Regarding the shift knob, I’m on a mission to bring in one of these into my 3 Series Touring. This is actually the ONLY coupling of this shift knob with an AWD BMW - ANY of them.
This makes this a bit of a unicorn, and is the best control of any of the automatic transmissions available.
Why would someone want these in their cars?
Because from of its natural position, you have THREE immediate functions available with a single gesture (rather than one or two in the other automatic transmissions in any non-M car): upshift/downshift, change gearing aggression (which I use leading up to each and every stop sign / light, so that the engine can start downshifting and engine breaking its way to a slowdown), and best of all: drop into neutral at any speed, so that you can coast in between lights in a city, or let your foot off the brake when stopped at a light. Yes, in an automatic.
If you aren’t using all these 3 functions as part of your daily driving…. you don’t understand why all M cars have this incredible and unique shifter in the industry.

I agree about the transmission with no parking brake even though there is no dct. Makes me wonder why there is no remote start on the vehicle. I owned an f10 m5 and loved the comfort, performance and finish of the car, the omission of remote start doesn’t make sense in the auto transmission of the x5. Very similar platforms between the two vehicles, completely different transmissions. Come on bmw. Remote start is such a needed item here.
Is that blacked out grill and the blacked out lines around the grill something that is factory made?
Factory made.
What is the extra one should add to get the blacked out lines around the grill etc? "Shadow line?"
This is the Black Fire edition, so it came with it straight from the factory. You can probably consult your BMW dealership to find some aftermarket parts/grills that they can order and install for you. Check with independent shops too.
Canadian Auto Review My 2018 Long Beach Blue came from the factory with blacked out grill, blacked side gills, and black 21” wheels. 😊

We have a 2018 x5 m sport but this is better
Much better and much sportier. Less comfortable and pricier, however.

I can never understand why anyone would take a 100K luxury vehicle and try to make it sound like a 60K muscle car. If you want that stupid ass loud noise from an exhaust then buy a mustang GT. Some people really know how to take the value away from a car I swear to GOD!

Adam Parrish I have driven the X5M. It comes fine the way it is from the factory. That’s my opinion. If I spend 100k on any car it’s going to come the way I like it off the showroom floor. If I wanted a certain exhaust sound I would look for something different. Just my opinion.
I get it, but sometimes it is fun to make the exhaust farts is a soccer mom car and freak people out with how incredibly fast this thing is. I’ve surprised many 100k sport cars who thought they had pulled up next to a dad picking up the carpool!!!
