Thanks Diane! Great song by Stevie Wonder. I was amazed a couple of years ago to find out that there is no guitar in the song. It is Stevie Wonder playing the clavenet. In fact, Stevie Wonder is playing ALL the instruments except for the horns. That is talent, wow!
Stevie Wonder is a very normal, down-to-earth guy. MANY years ago (early 80's), a friend and I went out for a late night snack in Beverly Hills (I grew up there) after a night at a local dance club (we called them "discos" back then, and my friend was the DJ). There was a purple stretch limo double-parked out front, and in the large corner booth near the front door was Prince and his entourage, including "Chick" his huge bouncer. All with the "Look, but don't get near" attitude. While standing in line for a table, a few people behind me is Stevie Wonder and a friend of his. Standing in line with everyone else, waiting for a table. He ended up being seated literally right behind me, back to back against the back of the booth. Some fan came up and sheepishly asked him for an autograph, and not only did he sign it, but when the fan started walking away, he called him back and started talking to him for quite a while. When we left (we were done first), I saw his white and gold Rolls Royce parked in a meter half a block away. Whereas Prince wouldn't sign autographs or even allow fans to get near, and double-parked his big limo out front, Steve Wonder parked down the block and walked, waited on line like a normal human being, and then not just signed an autograph but was interested in talking to his fan. Classy guy, and I'll always remember the difference between the two of them.
Stevie Wonder has an incredibly long and storied career and body of work. Three of his albums in particular are absolutely essential for a deep dive: "Innervisions" (1973), "Fulfillingness' First Finale" (1974) and "Songs In The Key of Life" (1976). They are three of the most amazing albums ever made, and the fact that he wrote and recorded them all in succession within a four-year period is staggering.
Stevie Wonder is truly a music legend! I consider myself extremely lucky to have gone to the Forum in Los Angeles on May 13, 2011 to see Prince in concert and be blown away when Stevie Wonder guest performed with him! Since May 13 is Stevie Wonder's birthday, Prince lead everyone in the Forum in singing "Happy Birthday" for Stevie. Getting to hear and see Stevie Wonder perform "Superstition" live was amazing. Then, by some incredible good fortune years later, I actually got to meet Stevie Wonder in person at the Disneyland Hotel (where I used to work) and shook his hand! I have never been more starstruck in my life! 🤩🎼🎶🎵🎹
Lady Diane has a nice ring to it. Stevie Wonder was ubiquitous on the radio during the 70's and 80's - lots of great music, Jeff Beck is a guitar god, his songs don't typically have lyrics but are a great jam, such songs as Freeway Jam and Cause We've Ended as Lovers-written by Stevie Wonder, and his cover of the Beatles song A Day In The Life are a good listen. He recently passed in 2023 at 78
As you know Stevie wrote this for Jeff Beck after hearing Jeff fooling around on the drums, he was fooling around waiting for Stevie. Even though Jeff isn't a drummer Stevie liked the grove and say down to an electric piano and came up with his part. He told Jeff he would add lyrics and give it to him record. When he recorded it and sent the demo to Jeff. Stevie decided it was a big hit and ended up releasing it before Jeff did.
Actually, the late great Jeff Beck came up with the hook on guitar & played it for Stevie & wanted to collaborate but Stevie couldn't wait for an apre Po time & claimed writing credit,Jeff never held it against him & they performed it live together
Also no worries.....Jeff Beck was part of a power trio in the 70's with Tim Bogart and Carmine Appice...Beck, Bogart, and Appice. They did a cover of 'Superstition' that was OK....but they did a Japanese tour that indluded an live album - released only in Japan. I was stationed in Japan at the time (1974-75) and bought one and heard a FANTASTIC version of 'Superstition' on it.....
From the late 60s to the mid-70s Stevie Wonder had one of the greatest runs of musical brilliance ever. The word genius gets thrown around too often but he was one.
You are correct: That was the equivalent of asking, "Who's Elvis Presly." Just kidding. Jeff Beck was a prominent British rock guitarist who was so talented that Stevie Wonder went out of his way to get JB to play on some of Stevie's recordings. Great stuff. This song is the very definition of FUNK. Loved your reaction.

Great reaction, Diane, I've subscribed too. Songs from Stevie which I recommend are: "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)", "For Once in My Life", "Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday", "My Cherie Amour", "Higher Ground", "Living for the City", "Pastime Paradise", "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing", "You Are the Sunshine of My Life", "Boogie on Reggae Woman", "As", "Another Star", "Sir Duke", "I Wish", "Isn't She Lovely", "Master Blaster (Jammin')", "I Ain't Gonna Stand for It", "Do I Do", "Part-Time Lover". There are many more but these are great ones to continue with.
I remember him doing an anti-drunk driving ad sometime in the 80s. He was shown as a passenger in a car, saying that he'd drive himself before getting into a car with a drunk driver. That was after his car accident, so I'll assume that he knows what being in a crash is like.
