I'm an electrical contractor. Yesterday was the first day of school and I was waiting outside in my work van for the school to clear out so I could go in and troubleshoot some wiring. I was parked right beside the 2 handicap spots. All the parents were in first day of school-rush-to-pick-up-the-kids-mode and parking all over the place and had turned the parking lot into a giant clusterf*ck. I am annoyed when non handicapped people take handicapped spots as well. A young blonde woman pulls into one of the handicap spots in a Lexus SUV. I think to myself 'this girl isnt handicapped. Rude taking that spot just to get your kid'. But I minded my own business, not going to get into some argument in my work van, on a jobsite. Kid comes out of the school, young mom gets out of her suv....with a cane. Good thing I kept my mouth shut. They leave. Another young lady pulls into the same spot directly after, I have the exact same thought. She gets out of the car and I am correct. She is not handicapped. Again I mind my business. A few minutes goes by and a small Grade 1-ish young boy in a partial body brace comes out of the school to meet his mom, and hops in the van......yep good effing thing I keep my mouth shut

I'm in the middle of the video, so I don't know if they mention this, but this guy had a total of 4 road rage and brandished his firearm incidents before this shooting. It wasn't known until after this interrogation, and after the sheriff initially dropped all charges under Florida's stand your ground law. A month later, one of the sheriff's deputies sent the brandishing incidents to the Florida state attorney, because it was a pattern of behavior, and because the case was clearly NOT stand your ground. It was then that the tape was reviewed and charges were filed.

I’m so horribly sorry you went through that I remember clearly even though I was so extremely young when a horrible woman attacked my mother and I at a Publix parking lot over a handicap spot just because my father who was recently amputated hadn’t got out yet. I just remember my moms strength leaving her at this point she had been through hell with having to keep everything together through all of the tragedy my daddy endured and it was an extremely painful and emotional time for us all I never had seen my mom lose it before but after the words that nasty woman said she completely lost it she couldn’t take it anymore and now I don’t blame her but I was terrified that she was going to put a hurting on that woman and that judgmental winches face when my dad tried to hurry himself more landing on his face and helpless body he hadn’t even been out of rehab 3 days I felt hate the fact a stranger could make my parents suffer so much sickening my mothers emotional breakdown and now my fathers as he couldn’t stand he couldn’t get to his wife in time fell and was helpless it was a horrific day I hope that woman made big life changes dang I can’t believe how ingrained that day still is 20 years later

I don't judge those who park in handicapped spaces even though they don't have a handicap sign because I don't know what's going on with them. I am an example in point. Last winter I broke my foot. I am 63 years old, and I live in Alaska where there is always ice and snow on the ground. Although I don't have a handicapped sign during those 6 weeks I parked in such a space because I did not wish to fall and cause further damage to the foot that was broken. I did have a walking cast and a walker and no one ever confronted me or ask questions. I did not need to apply for a handicapped parking sign as it was only for 6 weeks.

Even when all handicap spots are taken, she doesn’t make a big deal about it. She needs the spot due to her truck having a lift and it comes to the driver side to bring her the w/c. So she needs the large handicap parking space. Otherwise she doesn’t complain about having to roll her w/c a lil extra distance (although I’m sure it can be tiring for her).

One thing needs to be clear. This was not a handicapped spot. You didn't need a placard to park there. The owner had taken a normal parking space on the side of his building (far away from the entrance) and designated it as a spot a person with a wheelchair could use if they needed more space). The ramp was a make shift ramp. It was a home made sign by the owner. The owner did not prohibit other people from using it.
Additionally the girlfriend (who was driving) stayed in the car in case someone did need to use it; she would move. She did nothing wrong.
At the time; there were plenty of open spaces in front of the store for a handicapped person to park who needed room.
Driejka monitored only that space continuously. He was confronting anyone who parked there. He even pointed a gun at some people. The owner filed numerous complaints against home with the police department.
He cared nothing about handicapped people. He knew people were likely to park there so he wanted a confrontation. If he truly cared about people then he would have monitored a real handicapped spot.
Recommend you watch the trial to see the whole picture of the situation.

It seems to me that if she had done so. Done something like that JUST BEEN NICE, then this whole incident would have been avoided.
Instead, there's now one guy dead and one guy in prison for life because she wouldn't move her illegally parked vehicle?
And if it was a handicap space and she's not handicapped, neither is her boyfriend, then she didn't belong in that space.
People need to stop making excuses for rude behavior too it's caused a lot of problems and it will continue to do so.

This dad pushing a stranger because he saw a man harassing his wife, a weenie with a gun frothing at the mouth to “stand his ground” somewhere, somehow. This murder is beyond tragic. But the ending made me want to stand up and cheer.

Yeah, They have $500.00 fine posted with our handicapped signs, but I'm not sure if they ever enforce it but, I actually did.😊 I have metastatic breast cancer and I take oral chemo. It makes me sick and weak at time making waking difficult. I have a female friend who had a handicapped placard like I've had for a while and theirs are times when I'm feeling well that I DON'T use it., We have limited parking spots in my small town. Hers had expired and she and her boyfriend were still using there are times when I couldn't find a spot and I'd see their Jeep parked there, Again, this is a small town. I didn't say anything the first time and about a week late she and I were on the phone and I told her that if her and her lazy boyfriend take a spot again, I'm going to report him.She felt kinda bad, but that wasn't stopping her, Well, they did it again. I wasn't feeling well, there were no more availabe spots. I had had enough. I walked into the store after I had to park somewhat far away and while walking towards the store, I had walked past their car that was parked nice and close. Grrrr! After being in the store a bit I had spotted them. The look in HIS face was priceless. I didn't have to say a word to either of them.I TOLD them, and it wasn't easy because she has been a friend of mine for 16 years at that time. Long before they got together, to move their car NOW or I was calling ( last name of Sheriff). He walked out to move the car and she and I continued to talk and she was very apologetic. We are still friends. Her boyfriend and I if we see each other just nod, but don't greet each other anymore. I've never seen their Jeep parked there since.

That’s how much it is in my city as well. My coworker was actually cited the other day for this exact offense. Only it was just a case of having a placard, but the placard not being in the car.

The guy actually pushed him with both hands, not running up and tackling him. He also never made any move towards him when he was on the ground, he actually stepped back two steps. Don't know if it's here, but he did say if the victim hadn't charged him or stayed still when he was on the ground he wouldn't have shot him, but that wasn't true. Three people came forward with stories of Drejka threatening to shoot them prior to the shooting. The dept here refused to charge him, only after someone with sense investigated was he charged with manslaughter. Got 20 years. Good

Lesson learned. Don't take the law into your own hands. Don't be a vigilante. Call the police. Some people might realize their mistake after you tell them and then move their care. But I think the people that would do that is probably about 2%. I think most people would tell him to go mind his own business. I don't like confrontations so I would probably just apologize and move. You never know if someone is unstable or what they are capable of so that's just how I handle any situation when a stranger is confronting me. This guy was way out of line with what he did. Trying to be a cop or vigilante and take the law into his own hands.

That man was turning away when he shot. There was no threat. He’s just a rabid pos with a weapon. Glad he’s in jail now.
