    I really want to thank you for your devotion and talent putting out these vids. I'm not a musician, but have enjoyed electronic music since the 1970's. I built my own synthesizer in 1976--a Paia 2600--a prehistoric modular synth that came in kit form. I am now in my 60's and enjoy the amazing resurgence in electronic music. Younger folks are such an inspiration and great guys like you have helped rekindle my love for these instruments and the music made.

      or a series of demo's really exploring the capabilities (Maybe a Behringer sponsorship opportunity for Nick?) - this sounds great but the effort required to get to grips with the complexity (or spending a week reading the manual) is somewhat daunting - it makes programming my DX7 look like a breeze ;-)

    • @TheRealSasquatch
      @TheRealSasquatch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      IzoTope sponsor the livestream so I guess it's possible. I would say, from what I have seen, this synth is very capable and i'm very tempted to order one. I think everyone who watches Sonicstate knows Nick isn't going to hold back on criticism (as he did with this vid) - He appears to be impressed with the Deepmind - and whilst it cant be everything to everyone, it does appear to be a bit of a gamechanger in terms of pricing/capabilities. I would happily watch a Behringer sponsored Sonicstate demo series (and a Markus Fuller teardown:) knowing it was sponsored.

    Great review. It inspired me to purchase the Deepmind 12. I arrived yesterday. I'm a bass player and will be using this for composing. I got fed up with menu-driven-mouse-ckicking-creativity-destroying software plugins and midi controllers, so I went with the DeepMind. I'm not a synth snob. It sounds gorgeous to my ears right out of the box. I'm sure it will inspire many future compositions. Also, as a bass player using this to compose, having the ability to quickly assigning whatever chords I want to single keys is invaluable.

    I find it interesting when people complain a synth, "should be X". They complained about the Minilogue that way too. It simply is what it is. Take it or leave it. Seems like the DeepMind12 is an amazing first stab from Behringer of all companies. From this demo at least, it seems utterly unique.

    I love Behringer for this, finally someone who listens to what people want and make it affordable also, this is the easiest synth purchase I will ever make. Thank you Behringer and keep it up, I can honestly say I haven't had much love for many of your products in the past but this seems like a step in a new exciting direction for Behringer and what a first analog synth you have made, just wow! Not saying other brands sound bad but they are expensive and in some ways they don't bring that old classic sound to the table at all even if their pricetag is steep. This sound gritty, dirty and shitty at times and I looooove that! That is what I am looking for in a synth, not some clinical harsh or stiff filter, it should be wild, raw and dirty.
    Congratulations Behringer, I bet you are really proud of this synth and I am a very happy future customer, you have a buyer with me no doubt! It will be such a pleasure to unpack this baby and actually see a Behringer logo on it, finally Behringer will be a german company that will go down in history with synths also, I see a future classic here without a doubt that will be used on so many tracks and will probably have a signature sound like an SH-101 or TB-303 and will be a a go to synth for certain styles. I am very excited about this synth, I was actually looking at the Modal synths for a while but their prices are just insane. They are greats synths but when you realise you get like 4-5 of these behringers if not more for the same price as a Modal 008 or 002 it gets a bit off-putting.
    Thank you for the review Nick, beautiful as usual.

      sv-1 (my bandmate has one) will cover a LOT of the good-old bases sonically - the rhodes and mellotron alone are worth the price. but the sv-1 won't help you learn nor apply diddly about synthesis.
      of course, the answer is "both" ;-)

    Do you think you'll add this synthesizer to your setup Nick? The patch at around 27:35 sounds to me like some of the type of stuff in your live performance videos.

    A great review as always. Most questions answered... Thanks!
    Seems like a very nice synth, even with the menu diving. But i'm used to a CZ1, Poly 800 and Sequential MultiTrak and the DeepMind12 has more hand on controls than those. It has a crazy amount routing possibilities... Me liking :)
    Waiting for a review part two..... ;)

    27:30 Wow! This thing seems amazing, especially at the price. Isn't it bridging the gap between a Juno and Alpha Juno? Perhaps bridging gaps between many bits of kit. Definitely want one when i can make some space for it.

    • @TheJonHolstein

      Some FX parameters can be modulated in the Mod Matrix, so they can be somewhat integrated to the patch, so if you can't have it like that, it would not come as a surprice

    The Deepmind demos now on you tube, mixed with this review are selling me on this synth. It has the effects section that reminds me of the Ultranova but it has the warmth of a Juno. It has 49 keys which is just enough but not greedy, same thing with the 12 voices. The menu and sliders on the front are what sells me on it though. It's tweekable while you play but deep when you want to delve in. I better start saving up.

      Since it seems like Berhinger wont have the mass produced version before it hits the stores, Nick might have to send the units back so other reviewers can do reviews before it is released.
      Nick probably have some other gear that also needs to be returned.

    • @benanderson89

    • @sonicstate
      @sonicstate  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because you have the option, you dont have to let it zero out.

    • @andreilemieux9525
      @andreilemieux9525 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      are there any cases where this is useful? can zeroing out add to a sound? i suppose it'd be a cool way to make a gate effect. il have to try that out in my DAW. i know that reason's Thor has a zero pwm. thanks man

    • @peterkadarmusic9728
      @peterkadarmusic9728 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you sync the pwm to an LFO, and can go through zero, you can use it as a rhythmic component.
      If you can modulate one waveform with the other (eg. FM), you can also get cool rhythmic effects even if the osc itself is not going through the mixer.

    • @peterkadarmusic9728
      @peterkadarmusic9728 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Prophet 6 and OB-6 can do some really cool things with through zero PWM, especially in conjunction with X-mod.

      But midi latency should not really be a problem on an editor.

    • @TheJonHolstein

    • @InXLsisDeo
      @InXLsisDeo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jon Holstein Very simple: he was a synths seller (he worked for Yamaha and I suspect for other manufactureres as well), and that's basically what he does in his videos, he demonstrates the synths. You'll notice he is always super enthusiastic and never says anything negative about the products. So these are less reviews than product demonstrations, much like what you would get in fairs. Nevertheless, he is a synth expert if there is one, he is super entertaining to watch and he gives a good idea of the possibilitites of the products.

    • @TheJonHolstein
      @TheJonHolstein 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably the demonstrator approach, with too much entusiasic talk inbetween the playng. I don't mind when someone is entusiastic, but usually the ordinary entusiastic player would not interrupt the playing as much as he do. Or well, some hip-hop/beat producers do, but they are usually not as good at the playing/using the products, so those demos tend not to like for that reason.
      To be honest, Nick isn't the most critical person either. And most synth-reviews tend not to be so critical.
      I just hope it doesn't have to do with keeping a good relationship with sponsors, or in hope of getting free products.
      Marc Doty probably mostly do his videos on stuff he already like, so they arent really reviews, in that sense.