Stevie actually never read music instead he felt it. He had a rare gift that was powerful. He simply understood music on deep level instead of just playing notes. No artist has had that ability since.
When cooking grits, a southern staple, they produce a distinct popping rhythm. Some of Stevie Wonder's music is based on that rhythm. This is one of those songs.
Being memorial day it's good to celebrate those that made the world peaceful and enjoyable to live in. Some good Food and BBQ is also a good way to celebrate the day.
Ahhhh, Stevie Wonder, classic 1970s Funk, a strong beat with an unpredictable rhythm with either percussions or strings. Lady Diane of Ardmore, has a nice ring. There is an town name Ardmore near Philadelphia
Absolutely love Stevie Wonder! ❤️ He has so many great songs, and many have been sampled over the years. I have 2 to suggest: Pastime Paradise, and Master Blaster (Jammin). Lady Diane does have a ring to it, but I feel that Editor Diane truly has the authority.
Stevie Wonder had access to something called the Tonto. It was not just a massive synth, it was a room! An expanding universe of sound, effects... Malcolm Cecil was the man behind it.
About two weeks ago I was working on writing an instrumental backing track for a rapper friend of mine. I couldn’t help but be inspired by this song to add a funky rocking clarinet part, and it turned out so well. Glad you enjoyed this fantastic track by Stevie Wonder!!
Well, I'll always remember him as Little Stevie Wonder when he was kid, but already a talented and seasoned performer. Well, Milady, thanks for this it was fun.
I believe Diane wins for the perfect video for this song. If I hadn't just seen it, I would demand a video of Diane dancing to this song as the official video.
Good pick, Lady Diane! This was Stevies first LP were he shrugged off the Motown hit machine and got his own band, wrote his own songs. His reward for the success of this LP/Single was a huge contract from Gordy, and it paid off big-time for the next 4 LP's. I was 14 when I saw Stevie play it on Sesame Street." 9:23 Beck was a bad-azz crossover guitarist, and was rated one of the top 10 GOATS in a Rollong Stone/Billboard poll last year. " Boogie On Reggae Woman" is one I think you'll love.
Favorite Stevie Wonder Album - "Songs in the key of life". Favorite song on that album - "Isn't she lovely". I'm sure you've heard that song Diane. Back in the day, I literally wore a vinyl album out and bought another copy.
Jeff Beck was a British rock guitarist who rose to prominence in the '60s with the group, "The Yardbirds," which also included Jimmy Page. Jeff Beck went on to form several other popular groups after "The Yardbirds" broke up and has a large catalog. Beck's collaborations with other artists generated some fantastic music. (Page, of course, went on to a little group they originally thought of calling "The New Yardbirds," but everybody said that name would go over "like a lead balloon." So they went with something different. 😉) Wonder has a genuinely *huge* discography, and has influnced other musicians for more than 50 years. Plus, clearly, chicks dig him. 😁
Awesome reaction to a legendary musician and one of Stevie's greatest tunes! Get down with your Lady self! Congrats on your well deserved title! Absolutely love your bubbly personality! I graduated from high school in '73. Have been binging your videos since finding you 4 days ago, give Chewie more treats! 😊
This was his first big hit on his own label. Lots of great songs both before when he was with Motown and billed as 'Little Stevie Wonder' (listen to his song 'Fingertips') as well as after.
For decades I did not know that Stevie Wonder went to school my blind cousin at Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing MI [my former home town]. As music major on trumpet l always oved the brass in this!!! y jazz band insrueotr in colege actually played on some of these Motown label records out of Detroit MI. Hemay haved played on this one, he was recognized jazz artist.
I met Stevie after a show he did at the NAMM show. When I say met it was about 5 seconds at a meet and greet. I still count it. If you ever want to meet music stars see if you can talk your way to the Namm show in California you want to go any day but the last when they open it up to the public when none of the famous musicians go. Stevie Ray Vaughn covered this song. I know you would like the music video. Course that was when MTV played videos.
Ok, Diane. Mow that you have entered the Stevie Wonder part of the music galaxy prepare your ears for a fantastic journey. IF YOU REALLY LOVE ME, HIGHER GROUND, YOU ARE THE SUNSHINE OF MY LIFE, ISN'T SHE LOVELY, & FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE, lay ahead to enhance your life with true beauty. Keep going and enjoy
Great song! Try "Midnight Train to Georgia" by Gladys Knight and the Pips. It's older, but people were a different breed then. They sang about life and it's experiences. Read lyrics sometimes, they will tell you a story that you or someone you know can relate to. People will speak their hearts in their music!
This is Motown, it's kind of a specific subgenre of Soul, Funky and Disco music blended together. Stevie Wonder was one of the faces of it. Motown was a label and promotion established in Detroit that brought R&B and Soul music and.black artists into the mainstream despite the segregation laws.
Yes, "Who's Jeff Beck" is not a question I ever thought I would hear. If you like guitar, look up anything by Jeff. He's one of the greats. Wired is probably his best album.
