not even half way thru this vid and had to stop and say that this is the most detailed and intricate pen video I HAVE EVER SEEN. cheers to you and well done. I feel like its in my hand. thanks for all you do. btw, nice tee. "the Warriors are good. Real good." "the best!"
Thanks for the review. Helped me decide on whether to buy this pen. I guess the next bit is a bit pedantic but here's the translation of TWSBI. TWSBI's name stands for the phrase "Hall of Three Cultures" or "San Wen Tong" in Chinese. The character "Wen" translates into language and culture. The phrase "San Wen Tong" also brings to mind the Hall of the Three Rare Treasures created by Emperor Qianlong as a memorial to three great masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy. The initials of the phrase "San Wen Tong" was reversed and thus turned into "TWS". The last letters "Bi" was added with its literal meaning of "writing instruments". Thus combining the two segments, creating TWSBI.
Your macro photos are incredible. That hair and Jurassic Park reference is killing me though!!! 🤣 Haven’t gotten my Go in the mail yet, but I’ve been excited for it. I love TWSBI medium and broad nibs soooo much. I have no doubt I’d have gotten my first fountain pen a few months earlier if this little guy had been on the market at the time!
The TWISBI Go is in my opinion a great winner. A work horse that is reasonably tough, easy to disassemble, easy to clean and great to write with. Regards. Great review.
It seems like a good pen for frequent colour changes and quick cleaning perhaps. Might be good in an ink fight or to escape predators underwater (depending on if the push rod forces ink out). Visually I'm not digging the giant spring though, or the milky plastic cap. It gives it an uncomfortably industrial look. I'd prefer a non-transparent bottom and cap.
Thank you for this! A few of my viewers have asked, but I'm not really a first adopter. I'll let people like you forge the path! Interesting about the hair in the plastic. It's not something I've ever even thought about, but I suppose it's like getting food in a restaurant. Sometimes it just happens.
A year out, my TWSBI GO has one small crack (2-3 mm) in the cap where the colored finial fits into the cap, above the “roll stop.” There is another small crack, 3-4 mm, where the cap liner is touching the outer cap. Mine has a stub nib, and I have never found a good pen/ink combination. My friend has a medium nib, and has no flow issues.
I love demonstrators, so I bought this because you can see the spring and it's blue... also for the cool filling mechanism. I agree a perfect knock-about pen and good starter.
David, thanks for the review and especially the size comparison, for some reason I had thought the pen would be smaller in length, but the size comparison dispelled that. Certainly a pen I would consider as a gift for people wanting to get into FP's, also the design is different and I agree with you kind of cool.
Thank you for the video! I was on the fence about this model, particular because of the look. It's grown on me since it was first revealed. I'm glad to hear that it's a respectable pen especially at that price.
Your review confirms what I have found with my Go sapphire. The past week I have really enjoyed this pen. A very fair price value for a pen with character and aesthetics. I hope they do well. Thanks for you thoughts.
Do you prefer the Go over the Eco? Or in other words, would you pay the extra $10 for the Eco, or is the Go a better option at $10 less? I have several Ecos and a Go on the way, just want to know what you think. Thanks for the great in depth review!
The nib and feed are standard Twsbi so works well The fill system is fool proof and is very good as you can fill very easy But the spring sticks sometimes Unfortunately After the grip the girth of the pen is very thick wide so the pen is not comfortable to hold I was quite surprised In fact it took me time to figure out why it was uncomfortable So I went back to the Eco, Mini and Classic
Thank you David for the review . I still haven't got one of these i keep meaning to but then something else comes along but it looks like a reasonable pen & a little bit fun.
Hey David, as this is a cheaper pen it's probably aimed at children and a younger audience to a degree. The hole, then, is likely there as an anti-choking measure. You'll notice this on things like the Kakuno as well!
I hate that I now have to study the background of every video you post after the last stunt you pulled. THANKS DAVID. I have a blue EF (was hoping for a B) coming along with a 580 EF and a coral nemosine singularity and a demonstrator pelikan M205. That was an expensive goulet order (but by no means my most expensive by a factor of like four... I need help.)
Good review. I picked up the blue with the 1.1 stub and it’s a smooth writer. I like the feel of the section better then the Eco which I felt like you did bother my fingers, for some reason this one does not bother me. I wonder if the hole is to vent the body so that heat from the hand using the pen would not heat up the ink chamber. I have found this pen does not seem to be effected by heat as much as other models. In my mind it’s a great knock around pen and I am thinking of adding a M or B in smoke to go with my 1.1. I actually think it’s a better pen then the Eco, but would not replace a 580. I love that we have a cheep pen with a good capacity to give or suggest to new users. I also had an issue with deep bottles. I had a little bit of an issue with a half full Robert Oster bottle when filling mine.
