in November. There’s been discussion all along that the Blue Lagoon had been taking chances. They were let’s say less than intelligent to have stayed open when this last eruption was imminent (I watched the road get overcome with lava quickly two hours after you drove off; it was stunning how fast that lava moved - totally different than the lava in the earlier eruptions). And I think that those people who stayed there at that time were equally less than intelligent. Yeah, you got great film, but if the fissure pattern had been a bit different, you would have had no way out of that area - the road would have been gone. This is a Darwin Award level video (and by the way, I’ve been there; I hiked up to the first eruption in June 2021, so I’m not armchair quarterbacking this).
yes its a scary thought it could have and could still come up under the blue lagoon
Currently, there is no opening leading from the magma reservoir 7Km below the surface leading straight upwards towards the blue lagoon. The only way for the magma to move currently is to the east into the dike where eruptions have been occurring. If the magma wanted to shoot straight up, it would need to break kilometers of solid rock. This could happen but it would take days and many strong earthquakes. So, the blue lagoon is much safer than you think.
I wouldn't bet money, let alone my safety, that they are being honest about the fissures and openings PRE Dec 23- let alone the dramatic new ones post.
Darwin award indeed to believe they have no ulterior motives to downplay dangers, especially after the absurd level of denials from govt and "authorities on volcanoes in Iceland", then go into the zones.
Downright Machiavellian at this point to tell OTHERS it is safe to go.
@@dr.marykelleher4904Genuine question. How is hiking to an eruption okay, but staying in a hotel where an eruption may be imminent is not?
"You can even have a few people watching if you want" 😂 but don't worry guys Tim's not a swinger (allegedly) 😉🤣
Had a giggle at that. The eruption was something never expected to see. ❤
Literal laugh out loud moment
@@Harlow65965 he is a funny one our tim 😂
@StuartPeterDuncanAnderson personally I thought it added to the ambience 🤌😂
The 😐 face after too made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣
A once in a lifetime experience!! Amazing footage. Nobody gets that but scientists! You'll NEVER forget that!
sadly not as the peninsular has woken up and these eruptions have been frequently erupting every 3 weeks this one was the second eruption from the same spot as the first one just with more lava coming out. they dont know if this type of event will last months, years decades or hundreads of years and the last time the peninsular erupted was 800 years ago and it was a long episode of many eruptions some big, some small.
scientists and Icelanders
Eruption been going on for 200 million years
What a unique vacation!
Man: "I am at a safe distance"
Volcano: "Lol!"
I don’t why I laughed out loud at the thought of volcano speaking internet language 😂
01:32
That's because it basically has. The Blue Lagoon is build at the edge of a historical lava flow from the 13th century. So they build around the piece like that, giving the appearence you just described.
The reykjanes peninsular has a 700 year activity cycle too so these eruptions could go on as long as for another 200 years. Iceland fascinates me so much. Its beautiful.
@@janereeves4482 They will appear sporadic throughout the next 150 to 300 years at different parts of the peninsula.
@@Vulcano7965 well I'm hoping to get back there in the next year so fingers crossed I pick the right time.
I'm pleased you're safe and at the same time extremely jealous that you've seen in person something as amazing as that.
And the fact I was last 1 out .. no one was around
Me too ! Exceptional video, Tim does it so well, i think he's getting better and better. 🔥💧
@WalkWithMeTim That's scary!
As a follow up - the Blue Lagoon and hotels are now basically cut off for the general public as the lava flowed over the main road and up the blue lagoon road. There is another way in from the south but that is from the town of Grindavik which is closed.
And the lava also melted the pipe that supplies hot water to the rest of the towns on the peninsula, including Keflavik. As Iceland uses this hot water supply for heating people are having to use very limited electric heating (and no hot water for washing) until the new pipe is in place…
yes I know .. scary it went across the road I travelled out on I hope they sort but will no doubt be a while before it opens up again
