This is my first time hearing about the warranty. I still have it despite moving on to a different iphone 😅 but does that mean I can still get it fixed under warranty??? Would be nice to have it operational again.
I really hate piling on. He seems like such a nice young man, but I've never watched one of his videos and learned anything. Never. I can't stand Louis Rossman, but every video of his I watch I learn something. What this tells me is that my social instincts are often wrong, and that sometimes I should just listen to my head, without the emotion.
As an ex iPhone repair tech (not working for apple), “We aim for a balance between durability and repairability” made my blood boil. Anyone who has been inside an iPhone will tell you that they do EVERYTHING in their power to make 3rd party repair impossible. They even lock aftermarket replacement parts with software so you have to use an expensive reprogramming device to make it work. What a load of dookie.
Yes thats the worst part. i dont mind glued down parts, propietrary screes etc. But the whole pairing Screens to the rest etc. Should be illegal. But on the Other hand, I blame lawmakers and goverment for not making it illegal
No, "The balance between durability and repairability" is a triple beam balance at their headquarters that stands in for a metaphor for consumer interests. They aim at it with a Remington 12 Gauge.
And how they like making a shit ton of similar looking screws that are actually different. I repaired a lot of phones and iphones were the worst. Most of android phones have PH00 screws in them and they are the same or have a different colour so you can differ them. iPhone needs at least 4 types of screwdrivers and don't you dare to mix up these screws cause you gonna damage some shit inside cause the screw was a hair pin longer
THIS is what MKBHD should be getting backlash for, not because he "killed" a company that made a bad product. But of course, for twitter and most of his viewers it is more important that he gets early access to Apple products, rather than making honest interviews with actual journalism
Such a huge following and he's still an apple fanboy to the core. He actually has a position where his feedback could be meaningfully effective to that company he cares so much about, but staying on their 'good' side is more important than staying loyal to his followers.
Have you not watch a single MKBHD video? Him and his team are rather neutral on a lot of things. Notice how Louis doesn’t go after Marquees specifically, but more on Apple. If anything, he just further exposed Apple’s intentions on what they are trying to do in the future of fighting right to repair. Without that interview with the lead apple engineer, no regular non-technical person would have known that this is what they were planning. Don’t watch to support an idea. Instead watch to be informed so you know what to do with that new info.
when you work with certain numbers all the time you just surprisingly start remembering them. I remember some random part numbers of products I've designed at work or have had to deal with a lot of revisions for
@@TheJunky228 I think it's just an ability I lack; I didn't spec into it when I did my character creation. Put too many points into Dex and none into Int.
Back in 2022 when he was doing a lot of driving streams, late at night, he would just spit out Macbook model numbers and all their features by heart to stay awake. It's seriously impressive.
I like how you can tell how pissed Louis is by the cadence of his speech. The more pissed he is, the faster he talks. This video is like 5/10 on anger scale. Louis, never change!>
you know that I was looking at the video and a moment after that sentence was said my brain went like "waaait a minute,.... was the phrasing just a coincidence or...."
Spot on. Apple sees people not bringing in their phones, etc. to be repaired as a win. But if your back glass is cracked and they want $300 and a whole screen replacement, it's obvious not as many people bite the bullet. They're not repairing their phones because of OEM vendor-locked parts and extortionate pricing Apple, not because you actually fixed anything or made it more reliable.
The fact that this man literally calling back soder points, parts number from memory literally goes to show how qualified he is for bringing up this arguments
And if you try to criticize the new product(s), there's a possibility that the maker of this product will strike your review because it "damages the image of their precious brand" (which is a sorta new trend btw, despite that some makers did that years ago)
@@deliternity What kind of an argument is that? Steve from Gamers Nexus doesn't give two shits if a tech company blacklists him. He'll pay with his own money if he wants to review something, which he's done numerous times. This cap doffing from 'influencers' and some tech TH-cam channels needs to stop. I personally realised after watching a couple of MKBHD's videos that he has no sincerity. He's on my 'Don't recommend channel' list, which grows daily. Humans are generally dumb and it both saddens and annoys me.
Because you’re a BOT. You’re being controlled by the company you hate. You’re just doing the opposite of what they say which means you’re still a SHEEP
I don’t do PCB design, so this is an analogy. I design control panels for a living. We take separation of voltages incredibly seriously. So, when I’m in the physical layout stage of my panels, I have to make time to make sure that all of my components and wire ways are designed and arranged so as to minimize overlap between different voltages. If I have a circuit that’s even 5 times smaller than another, nevermind 20x as is the case with the GPU pins 1 and 43, you can bet yourself it’s going to get priority for separation. To accomplish this, even in a panel with roughly 1500-2000 connection points, about 200 components and terminals, by myself, using only basic cad software, on a design that is only going to be fabricated once, it takes me between 1-3 days. Even if the components themselves have a mixed voltages. I’m very practiced at it by this point, and my panels look very beautiful because there’s a kind of beauty when you organize your voltages and signals well. Why does my company allow me to spend the time doing this? Because during commissioning, any SINGLE mixed voltage issue can take days to identify and troubleshoot, nevermind possibly damaged components with long lead times. The customer will also hold us accountable and start kicking and screaming when we try to convince them that it’s just how it has to be. So, that Apple can’t separate a ~2 volt SIGNAL line from a 50v POWER line that has given them problems is rather absurd. On a mass-produced component, any single failure that happens more than just once means that it has been replicated en mass, and will happen again. And again. And again. It wouldn’t take a team of PCB designers more than a few days or weeks to fix the issue of the traces being close at failure pints even for the first generation of a design, nevermind the the next one. And you can bet your ass they have the software for it. They’re not going to design devices counted in the millions with any old basic CAD software package. They KNOW what they’re doing.
I learned I had a passion for being an honest repairman and an honest salesman when I worked for Radioshack before their decline. They lied to me about things to make me think I was an honest salesman, but I loved feeling like one and learned to verify hearsay before claiming it's true myself. I became an engineer, mechanic, repair tech, and salesman all in one and I've never had an unsatisfied client.
@@ultimatepotato713 at least they know what they are talking about. So a mean-spirited person will scam you sure, but salesmen most of the time sell stuff they have no knowledge about and they claim it's not their fault if they scam you. Ignorance is bliss. So yes, a mechanic can and some do scam you you but it's less likely. Especially because in that case you want regular maintenance on your vehicle so a recurring customer is way better than one you scammed once and doesn't come back to you.
@@ultimatepotato713 The difference is that one knows what they're doing, the other just playing around. You can only fool someone as much as you know what you're fooling people with. Apple gives VIP treatment for top influencers that don’t heavily criticize them. By getting units early, inside access, and exclusive interviews it grows his channel and gets Apple positive coverage. If he was more critical, they wouldn’t give the access he uses to grow his channel revenue. With this clear mutual positive relationship MKBHD isn’t someone that should be trusted.
"Influencer" was literally used by corporations internally long before it became a common term, to describe social media stars, they used that term internally because they were openly using people with big social media followings to influence people, in secret, without disclosing anything as a commercial, one of the Paul brothers was directly implicated in a miniscule scandal that instantly vanished and nobody seems to remember ever happening. The fact that we're discussing which *Influencers* are and aren't "brand safe" is a great example of a successful memory hole.
"is a great example of a successful memory hole": This part implies that the whole discussion about brand safety is an attempt to forget or ignore a more important underlying issue. Did I understand that correctly?