David, I seem to recall that one of your favorite blue inks is the Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-peki. So is this Color Verse ink more or less saturated in comparison to Kon-peki? And I thank you for your time your expertise and your videos.
I really like the TWSBI Go pens too - got mine in broad & 1.1mm stub. I found I got a tad more than 1.5 ml of ink into mine! Sorry the TWSBI room was closed during your trip!
Inkcident... Love it, I'm going to use that. The Pen at this time doesn't appeal to me because of the spring, should TWSBI make the pen with a solid coloured body to hide the spring it would be better, (for me) however I'm sure TWSBI made the pen a demonstrator so that the filling mechanism would be a talking point. Again for myself, I would prefer it to have a larger nib. The price is really good, here in the UK you change the currency signs to get our prices, so $ become £ if you then convert that back with the currency exchange calculator you see we immediately pay more than our US cousins, but that's how it is... A novel filling system which is quite appealing but I'm thinking it's going to lead to inkcidents . It would be interesting to know say 6months down the road. So,,, thank you for another excellent review and I look forward to whatever you review next. Best wishes to all pen people. LeZc @@
Hi David, Thank you for the thorough review of the TWSBI Go. Which TWSBI model do you prefer & which nib has given you the most pleasant writing experience? Best regards,
thanks for the deep full review ... actually got it because of the spring ... one good thing about it is. one can trim the spring to make it easier to depress without changing the look .. which I love :-) those inclined can even replace it with blue or red colour spring LOL
Hi I just bought mine medium and it is dry every initial time I begin writing. Usually when I slide right or left and I write cursive but can also be dry and I begin to write in any direction. Should I return it?
@@FigbootonPens thank you, I emailed twsbi and they told me to send it with the ink I used and they will see what is wrong. Nice service and helpful. Hopefully they can see what I was dealing with.
I have a Twsbi eco which is OK. I don't use much ink. So cartridge converters suit me. I have a Pilot Decimo now with Medium and stub nib units. I absolutely love it. Not cheap but awesome. Very easy to change over to a different colour ink and a variation in the writing experience. I am not buying any more new pens, only vintage now.
I just bought mine about 3 weeks ago and got the clear. It is a nice pen for my purse. I didn't like it at first but it has grown on me. I have an extra fine nib. Most of my pens are the TWSBI Eco of which I have three and two Pilot Metropolitans.
The hole in the barrel is mandatory for all pens which are designed for children and students. At least in some countries. BTW I would like to see this pen in a burgundy color.
I think this entry level pen is nice, 3 TWSBIs i already have and i am waiting untill its available on amazon that i can get it too and can order it to germany :-)
The ugliest pen I have ever owned and still do, and one of the best writers with a nib. Always depress the spring completely BEFORE inserting into the bottle as this video shows otherwise you will pump a sizeable quantity of air into the bottle with dire consequences. Easy to fill, flush and refill with a different colour. Full range of quality nibs. Just be sure not to confuse it with your vaping pipe! Thanks, Fig for this review.
I wasn't sure at first but the more I see this pen the more I like it. Slightly turned off at the thought of someone's DNA being preserved in the pen...ugh! I believe Chris Saenz got one with a broad nib and that writes nice. I don't own any TWSBI pens so this might be my first....
I really hate the packaging of colorverse inks. Firstly, I have to cut into the label to open the box, which SUCKS for people like me who display inks on shelves in their boxes. Second, the boxes are ENORMOUS, taking up space. Third, the little bottle sucks in so many ways. I'd rather have either an 80mL bottle or no little bottle at all, since if it's the same color, why bother? and if it's a different color, I can't BUY a big bottle of that color, which annoys me, and the little bottles are obnoxious to use. Colorverse inks are cool, I like the bottle shape, I like the ink quality, I am a SUCKER for space themed anything, and I am happy to pay the premium. But please god get rid of the tiny bottle, make the box smaller, and either drop the price a smidge or give me a bigger bottle of regular ink.
20 bucks for a plastic pen that looks like a toy and has a hideous spring at the back? A preppy looks more stylish. And you can get like 7 for the same price. The hair in there was the thing that pushed from meh to hell-no

I got the stub version and lucked out with a superbly smooth and wet nib. The plastic looks and feels great and the barrel shape is very nice to hold.
Peregrine Slim I also got the stub and it’s great!
OK NOW I need the stub. Already do a VAC700 ‘M’..
I also got the stub. Very smooth, and I like the overall shape and thickness.