I’m back in Iceland in August (and December!) , not planning on visiting the Blue Lagoon but we usually go to Grindavík for soup, which is much nicer than your dinner looked and about a fifth of the price!! But I’m not hopeful that it will be possible….
Wow scary 😨 you got away ok 👍 😊
probably not going to Grindavík. The government is going to buy the owners out of their houses. It's not looking good for people being able to live there
@@WalkWithMeTim it's very costly ,and it's cut off the hot water.
You know what makes your channel tick? I reckon it’s because you and Gabby are real and relatable folks. Keep up and thank you for the authenticity. Hard to come by these days. Looking foward to more content. Cheerio🙏🏼❤️
Thank you so much!!
Tim - I am old so I don’t do drama and that is why I love you, Gabby and Casper. You give a real tour of the rooms and the real experience without flourishes. Thank you❤️
Here here 👍💯
That was incredible! I was stationed at the NATO base, Keflavik, Iceland 2003, 2005. I use to go to Blue Lagoon once a week, just the Lagoon. It was more affordable back then. Great experience, expensive but you will never forget it. I was stationed at Subic Naval Base, Philippines went MT Pinitubo blew for 3 days. That was a big eruption! Totally destroyed Clark Air Base. We evacuated 25,000 people! Great Vllogg!
Blue lagoon when is hot pot close to bridge:)))
Disappointed that water in minifridge is sparkling. Not realizing the best still water ever is right in the bathroom tap 😂
Thanks for the video, always wanted to see one of the rooms! Glad your safe!
Lol good point.
And there obviously (in the video) was free fresh water next to the door to the hotel pool (from the inside of the hotel out to the hotel pool that was next to that door).
Maybe on some other places too.
I don't know about Iceland, but in Denmark it is mostly basic water in the ground being pumped up, given air and then pumped into the pipes! Finn. Denmark
mountain water is better then tap water and that really helps clean ur body inside = thats what i have found with me and my plants (they really enjoy it)
@@kananaskiscountry8191 Base water, in our case with a high contend of Chalk in some areas, is fine for a bath! I have visited Norway, which has water which is extremely "soft", and you are hardly able to wash out soap from your hair!!!
But the quality of most Danish Tap Water is better than most water bought in bottles or cans! And a naturel contend of Fluor in the water gives very fine teeth! I, as 76, has near all of my teeth present in my mouth still! But I admit that for plants it isn't optimal! Finn
That feature in the hallways, with the volcanic rock formation halfway through the windows is both an awesome architectural work of art, and a rather unfortunate portent of what was about to happen. I'm just glad you're okay Tim!
Hi Tim glad you got out of the hotel and away safely. What a way to be woken up by the emergency alarm and to drive a hire car right past the volcano erupting throwing out lava. What a scene of lava in the back ground at the airport. The hotel and room looked lovely.
You are so fortunate to have experienced this and videoraphed it! They got you away safely, that is paramount.
Yes! I'm a bit jealous ...
""I stay in a hotel with the most amazing wake up call EVER !! ""
Great Video!! I live in Hawaii with a couple active volcanos on the island… glad you are safe. Lava erupting and fountaining is both terrifying and beautiful
A very good tip if you go to Iceland and you have a bit of time (and a car), don't go to the blue lagoon. You can drive all the way to Mývatn in the North where you'll find some installation as big as the Blue lagoon, for half the price and half the tourists. There is no accommodation on site, but you got hotels nearby.
Good info ! 👍
What an experience!
For anyone who wants to go to Iceland and is worried about missing the blue lagoon there are a lot of other geothermal pools. We went to Lake Myvatin and I highly recommend it. Also if you want to eat on a budget, eat the soups, they are very hearty and usually best value for money.
though Mývatn is a 6 hr drive from keflavík, so prepare for a long drive
Thank you so much for your comment I'd like to visit Iceland but on a budget I will revisit this once I have the funds
The place you stayed at managed to turn a spa into a cafeteria experience . Lining up for your drink. Lining up to get a face mask slapped on your palm so you can put it on your own face ...
Wow, those air raid sirens ... Very exciting and terrifying too. Now that was an adventur