Hello, Lady Diane. I just thought of a second Stevie Wonder song from the mid-80's titled "Part Time Lover." It's one of the few songs that hit #1 on the pop, R&B, adult contemporary, dance and mainstream rock charts in BILLBOARD magazine. It was his final solo #1 hit.
Yes Diane, asking "who's Jeff Beck" is sorta like asking "who's Elvis"! But, don't worry, we all still love you and your video's! Beck was (passed a few years ago) one of the 1960's most famous guitar player's, he was right up there with Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page in popularity. Steve had a long career and lot's of Top 100 hit's starting in the early 1960's and well into the 1990's & 2000's. He was one of the first act's to use a Synclavier (early synthesizer) in the studio and on tour in the early 1970's One of my favorite Wonder songs is "Sir-Duke"! If you like Steve Wonder check out a guy named Herbie Hancock.

Stevie Wonder is a legend you must know.
Just Grand, Lady Diane! This song almost defines the term "Funkadelic". I'm not sure how you managed to stay seated, I hadda Get Up & Dance!
I wanted to! Not sure how to connect up cordless headphones to OBS though
Could have been a very abrupt end to the video 💃
Now that's a GREAT song! Little Stevie Wonder!
One of the funkiest tunes ever recorded ❤️. Right up there with Brick House by The Commodores.
It's OK to use present tense, he's still alive and doing music
That’s very interesting! I was super surprised to learn. He was a child prodigy. I don’t think that’s very well known. Certainly a gift.
@@DianeJennings I'm old enough to remember hearing "Little Stevie Wonder"
He ain’t dead, ya know.
the true meaning of soul i soo love stevie wonders soul and funk he just oooozes it....
Stevie such a wonder..ful musician and singer!!!
Haha I see what you did there
When cooking grits, a southern staple, they produce a distinct popping rhythm. Some of Stevie Wonder's music is based on that rhythm. This is one of those songs.
Being memorial day it's good to celebrate those that made the world peaceful and enjoyable to live in. Some good Food and BBQ is also a good way to celebrate the day.
I enjoyed learning with You today about Stevie Wonder and the song. You make the learning experience joyful.
Aww 🥰
@@DianeJennings It's true 🥰
"I Wish" is another great song from Stevie.
Added!
Enjoying Your Dancing to the music Your good at getting me to dance
Amazing that Stevie such an amazing drummer! Influenced so many people who might not know its him playing the drums!!
Chewy loves Stevie Wonder!
Well, I'll always remember him as Little Stevie Wonder when he was kid, but already a talented and seasoned performer. Well, Milady, thanks for this it was fun.
As a teen in the 70s, if you'd asked me what funk was I'd have played this ❤
I believe Diane wins for the perfect video for this song. If I hadn't just seen it, I would demand a video of Diane dancing to this song as the official video.
Friends gifted me with a bit of Scotland some years ago, but I do need to piece of Ireland....
We’re better! Shhh don’t tell wee Scottish lass 🤫 ☘️

Stevie played keys, synth bass, and drums on this track. In this era he was playing almost every instrument (including bass & guitar) on his songs.
And Jeff Beck (RIP) on guitar too! Check out Jeff Beck's I Ain't Superstitious featuring Rod Stewart on vocals.
Thanks for doing the background of the song and singers. It makes it so much more enjoyable to listen to. Good job
Living for the City is a great Stevie Wonder song
Wonder has a genuinely *huge* discography, and has influnced other musicians for more than 50 years.
Plus, clearly, chicks dig him. 😁
Stevie Wonder has great songs.
It seems so!
Thanks so much!! Oh I love to hear that. Thank you! Because, I do that all the time with other creators.
This was his first big hit on his own label. Lots of great songs both before when he was with Motown and billed as 'Little Stevie Wonder' (listen to his song 'Fingertips') as well as after.
I remember watching Stevie perform on TV in 1966, it was a dark time, because our TV was black and white. Give me Marvin Gaye anytime.
I do think all babies oughta get gifts at a baby shower to celebrate the beginning of life and the babies journey of life
For decades I did not know that Stevie Wonder went to school my blind cousin at Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing MI [my former home town].
IF YOU REALLY LOVE ME,
HIGHER GROUND,
YOU ARE THE SUNSHINE OF MY LIFE,
ISN'T SHE LOVELY,
& FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE,
lay ahead to enhance your life with true beauty.
Diane- great selection…..this is definitely an “old school” classic.
Hooray!! glad you enjoyed it Ted.
Thank you Lady Diane & Sir Chewie for the video on Stevie Wonder he really is a good artist
Our pleasure! We totally agree
@@DianeJennings enjoy the rest of your week
1st smash hit at 13: "Fingertips Part 2" 1963. Definitely worth your while.
The man does no wrong. He is a wonder.
He was one of the first act's to use a Synclavier (early synthesizer) in the studio and on tour in the early 1970's
One of my favorite Wonder songs is "Sir-Duke"!
If you like Steve Wonder check out a guy named Herbie Hancock.
Diane is groovin' it up!
