-로이킴, 화려하게 피어나는 스물 다섯 번째 봄
20대의 시작, 그 푸르른 봄날에 로이킴은 [봄봄봄]을 노래하는 앳된 모습으로 우리 앞에 나타났다. 그리고 어느새 로이킴은 스물다섯 번째의 봄을 맞았다. 20대의 반환점을 돌아 맞이하는 ‘변花’의 봄. 로이킴은 데뷔 이래 처음 선보이는 미니앨범 開花期(개화기)를 들고 돌아왔다.
스물다섯의 로이킴은 그 동안 우리가 알던 로이킴과 달라졌다. 순수함, 차분함 등으로 그를 알던 이들에게는 충분히 배신감마저 안겨줄 수 있을 정도의 변신이다. 하얗게 탈색한 머리와 파격적인 패션. 장난기가 느껴지는 표정에서는 과거 어디 즈음에 머물러있던 청춘이 아닌, 지금 살아있는 청춘을 느낄 수 있다. 인생의 ‘개화기’를 맞이한 스물 다섯 살. 로이킴은 가장 아름다운 청춘의 모습으로 새롭게 피어났다.
이번 미니앨범에 담긴 여섯 곡에서는 로이킴의 성장을 확인할 수 있다. 그간 나이보다 성숙한 감성, 아니 어쩌면 그저 순수하기만 했던 그의 음악을 기억하고 있다면, 이제는 그 고정관념을 버려도 좋을 것이다. 사랑 앞에서, 그는 이제 더 이상 여유롭지 않다. 오히려 더 혼란스럽고 변덕스러워지고, 더 솔직해졌다. 역설적일 수 있지만, 그렇게 사랑을 알아가며, 로이킴은 성장하고 있다.
사랑에 대해 이제 좀 알 것 같고 나름의 확신도 가져 보지만, 실제로는 갈팡질팡하게 되는 나이. 조금 익숙해졌지만 아직 서툴러도 괜찮은 나이. 한발 짝 물러나 보면 한없이 찬란하게 느껴질, 스물 다섯. 미니앨범 [개화기]에는 바로 지금의 로이킴이 고스란히 담겨 있다.
2017년의 봄은 눈부시다. 새로움에 대한 기대와 설렘이 가득한 이 계절. 이제 막 시작된 성장의 시기. 스물 다섯 로이킴은 지금 가장 아름답게 피어나고 있다.

누군가를 사랑하고 이별을 한 후, 그 과정의 아픔과 고통을 지나, 떠나간 사랑에 대한 감사와 행복을 바라는 마음만 남아있는 성숙한 감정을 그려보았다. 더 행복하고 더 설렘 가득하게 살길 바라면서, 혹시 다시 만나게 된다면, 그 때의 여지를 남겨두는 변덕스러운 마음도 있다. 쿨한 척 하지만 사실은 찌질한 남자의 모습을 생각했다. 다 잊었다 생각 했을 때 문득 떠올라 그리움에 괴롭거나 추억에 웃음짓게 만드는 그 누군가가 모두에게 있을 거라 생각하고, 타이틀로 정했다.

The only korean soloist that made me fanatic towards him is Roy Kim. I enjoy listening to Eric Nam, K.Will, Younha but none of them turned me into a fanatic, enough to watch their variety shows, search for the translation of the entire album, analyze the lyrics and made me want to buy the physical album asap.
I swear I can listen to his voice all day long. It's just so soothing, it brightens up my mood in an instant.
I think he's a little bit underrated so truly hope he gets more recognition. I hope one day he can do an international tour so I can watch him live.