Great review as always Tim.....not sure if its just me but what an utterly bizarre place!!!
Awesome footage of the eruption though and crazy that it happened on the exact night/morning you stayed there.
You are famous now. Top commentator on iceland situation referring people to your video
WOW. That volcano footage was fantastic you were in the right place at the right time, just wow. Wouldn't stop at that hotel though, far too expensive.

@@WalkWithMeTimIn a way I wish I was you. In a way, you and the others weren't in any real danger. Yeah it may have been unnerving or terrifying, but since this was a effusive or lava eruption, it would have taken time for the lava to reach you.
What an experience! Not one to forget in a hurry. Just booked to go to Iceland last week, fingers crossed for summer! Better footage than all the news coverage!
Hi Tim! I seen a reference to this video on another channel. It was featured on "On The Pulse With Silki". She has been covering the volcanic activity at Iceland. The best thing is, I discovered your channel! 😁 Your video was Amazing and Scary too. 😮 But, since then, I have watched a LOT of your videos and have Subscribed. Love your travels and videos. Glad you got out of Iceland safe!!! I am on my cell phone commenting but watching you on TH-cam on TV touring Lapland! Love your channel. Cute family also. Take Care. Thanks for the videos.

thanks .. welcome to the channel
That was a spectacular end to your trip. You could never plan for it. It looks so safe but unsafe. Amazing.
Thanks Tim. I have been glued to the Live From Iceland channel since the first eruption in November 2023 and it was interesting to view the eruption ‘experience’ from a visitors perspective. Nice vid and thanks for staying where you did because I could never afford to. 😉

Exceptional vlog thx Tim! Knowing the roads well, surely the scariest part for you was having to drive TOWARDS the eruption before reaching the main road and being able to turn away to the north...only hours later that road was comprehensively engulfed by lava flow. Wow.
Yes ! I thought that too !
Wow what an incredible experience! The blue lagoon, volcano, your saw it all! Brilliant video!
Thank you so much for the tour of the Blue Lagoon and your stay with details. The 6 AM wake up was fantastic -if a little unnerving, just a wondrous experience! All smiles!

OMG Tim! What a frightening experience being evacuated from a hotel early in the morning because of a volcano eruption!! Not something you would expect on a day to day basis and I bet you will never forget it. It did look absolutely insane!

Thanks for another brilliant video 😁
Would love to see a follow-up on this if the lava made it to the hotel.
He even says in the start that it was expected though? 😆 It has been all over the news for a while now here in Sweden.
Love the blue lagoon, stayed there 2018.
”Ni still water?” The Tap-water is really good here in the north!
And what is it with shoes inside? 😄
@@CJLinOHIO
It didn't get to the lagoon it only lasted around 24 hours and got far enough to take out the hot water pipeline to Grindevic (spelling?)
What a well stitched together video . Certainly went into depth of what the Blue Lagoon is all about .
I been watching the Iceland eruptions since Fagradalsfjall in 2021 , so watching Eruptions is not new to me .
But omg you sure has a bit of a shock .
Everyone has their eyes on on your digital dash clock lol .
And you got so good footage of the 3rd eruption very shortly after it first fissured .
Not long after that a Giant Lava Spaghetti monster wound it's way and destroyed some valuable hot water pipelines .
.
The prices omg !
Design yes and comfort .
But many have been questioning the Decision making by the Managers and above of the Blue Lagoon .
Clearly putting Profit before the safety of people .
An excellent video 👏 👏
Surpised the title wasn't 'I stayed in a hotel near a volcano - I was SHOCKED!!!'
Good morning everyone!! Looking forward to today's video and I hope everyone, including Tim, is doing well!!🤍

I hope people weren't injured & everyone was evacuated to safety!
My fiancé took me to Iceland for my birthday and the blue lagoon was stunning. Must have been so scary with that volcanic activity.
Only if you’ve been to Iceland can you appreciate the geothermal nature. It’s just such a breathtaking place and atmosphere.
Jesus dude !! waking up to an air raid siren ,you don`t need coffee!
I would never want to be around when a air raid goes off you are brave!! So glad you got out of there and home safe !!!
Experienced this in Hawwaii and then phones go off and a message ICBM missile incoming this is not a drill...great fun.
Also hiked out to the lave flowing into the ocean on the Big Island a few years ago. Incredible heat even from the "cooled down" lava rock. We stayed a safe distance away from the flow.
Hope you are now in a place of safety, Tim. Safe travels home.

This was an incredible video. I loved your honest hotel review as you were trying the various services and facilities, but the way you reacted so relatively calmly from the eruption onward, that was quite cool as well.
That's been great fun to watch! I enjoyed the Blue Lagoon's waters a few years back, but even though it's a fantastic memory, it wasn't quite that intense! Lucky you!
