Yes. Do what Charlie says. Work hard! Consistently be committed to the cause. Finally at 18 months our pup is getting comments i never ever thought possible… what a well behaved pup! Electric shock collars for owners.....an interesting thought Charlie! Looking forward to the podcast on this 🙂 An interesting video. Probably something that most owners do, to a greater or lesser extent.
Tone matters, sometimes I force my dog to obey with pushing his bottom down or tugging his lead every time, but today what worked great for me was the tone of my voice. I'm slowly learning this type of dog 17month old English/German pointer with Brittany springer few generations ago too. His very emotive type of dog. So when I put a great emphasis, using emotion behind my tone, it works so good, he obeys. (sometimes overly loud which most normal humans would consider you a screw lose). But that's what gets this hound dogs attention, (high pitch whistle is great too) It's easy to become droning or monolog though and off he's gone, especially with the exercise this dog requires. Not every morning, day, night can I be hitting the right melody for him. LOL. Yesterday i watched a video of yours that said runn off from your dog. So last night I tried running off from him at the park every time he got embroiled in a sniff or went another way round some trees/bushes. Made him think I was going one way, then changed direction. It was fun XD my GF was laughing. He does love it when I jog, he gets pretty clingy actually. Haha Meanwhile I leave no stone unturned or any tools out of the box whilst guiding his path. I'm using everything I can.

Gosh these video’s are just so good and so funny, it made me cringe and laugh at the sit sit sit sit my husband and I say this to our 6 month lab, we’ve started already with your training gosh results, and our dog is listening, great video me and my husband can stop arguments now on how many commands we give ,we’re finally getting the training we need🤪🤪😱😱😱😓😓😓😬😬😬🫣🫣🫣
This is so true! I catch myself once in a while doing the same and it doesn’t work. One of the most illogical things to me is people just calling the name of their dogs when they’re naughty, want them to come or simply get their attention. Somehow some are still surprised the dog ignores them completely 😅. Be clear what you want from them.
So I was out yesterday, after a wkend of nights and my hounds didn't get out, my pack is a 17yr old Jack Russel 13yr old e.s.s, a 6yr old cocker and a 19wk e.s.s!! And they needed free time, 30mins in2 crazy run time they all rained back2 me for drill time, follow ur advice I've got happy dogs and can't wait for my youngest put2 join me on shooting trips
I've trained my dogs for bird hunting for years. I've had a rescued lab with unknown pedigree and I've had a lab I've spent $$$$ on from a repected breeder. The bred pup was soo much more biddable and concentrated. Loved them both and hunted both but the road was much easier with the pedigreed puppy. Spend the money
Absolutely fantastic advice and I've heard it many time from a few online trainers. My cocker pup is going to be picked up in a couple of weeks, so I can't wait to start implementing your basic training
My granddaughter only says one thing to her border collie, and he does it , I was shocked one day when he was covered in mud off his walk , she didn't even look at him and said bath time and he went to the bathroom and jumped in the bath and waited for her to come wash him down , she never has to tell him twice . And now after watching this I will stop telling mine over and over,
My 5 month old puppy knows what I’m asking of him when I ask him to … sit, stay, wait, down and heel yet I find sit the hardest one to reinforce. When I try to push his bottom down if he doesn’t do it first time, he turns and tries to playfully bite my hand as if it’s a game! What should I do about this? It’s annoying.
@@nzgoldie Will do. I use a slip lead to train him to walk to heel, so will incorporate more ‘sits’ when we are out and about and he’s on lead. Hopefully, that will reinforce the sit elsewhere, when he’s off lead. Thank you.

I couldn't agree more. How much volume does a dog truly need from you? Would a normal tone of voice be better than more volume all the time?

Work at it while he’s on lead. Hold the lead in such a way that he can’t reach around to your hand.
Agree. I’ve found a gentle upward pop tug on a slip lead more effective than pushing down on a wriggly springer spaniel
