Can someone tell me what the contraption was BEFORE being retrofitted as a log splitter. I love the simplicity of the thing. Also, I have dreams of making kindling like that. I am in US, can you tell me what type of wood you are splitting? Is it green or have you allowed it to dry? It appears you struggle slightly with what looks like Oak to me. Any answers to my questions would be most appreciated and thank you for posting this video. Where are you by the way...?
Hallo Warddan! I live in Sweden. The splitter is mainly composed of parts from scrapped farming and logging machines. The spring is from a Volvo car. In the video I split green birch and oak and, in the end of the video, dry sallow. The oak in the video is unfortunately a bit cross-grained. Normally oak is hard but nevertheless good to split. Birch and sallow are both very good to split. All the time I try to improve the splitter, you can see at th-cam.com/video/AxjguFuMA5o/w-d-xo.html and read www.pidia.se/ingmarsklyv.html how it works today. Just these days I'm working out how to stop the dangerous swinging of the axe when I release the handle.
Not sure if anyone gives a damn but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother during the lockdown =)
reminds me of my grandfather in Germany and even looks like him. he made it to 94 and died 35 years ago. Sweet memories! Nice video.
Perfect simplicity, thank you for sharing 🤍 Would you care to share the way it is constructed?
Great idea Mr.Klyv i recently saw your vidieo and trying to make one at this time.
Excellent! Will build one similar...
Go Sweden!
Technology without insanity! A very rare thing!
What a testimony to the triumph of human ingenuity!!!
Om han hade satt ett bygelhandtag 30 cm längre ner på framsidan av själva klyven så hade han fått bra mycket mer kraft!

relentlessly amazing!!
Great Job! Works like a Charm!
Man that is SLICK!
Genialisk produkt
Looks faster than an expensive gas splitter. Heading to scrap yard now.
Jättefint! Specielt de tändstickorna :-)
I love it . I have a couple piles i need to do right now but cant stand doing it because ataxia and stuff. I could hit the mark with that tool !!!!
I think you what you mean is that the Russian Woodpecker is easier to use than to swing an axe.
Brilliant. I'm going to replicate this idea with what I can find.
That man is smart! WOW!

@Aarav Brodie Yup, been using Instaflixxer for since november myself =)
Looks like walnut to me, the ones with the dark heartwood. If it is, it's a real waste to use it for firewood.
Otherwise a genius contraption.
Fantastic! So simple and perfect. Its not walnut. Its oak.
It’s very cool!
Gillar din lösning, och helt utan el eller hydraulik
No! Such a contrapment would both be impractical, unpredictable and unsafe.
I think the biggest danger is to his left thumb, and I'm not really sure him holding the wood serves much purpose.

NO
Wouldn't it be better if it were reversed?
Spring on opposite side, heavier weighted wedge, pulley to raise wedge..like a guillotine.
wonder how much the head weighs? 100lbs? 500lbs? 1k lbs?
The head weighs 83 lbs when spring is taken away.
Ingmar Andersson Thanks a lot, really like your splitter, thanks for showing us all how it works.
Tyst och lugnt slippa höra oljud
Genius.
👍
And on top of that, fails to rise up to the standards of mere simplicity as seen here.
En kanon klyv...
За такое изобретение штрафовать надо!
Jaha så du är svensk, går ju nånting på youtube med den andra videon om att det skulle vara nån från ukraina.
!!!
손가락 조심해야겠네 ㅠ ㅠ
