  • www.autobytel.c... The 2013 Toyota Yaris is part of the increasingly popular subcompact car segment. These vehicles combine excellent fuel economy and the low base prices into one appealing package. The Yaris is now in its 3rd generation and is sold as both a 2 and 4-door hatchback. For 2013 the sedan configuration has been dropped from the Yaris line-up. This little subcompact car is safe, versatile, fuel efficient, and affordable with a base starting price of only $14,370.
The Toyota Yaris has is origins way back in the year 1999 with the Echo. The Echo enjoyed a bit of success thanks to the lack of competition. Fast forward to 2013 and this subcompact car segment is packed full of great competitors. This 3rd generation car has gone through a couple of iterations but the practical hatchback design has stood the test.
The engine that powers the 2013 Toyota Yaris is nothing revolutionary. The 1.5 liter 4-cylinder makes 106 horsepower and 105 lb-ft. of torque with fuel economy figures of 30 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway. Transmission choices are between a 4-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual.
Some other competitors in this segment are the: Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Sonic, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and the Mazda2. A couple of those cars feature a direction injection engine while others feature a 6-speed transmission. The Yaris may be a bit behind the times but what separates the little Toyota from the competition is the great resale value and reliability.
If you are looking for a functional and reliable car that is going to serve a purpose, the 2013 Toyota Yaris does it as well as anyone.

I test drove a Yaris purely on accident. It was a rental while my old car (2004 Kia Rio) was in the shop. Turns out that, to me, it's actually quite a fun car. I love how it gives just enough acceleration when I need it. It doesn't feel cheap or unreliable like some of the other cars I've looked into. I tested a Ford Fiesta, Mazda2, Kia Rio, and Chevy Sonic. All I can say is don't always judge a car by professional reviews (Non-owners). What fits one, doesn't fit all.

There is a 2014 Yaris Sedan model now of days, and it is worth checking out. I currently have a 2014 Yaris SE Hatchback and it has wonderful gas mileage (35/40 easy) and has all the little things you could want :D
It's honestly a very nice car and will last for years, since it is indeed a toyota - super reliable. Not to mention the warranty on it is amazing!

Go read up. Corolla is the number one selling name plate in the world. The 1.8 is legendary. Extremely reliable and durable. People say the Corolla is boring...who's the fool? Why fix whay isn't broken. The 2014 Corolla has been redesigned. Same motor. They know. Why create a new motor when what you have is so reliable and refined. The 1.5 in the Yaris is as durable and reliable as the 1.8 in the corolla. I am partial to Toyota cause reliabilty is my most important feature.

I test drive a yaris too, saw on at the dealership and thought let see what that cheap car is about, when i got in I was like wow, its really comfortable, smooth, and fun to drive, its quite speeding and feel like you're driving go kart. For an economy car, you really can't go wrong. it got radio, blue tooth, 4 seat and big trunk space and super MPG

If all you want is an inexpensive and reliable car that will get you where you need to go, and drinks gas sparingly, the Toyota Yaris may very well be for you.
And don't forget about Toyota's badge of reliability.

I agree not all of us have the money or need the bell and whistle, some of us don't live in our car, we get inside get from point A to point B and nothing more. All we need is a safe reliable car. I know more than a few people who household income is over 500k but they stick with good old corolla and camry

I have a 3 door 5 speed manual and let me tell you 2nd gear tops out at 60MPH accidentally found that out went from 3rd to 2nd while getting up to speed. 4th gear at 4500 RPMS you're sitting at 75 MPH, I'll be cruising in 5th gear on the interstate and have to slow down bc it will feel like I'm doing 75 and be pushing 100 😅

My 2007 Yaris hatchback gets an average of 38.5 mpg... That's a lifetime average. It has about 98000 miles logged now. Sometimes on a long trip I get as much as 43 mpg. I think the sticker estimates are a little too low. I use Mobil 1 oil in all of My cars. My Yaris is an automatic. I wonder what I could get with a 5 speed?

Okay, I am a bit of Toyota Kook. I have owned Lexus LS sedans, JDM models and they have all been great. We have an 07 Yaris 5 door, purchased in 07, and it has been great. Supple ride, good fuel economy. If your partner likes their Toyota, you are good for many years for car brain damage free living. :-) As Chico Marx asked, "Who are you going to believe me or your eyes?" :-)

That has always been the main issue with the echo/yaris for me; I have to choose weather my legs or arms are comfortable, not both.
And they need to centre the speedometer again...

Unlike the Hatchback, the 2012 Yaris Sedan was a carry-over from 2011, and then took a leave of absence for the 2013 model year. Now that Toyota has released the updated Vios/Belta for 2014 in Europe and Asia, is the sedan coming back to North America for the 2014 model year, and if it does is it getting the new CVT transmission from the new Corolla or will it keep the (ancient) 4 speed auto that's in the hatchback now?
