Beating the final boss on the switch was nightmare, its already super challenging by design and the game stutters a lot on the switch making it almost impossible lol
Also this game is definitely unique, it's also why i love indie games same as you. Indie games innovate every year. For example look at cult of the lamb, which combined town building with a roguelike dungeon crawler to great effect. It's one of my favorite games of the year tbh
If it wasn't for the town building and the demonic imagery, I would definitely give it a try. I really like the art style of the game, but like the main story is not my cup of tea. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much though, keep the recommendations coming!

Great review! I was wondering how this game was gonna turn out. I played the demo last year and had a nice time, but I don't play smups very much. I'll have to check this game out now
Thanks for the review, I personally have a bit of a hard time judging gameplay by watching a trailer rather than playing a demo. Was that the same for you or did it play just like you expected it to?
My pleasure, I played the demo before I purchased the full game, but that's only because I couldn't wait to play it. So to answer your question, I was already excited when I saw the trailer and the demo confirmed my excitement, but I also would have bought it if it didn't have a demo. I hope that answers your question 😅
Amazing review as always. This game has an amazing art style. Bullet hell shooters are not my cup of cereals, but the game intrigues me do to the mix of genres it brings
Really good review..I picked the game up and am enjoying my time with it. Not sure if I've played anything quite like it..feels like tactical bullet hell sometimes
I'm generally not that big a fan of twin stick (bullet hell) shooters even though i've played quite a few (pronty, song of the deep, moolander, insanely twisted shadow planet, ...) It's because floating around a level takes away all the depth that normal platforming brings. That's why I prefer regular sidescroller platformers like ori, haiku or 8doors. Oddly enough i played one that combined both called islets which i loved, even the bullet hell parts. However i do think that is because the majority was platforming. That being said i don't think this game is my cup of tea because of the twin stick shooter gameplay. I also try to avoid deck building in games as it triggers my completionist mindset where i want two of every card (i was addicted to hearthstone for this reason). The art style is fun but i prefer less cartoonish characters. Lastly the fact that it's not a trueblood metroidvania makes me sadge because that's literally my favorite genre (thanks to the masterpiece Ori franchise) I think i'll stick to watching a lets play rather than playing it myself. I have enough of a backlog anyways with timespinner, tarnishing of juxtia, ghostsong, moonscars and F.I.S.T forged in shadow. Thanks for the review, very well made as usual. Though if i may give one piece of feedback I'd say not to show the final boss in a review as that's a big spoiler imo. Ideally a review should only show gameplay of the first 1/3rd of a game. But that's just my opinion
Thank you so much, D00mnoodle! I really enjoy your very detailed comments, it shows so much passion! All your arguments are so well structured and have a strong foundation. That's a nice backlog you have there, many of them I haven't played yet, but maybe I will in the future. Also that's a fair point about showing gameplay of the final boss, I will keep that in mind for future reviews. Thanks again!
I agreed with most of the times she chooses to tell the truth.. but sometimes she’s just being difficult lol And the cards aren’t actually random.. it will keep offering the cards you don’t want until you buy them lol
Unfortunately I bought this game right on the go, but I was highly disappointed as I was not even able to get through the prologue. Don't get me wrong, the game is cool, but it's way too damn frustrating, and the character moves too slow, which makes it impossibile to dodge in any way. I had to uninstall it before I smashed the tv with my controller
I love how you describe the one scene, a beautiful mess lol. Sadly I more then likely won't pick this up im just no good in how you say, bullet hell games. It reminds me of a shmup
Haha thanks! I don't know if there is also a demo available on the Switch, but if there is, you should really give it a try. Maybe it will surprise you!
Metroidvania people that are afraid to play it because of the shoot'em up element are missing maybe the most creative and fun game in a while. I agree with everything said in this video, but although you dont consider this game a truly metroidvania, it rewards backtracking in a way that a lot metroidvania fails to do (finals upgrades are quite OP and makes the final boss easier! =D). Ah, you can buy the links that you missed by telling the truth, there's a machine in the castle for it.
I'm glad you agree with me, but I can also understand why it can be a deal-breaker for some people. It rewards backtracking for sure, but it's too slow paced in my opinion. I wish there were more fast travel points, so backtracking wasn't so time consuming. Are you talking about the thumbs up and thumbs down machine by any chance? I just wish there was an achievement for telling the truth the whole time or something 😅
@@GamingwithJoy15 Yes, the thumb machine! =D I was able to reach the max level of link (lvl 20) even always telling the truth, the machine ups the morale of people that was worried about the truth, so you can gain their links. I agree, the lack of warp points hurts the backtracking. =/ But I was having so much fun with the battle mechanics and the card system that I really didn't mind too much.😅 I wish some indie companies gives a shot to this "new genre" I think has a lot of potencial!