Anyone who Apple allows on their premises, sends devices early to and allows to film an interview with Tim Cook should definitely not be trusted to fairly review products or decisions Apple makes. That much should have always been clear about Marquess. You should not listen to anything he says about Apple, because that's what Apple wants you to hear. In a perfect world, that would not be the case, because Apple would actually value independent media and treat every credible media outlet in exactly the same way. In the circus we currently live in, however, this is not the case, and Apple very much vets tech media they interact with.
I think the best advice is trust no one. Even people who value their credibility can make honest mistakes. And there are plenty of people who are willing to sell their credibility if the price is right. None of us have unlimited amounts of time to check everything everyone says, but if it sounds off and it's something that's important to you, then take a moment to look into it further.
@@rodh1404 Yes, I agree. However, my point is not so much about trust, as it is about reputation. Apple has a reputation of only blessing biased media with exclusive stuff. THIS is what MKBHD should be getting backlash for, not because he "killed" a company that made a bad product. But of course, for twitter and most of his viewers it is more important that he gets early access to Apple products, rather than making honest interviews with actual journalism

This one got me 😂
I don’t do PCB design, so this is an analogy.

*Wisdom here.*
Why? Mechanics are constantly scamming their customers into unnecessary “repairs”. Where do you think the blinker fluid joke comes from?
Mechanics fools with blinker fluids because they're aware there's no such thing to even repair. Salesman fools with blinker fluid because they didn't even aware there's no such thing, they just see it as extra services for bonus.
This didn't even factor the reputation. Mechanics risk their career for pennies... salesman... isn't that their whole thing?

