went for the 'Portrait of Poland' myself, I think it's quite underrated, tagging a country as target it always implies to behave like a foreigner, even if you are part of it, just flat, IMHO. He reminds me a Spanish photographer in a way, Cristóbal Hara, I feel it. Kudos Tatiana.
i haven't been on your channel for a while and now i see that the high level has even risen. one of the best channels for photography worldwide. thank you, tatiana
A terrific mini documentary you did about Bruno Barbey. Although I never heard about this photojournalist before today, his photographs are very fascinating. Barbey and Ernst Haas were both expert in capturing the who, the what, the where and why of storytelling. Bruno Barbey wasn't a professional amateur photographer, but professional photojournalist. It's unfortunate he left us during the height of the coronavirus outbreak. I wonder how he would've captured the world post the pandemic/lockdown.
Excellent video Tatiana, I must say I never heard of Barbey until now and I'm in complete awe, his work is nothing short of stunning and I find it most inspiring. I definitely am putting him on my study list.. Thank you!
Amazing, so glad when this happens and I get to introduce people to fantastic photographers! I personally hadn’t heard of him before until someone left a comment in a random video of mine. Noted it and now here we are :)
Have never heard about this photographer, I’m so glad you introduced him to me! Absolutely love his Moroccan photos 🙌🏻. Thank you for another great video!
Thank you for making this video. Bruno Barbey is one of my favorite photographers. His use of patterns in his composition is prominent. Not only an eye candy but with strong message/story as well.
Another great video Tatiana. - ‘The ideal picture tells something of the essence of life. It sums up emotion, it holds the feeling of movement thereby implying the continuity of life.’ - Bert Hardy.
glad to see you giving more talks about diffrent photographers, listening I discover more photographers I haven't heard of & things about photographers I have heard of👍
I actually can see what you’re saying, I described him to someone yesterday as a cross between Cartier-Bresson and Alex Webb due to all the travelling and colour!
Glad you’re back with your videos! Will vote when I finish watching completely, don’t know much about Barbey’s work except his My Morocco and that he was Magnum’s president for some time.
Lovely and informative video. Didn't previously know about the photographer, but now, I am blessed to know about him and his work. I would like you to dive deeper into his 3rd project on China. I hope you get to know more about the Chinese culture and how Bruno's work on China is different and unique from other Western photographers' depiction of Chinese culture. I would like to know about the visual techniques and the sequencing methods he took upon to showcase his 45 years long project on a big populated country like China. Much love and support to you. Keep up this good work.
The video is great and I thank you with my heart. If possible, for the next videos I suggest to keep the photos in the original file: the 16:9 ration and the progressive zooming effect look beautiful, but at the same time to see the original ratio helps a lot to study the composition. Thanks a lot, for everything you do!
Thought I didn’t know his work until I remembered I saw The Italians exhibition for free in Paris last year. I was struck by the quality of the work but didn’t look further. Thank for all this information.
"My dream concept is that I have a camera and I am trying to photograph what essentially is invisible. And every once in a while I get a glimpse of it and I grab that picture". Leonard Nimoy It's difficult to tell a story in street photography without influencing the viewer with the story we want to tell and show. The tricky part is being able to isolate ourselves from the intention of telling a story from our perspective, and therefore, we end up not being able to represent what is really happening in our surroundings. Truthfully, I don't see a branch of photography capable of doing so, as ultimately, the photographer is influenced by its personal perception and ends up directing the observer.
Loved this episode... personal question for you- where are you from? Or, what is your native language? Haha I was listening to you trying to guess and I couldn't figure it out!
War / death shock jock pictures and good looks got him the initial fame and acceptance as the Clint Eastwood-like face of Magnum. He had talent of course, but so do hundreds of unknown or forgotten street snappers because they never got the warzone cover / good looks " connection " ;-) diplomatic father wealth and political influence huge breaks.
I actually didn’t take him as the Clint Eastwood like of Magnum, I see where you’re coming from and hopefully we get to cover some of those “lesser” known photographers like we have been doing from time to time, you’re most welcome to drop your suggestions!
@@TatianaHopper Thank you for commenting along with ur fine hosting!. I've just edited the comment btw. Wiki#d that his father was a privileged diplomat Connections and wealth plus talent and looks. Almost the perfect combination for "success". Look forward very much to a video you may make surrounding how most artists "get on"

Well done! Barbey is reminiscent of a Cartier-Bresson in color. His b&w work is quite dramatic, as well.
Thanks
