They're not repairing their phones because of OEM vendor-locked parts and extortionate pricing Apple, not because you actually fixed anything or made it more reliable.

I think the point is, Marques sold out, he doesn't actually represent a tech critic nor does he represent much of a journalist, beyond reading the products web page in a video. Have you not watch a single MKBHD video? Him and his team are rather neutral on a lot of things. Notice how Louis doesn’t go after Marquees specifically, but more on Apple.
If anything, he just further exposed Apple’s intentions on what they are trying to do in the future of fighting right to repair.
Without that interview with the lead apple engineer, no regular non-technical person would have known that this is what they were planning.
Don’t watch to support an idea. Instead watch to be informed so you know what to do with that new info.

I know more about tech and most of the products they review (mkbhd , mrwhotheboss and most of the mobile reviewers not ltt, gamer nexus, hardware unboxed)
Fun fact: Did you know that in engineering schools, we are taught to calculate warranty periods using statistics - not for protecting users, but to create a statistically maximum cost for the company.
For example, if your boss tells you he only wants to pay for 5% of devices that is expected to break, plug that into the formula, and it spits out how long your warranty term should be.
Moral of the story? No company is for the user or for the sake of humanity. They are all just guises for the shareholders and C suite.
Change starts in schools.
Engineering schools should primarily teach how to make good products for the people that use them, not for those that sell them.

I learned I had a passion for being an honest repairman and an honest salesman when I worked for Radioshack before their decline. They lied to me about things to make me think I was an honest salesman, but I loved feeling like one and learned to verify hearsay before claiming it's true myself. I became an engineer, mechanic, repair tech, and salesman all in one and I've never had an unsatisfied client.
Why? Mechanics are constantly scamming their customers into unnecessary “repairs”. Where do you think the blinker fluid joke comes from?
@@ultimatepotato713 at least they know what they are talking about. So a mean-spirited person will scam you sure, but salesmen most of the time sell stuff they have no knowledge about and they claim it's not their fault if they scam you. Ignorance is bliss.
So yes, a mechanic can and some do scam you you but it's less likely. Especially because in that case you want regular maintenance on your vehicle so a recurring customer is way better than one you scammed once and doesn't come back to you.

If Apple made cars, if you got a puncture, you'd have to replace it.
- remove the glued fender
- use a special key to unscrew the rim
- for this you would have to replace half of the suspension
- and finally, after collecting everything, it would turn out that not everything works as it should, because the replaced parts are not from this specific car, but were taken from another one intended for parts
You'd have to ship the entire front suspension assembly out for warranty.
If they made cars you couldn't fill them up - you'd have to come to an apple store, buy a new petrol tank and they would unscrew the empty tank and replace it with a full one.

Truthfully i hope he hears this, pursuing this battle may be best served by him PERSONALLY taking up the legal mantle of this crusade. I strongly believe whatever time it would take him to get a law degree would get to real progress in the legal system for this. With the chevron defense gone if he can present and assistnin formulating a simple clear system for repair law and regulatory requirements to do so he could get actual legislation in place somewhere and do what california does and force all companies to follow that base standard even with only having it be state legislation.

big case in Australia where a new 2021 Mercedes Benz was purchased for $85,000. Car was well maintained & serviced by Merc Benz dealership. October 2024 owner noticed that the leather steering wheel was showing cracks & some of the stitching was pulling away. Took car back to MB dealership for warranty claim. Dealership sent warranty claim (with photos & detailed description of defects) to Mercedes Benz Australia. MB (Aust) denied the claim stating 'normal wear & tear'.
Long story short, MB (Aust) was taken to court, and lost, after spending approx. $100K in attorneys, court costs, etc. rather than replacing the $6K steering wheel under warranty.
Ain't no steering wheel that costs 6k, especially not on an 85k Merc
Because the company hopes that if the case wins they could use the case to prevent other customers claims. Fortunately they lose the case.

Hey let's not forget the outdated usb standard they used for years before the eu forced them to change to usb3 forcing people with non apple devices to have to buy a couple of different wires contributing to a ton of e waste. Let's not forget how awful apples usb cables were know for being. I had an ex who had to buy 3 different cables in 1 month because the cable just kept breaking.

Apple gives VIP treatment for top influencers that don’t heavily criticize them. By getting units early, inside access, and exclusive interviews it grows his channel and gets Apple positive coverage. If he was more critical, they wouldn’t give the access he uses to grow his channel revenue. With this clear mutual positive relationship MKBHD isn’t someone that should be trusted.

For laptops i only look at jarrod's tech for performance and just josh for overall usability. For smartphones its more tricky- i've found smaller channels to be far more in depth and informative (personal favourite for overall: just my tech, for cameras: tech phenomena)

@@syloui It's tricky, cause you need to be a blend of entertainment and information and advertising. LTT does reasonably well as making sure you are aware which it is. Some "reviewers" are just strait up shills for whoever gives them stuff. The is especially bad in the photo/video segment where a "review" is basically taking a thing out of a box, saying its amazing, and linking to an affiliate page.

You laugh, but Apple legit did this to my sister's iPod Touch back in the day! The 90%+ humidity in our state actually tripped the water damage sticker internally ... and they REFUSED to service it when the home button stopped working and the device was still under warranty. Needless to say, we haven't given Apple a single dollar again since that experience back in 2010/2011.

Louis, my guy, please keep doing work... I've been following your channel on and off for several years and you've been a beacon of hope in the tech-sphere. Sadly, every year, it seems that the future is looking more grim for us as more and more people are successfully groomed into accepting that you don't own what you "bought" and that preferred method of repair is replacement or/and upgrade.
Some day I'll take the easy way out, too. It's just that I put it off longer than others; it doesn't make me different or better than anyone I criticize. I spent 15 years fighting the good fight in my industry and trying to show people how to do this work with pride. What do I have to show for it? What does the industry have to show for it? We live in a less free world with regards to what you can do with what you bought and paid for than we did when I started in 2008.
I am human. Someday I'll choose to take the easy way out as well. The way that causes less long-term hair loss, and an easier life. Pushing a boulder uphill for no return on investment isn't something I do because I'm moral or ethical. It's something I do because I'm nuts. I started working at avatar studios as an intern in 2007, became a tech at the end of the year. I was 18.
It's 2024. I'm going to be 36. At some point, I *WILL* give up and take the easy money. I'm not virtuous. I'm not good. I'm not special. I'm being pushed out of what I've created. I lost. People with less to lose care less about principles.

I worked in the repair section of a major electronics retailer in 2020 and the part about Apple authorized technicians being certified mail carriers is 100% accurate.

He was some kind of senior computer tech person from some government department, who was temporarily on secondment to Mi5 (?) the British spy and intelligence agency ! It seems they also took part in the cover-up and forestalled any proper investigation into his death.