All Apple products have a board issue, a board that cares more about profits than anything else....
Copy and paste that for the entertainment industry too.
Fuck that was funny
Nice 😂
@@aeducationenjoyer.1259 that's for every industry, because that's how they're supposed to operate. The problem, is that the profits are no longer tied to customer satisfaction. They've effectively discovered a way to make their money, and be profitble, without being accountable to customers, because customers don't have alternatives. It's really not the fault of the companies, it's the fault of the market for not adequately providing competition to keep large corporations accountable. Blame successful tech companies that immediately sell off to larger corporations, or fuck up in some way and destroy their brand that at one time had promise. Or blame samsung, Sony, and all the other electronics companies creating their own ecosystems, eliminating competition between one another in favor of locking customers into their product lines exclusively, etc.
This also happens in every other company and industry, but ofc apple is one the best examples about how bad this could go.
Most tech youtubers turned into salesmen. I am sick and tired of people only telling good things about products. When i was hunting for a laptop, i could not believe how disingenous most techtubers were.
Yeah I don't even watch tech TH-camrs for their opinions just what propaganda are they pushing 😂
In general I would always wait for the "old" tech sites to share their reviews as well , and always get multiple sources.
For laptops i only look at jarrod's tech for performance and just josh for overall usability. For smartphones its more tricky- i've found smaller channels to be far more in depth and informative (personal favourite for overall: just my tech, for cameras: tech phenomena)
@MrPipol-nm3cd Yeah, how horrible, he's selling us "don't support shitty companies that don't let third parties repair your stuff if that's what you want to do, that's how monopolies get set up".
He's not saying "Apple shouldn't repair its own stuff", he's saying "you should be able to get someone that isn't Apple, or if you're particularly brave, you should be able to try the repairs yourself".
He's not even saying "you should do business with me exclusively", just "if you're in the area, I'm an option" when he talks about his business.
But then again you're some userpic-less empty channel rando so who knows maybe you just gargle Apple upper management balls for your paycheck.
I spent so much time watching reviews before buying my laptop, and everyone said it was alright. When I actually bought it, it was the biggest waste of money I've ever made.

MKHD been on Apple's payroll since.
Yup and the earth is flat
That's a long way of saying Apple gives treatment to those who deepthroat.
Influenza
"is a great example of a successful memory hole": This part implies that the whole discussion about brand safety is an attempt to forget or ignore a more important underlying issue.

You laugh, but Apple legit did this to my sister's iPod Touch back in the day! The 90%+ humidity in our state actually tripped the water damage sticker internally ... and they REFUSED to service it when the home button stopped working and the device was still under warranty. Needless to say, we haven't given Apple a single dollar again since that experience back in 2010/2011.
I dont know why people listen to what Apple says anymore. I stopped when they said they removed charger and claimed it's for environment.
nothing taught me more about how little corporations care about their customers than working as a repair tech. opening up hundreds of laptops, phones, and tablets shows just how many corners can get cut while making a working product
If I may respectfully sugest a change to part of your comment... "working product" should be "cost optimized product".
Be careful with you usage of working
Anyone who Apple allows on their premises, sends devices early to and allows to film an interview with Tim Cook should definitely not be trusted to fairly review products or decisions Apple makes. That much should have always been clear about Marquess. You should not listen to anything he says about Apple, because that's what Apple wants you to hear.
In a perfect world, that would not be the case, because Apple would actually value independent media and treat every credible media outlet in exactly the same way. In the circus we currently live in, however, this is not the case, and Apple very much vets tech media they interact with.
Nah, the corruption goes beyond Apple because his access is so valuable in views he gets that it taints everything.
Marquess has a reputation of having a good relationship with Apple. Last time I checked, two plus two was equal to four. When it changes to five, three or minus one, this will be evidence that logic no longer applies in this world and we need to rethink whether or not to listen to Marquess when it comes to Apple stuff.

I even argue the very opposite! It's just another lame excuse for Apple's anti repair practices!
Making your device dust proof requires to seal it and therefore makes it less repairable. It doesn't mean you can't repair it or that you have to use different kind of screws inside so nobody can use a normal screwdriver nor that you have to make the cables very short so that by opening it you are more likely to break them

Toyota and Honda have 3/36k and 5/60k warranties for the same things.
