The 35mm as A camera and 85mm as a B camera is my go to combo for interviews. 🤙

I second your motion. I love having the closeup for the punch in and the help when I need to edit too.

Great video. One note - Since it was codified in March 2011, BT.1886 is the industry standard for SDR monitoring, not BT.709 that only defines HD-TV camera capture.

I stopped watching this channel for a while because Val wasn't on. Great to see her back, I really like how she explains things. It's helped IMMENSELY with my humble TH-cam channel.

I mostly love 35mm as my A cam and 85mm or 70-200 mm as my B Cam. I think the backside light is just a new technique I have learnt from watching this video. I do it in a different way but I love your technique. Thank you for sharing

Yeah the 35mm + 85mm is standard when the set looks nice. If you want to compress the background or focus more on subject, you can go 50mm + 135mm. That 50mm bokeh is 🤌

you raised very important points , for sure the 35 mm is much better, and this lead to another point I hope you discuss it which is killing the background by using the shallow depth of field I think it is overused and doesn't allow the audience to understand the surrounding areas, I believe that the film is considered as a document to the era produced using shallow depth of field doesn't allow this
regards and thanks for invaluable tips hoping to see much more in next episodes

I think the close-ups are stuck with us from the SD/VHS era when you could not tell who is in a wide shots . You really needed close-up shots to see a clear face.

0:17 I like top picture a lot more... Lighting is better, colors are more organic. Low picture that is "after" Is orange, strangly lit and feels weird. Just my feedback as viewer.

Ironic that her face doesn’t have good lighting. The shadows are just distracting to me.
